I actually don't know if the PC version works offline or not. I have DSL so my PC is usually online all the time. I didn't think to try running Missing Link in offline mode and I uninstalled it once I finished it so I don't know if offline mode works for it or has been disabled. It just surprised me for a single-player DLC to require internet connection on 360 since I assume that consoles are less likely to have stable internet connections compared to PC's.Calrabjohns said:Sorry about cutting out, Ward. I was tired. Hearing from you that The Missing Link works offline for PC is confusing to me.
Yeah, that's pretty much it.Calrabjohns said:They're not in it for long term sustainability, like bankers they're in it for short term profit, that's why AAA development has become so expensive, they're taking massive risks in the hopes of landing a Skyrim or Diablo payday, instead of trying to please their customer base or maintain an output of quality realistically budgeted releases.
I have the Steam version of Missing Link, I run Steam offline almost permanently, and I had no problems. If it's bypassing Steam and using it's own checking (the way that TW2 did for a while), I might not have noticed. But it definitely works with Steam offline.WardDragon said:I actually don't know if the PC version works offline or not. I have DSL so my PC is usually online all the time. Keep that in mind when you hear statements from developers and console manufacturers about the public's apparently secret love for always-connected devices. Their "read" on the market is nothing more than them signalling a desire to put the customers' desires dead last.
Well, (formerly, haha) EA’s Creative Director Adam Orth would’ve told you togaurdian said:Having a steady internet connection is expensive in some countries.

Screenshot taken about 2-and-a-half hours ago. Since then, it's downloaded just under 900MB. Nothing else was running on the network, this is as fast as it gets.
Oh, and it's the fastest connection available where I live.
(Edited for inability to read the clock correctly)
He was working in Microsoft. Not in EA. Get your facts straight!Demut said:

No, I don't think he stepped down - the terse MS comment gave the impression he was pushed. I don't think MS cared about him living in cloud cuckoo land regarding "always online", but they did care about him talking about something that hasn't been officially made public yet.slimgrin said:Damn, Orth stepped down?I'm trying really hard to feel sorry for him...Still trying.
sorry I dnt have the camera to show the result....sorry />dragonbird said:@RSIK4 - Yup. Not unusual for many parts of the world. And the 4GB download that I started 7 hours ago is still saying 2 hours to go, because I needed to browse, which means my Steam download speed has dropped to around 30KB/S.
So how much of my precious bandwidth would an "always on" game vendor, or MS's new Xbox, think it appropriate to useto collect datato enhance my customer experience?

I'm pretty sure that no gaming company will hire him. He would bring too much bad marketing to company. It would be like hiring Kim Jong-un.dragonbird said:(And regarding Demut getting the company wrong/>/>/>/> )
