Always running

Hey,Just got The Witcher EE & playing for the first time. Looks great thus far. Quick question; can you toggle run/walk anywhere? I find the constant running kinda annoying! Thanks

http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=6639.0;)If You use one of "only mouse" cameras, You just need to click near to Geralt (or hold and click). For third type of view, look at the link I gave.

Hello to the forum! :wave:I am a newbie ::)... brand new to 'The Witcher'... I just purchased the Enhanced Edition yesterday and have played it about one hour.I am coming off playing 'Oblivion' for most of last year [with a lot of added quests and mods] and also just the last few months with 'Fallout 3'. I am one of those people who takes their time and really enjoys the experience of the game, although Fallout 3 was a real challenge in that it was unstable. Now, my question : Why does Geralt always have to 'run'. Can't this guy walk and enjoy the world a bit? I don't like for my playable character to run unless I want them to. Is there a way to change this behaviour? Thanks! Private Partes

Thanks for reply.I have looked throughout the manual and cannot find a 'key' to toggle between 'run' and 'walk', etc. Is there supposed to be such a 'key'? If so, it is not in the documentation that I can see...Private Partes

No, there's no such key. Geralt runs everywhere in the unmodded game.

Thanks! I thought as much. This is the first RPG I have played that did not have walk/run. I just like to sometimes take my time and walk through the gameworld, especially one as well done as this one is.PP

There IS a mod that allows the player to walk, but I have no idea how well it works, since I've never used it. The game has been updated since the mod was released, so even if it worked perfectly when it was released, it could have problems now.If you try it, back up your game first: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=18665.msg412636

If not, I imagine we can all throw ourselves upon the mercy of J_Slash and Flash again. ;)

Well! I am impressed. A really professional forum community! AND Helpful too!Really and truly, thanks to all for helping. . . I downloaded and installed Flash's mod into my 'Enhanced Edition' and it works great! My god! ...I can WALK .... It's a miracle !! . Now all I have to do is get up when I fall down ... which happens a LOT! :teeth:I had a bit of an install problem but I posted a Q to the IFRIT site and they replied quickly with the answer. As an IT/software Project Manager I know quality software and what it takes to create it. I can see a lot of fast food, beer and pizzas went into 'The Witcher'!!! ;D Best Regards from Atlanta, Georgia USAPrivate Partes

I just want an honest answer from the developers. Why did they go to all this bother to release EE, yet they chose not to add "walking". It is one of the stupidest design decisions I have ever seen. It also makes them look amateurish since "walking" is available from mods. I just want an answer please, nothing more, nothing less.

Wow... that's a hefty demand from a Child of Fate... ;DYour first post and you haven't even introduced yourself. Anyways, welcome to the Community :beer:If you want a developers answer, learn to wait. Meanwhile, I think that the game was strictly on deadline and the option was available for other camera modes so it wasn't that big of a deal. Anyways, we got what we want because of our dedicated community members, whom we greatly thank. Plus, updates are always bettering an already dynastic game... so chill out, ok? :peace:

I didn't mean to be rude by not introducing myself, sorry. About my "child of fate" status I assume you were joking.

It's not properly available in other camera modes. Using the mouse to initiate walking and holding it down is really not the best of methods. By doing so it restricts free use the camera.

It's not enough. Walking with a mod, though helfpul, has not taken into account traveling speed. Geralt walks too slow. Besides, walking should be a toggle option, not a pressing the button all the time option. Either way, many thanks to the modders but that is not the answer. The deadline "argument" is also not a good one. Adding a walking option is very easy, as modders proved, and they could have easily introduced it in one of the patches. I just want an honest answer why they didn't. I know I won't get it because there is no logical answer. For a game that strives so much in creating atmosphere, such omission is just stupid. Great game though.

@ TalkShowHostYes the mod has work to be done... but it would have to suffice for now.Free use of the camera is not as important apart from OTS mode, so no-one complains.I agree walking should be toggled, maybe in The Witcher 2? Anyway, stick around and you may learn something new.BTW, the community is hospitable so don't hesitate to ask if there is a problem, just don't demand the impossible... :peace:
