There *may* be an italian version of *some* of the Witcher short stories, but I am not aware of any. As far as I know the stories and novels have been translated into Czech, German, Russian, Lithuanian, French (short stories only so far), Portugese and Spanish only. They are in the (very long) process of being translated into English now, but The Last Wish is available and Blood of Elves is (supposedly) due in September. BTW I am still waiting for the french edition (Le Sang des Elfes) which was due out a month ago now! :'(Check out the Native Zone to chat with other Italian Witcher fans in The Witcher Italia thread :)and finally, but not least importantly, welcome! :)

Thanks Blizari z Rivii ! that's very generous of you! :) ... but unless you can motivate the french publisher of the book to respect their own deadline, i fear there isn't very much you could do :( ... i'll just have to be patient, maybe i should start taking bets on which of my editions of the same book will arrive first ? ;D will it be the french edition (advertised as available this past June -- a good 5 weeks ago now!) ? or the english edition (allegedly due in September) ?i'll keep you posted :)

I`d kind of agree that only 2.5 books from the main story are nice (apart from two earlier with shorties, which are very good), in the end of 3, then up to half of 5 it`s kinda different way of telling the story. I didn`t like the focus that was put onto Ciri voyages, and ***** HUGE spoiler edited out of original post ******. But of course, everything of the witcher theme is worth reading.

No translations didn't replace orignal language of this books-lot of Old Polish words (sometimes very funny) . So you must learn polish to good understand climate witcher's world ;]

I believe you when you say that the existing translations leave something to be desired, but i am not convinced that a truly gifted translator could not do a great job and convey all the meaning of the original Polish. It's very true that this has yet to happen, but i refuse to give up hope. :)I may well (attempt to) learn Polish for a personal challenge and if i succeed, i'll certainly check out the original text :peace:

Got my hands on "The Last Wish" and read it from cover to cover in no time flat...devoured it actually...left it for a while then came back and read more slowly and enjoyed it just as much as the first time...am awaiting Blood of the Elves which is released here after the 15th Oct..can't wait. Have played the game twice and was going to download but I see that my cap will be used up big time, so opted to buy..and I see it's quite a Witcher Month for me as game arrives at my local store this Friday 10th..sigh..I shall be busy indeed.Have been reading up on the forum when I can, but I am wondering if there's any indication of how Tall Geralt is...get a sense of about 5'10" if one looks to the game, though this would be notoriously imprecise...Does Sapkowski ever suggest or hint at this?Any indication that his 'Last Wish' caused him to begin to lose touch with his witcher abilities, as indicated by Nenneke's attempted treatment of him in the book?

I dont agree with this statement. There is one reason behind it:One will not learn archaisms and difficult words in a small amount of time - it takes years to learn specific phrases.Words such as "onegdaj", "chrobry", "nuże", "nynie", maybe even similar in English "kazuistyczne", or simply "krotochwila" are just too difficult. What's more i wouldnt be suprised if even polish readers dont know them all (IMO Poles can better guess the proper meaning from sentence's context). It's just like reading Romeo and Juliet in English (i think it may be some kind of comparison ;)) - you may know English, but you must guess what some words mean.Of course - there are things that should be easier to understand for UK readers. Almost all story is about Celtic's legends. Hardly none of my friends found many of the similarities and im sure I haven't found even the half of it. Only a few things are from Slavic mythology, few from Nordic myths. And i think all words and phrases have equivalent words and phrases in another language. They dont mean exactly the same, but there is very similar meaning behind them. So if the translator is PRO there is big chance that story's "climate" will be proper even in languages other than polish. What is more, if all story are hard to understand at all (yes, The Witcher is one of the hardest story I've read and i read at least 15 books a month) there is no point to make even harder understanding it (by learning some really unknown language ;))
