Why?

If they don't publish it in English the good folks here will just translate it for us :3

The good folks here have been extremely nice to us, as well as amazingly hard-working ... but I don't think it's fair to expect them to translate stuff for us forever.

I know you were joking, but in a forum where English is so many people's second language, I thought I'd be clear, anyway. We don't want our valiant translators to think we're taking them for granted!

Anyway, It makes sense. I also like to know more about Vesemir youth or learn something more about places like Zerrikania.

The world of TW has a lot of room for parallel stories and prequels.
A lot harder would be to continue the Geralt's story without spoiling it.

Editorial director at Gollancz told me few days ago, they will publish in December. Times of Contempt that is.

I'm a lil skeptic about this news. It's not the first I see and old good product revamped in a worst way ever... such as --->Lucas' Star Wars
I hope this just my own fear.

Please, can someone make clear what is confirmed and what is not? I mean, it's 100% sure gonna be a new Witcher's universe book, and the theme is unknown, or it's the book itself just a rumour?

Sapkowski have indeed said it, that he it writing the new Witcher book, that it should be out in a year or two. But it was just one, off-hand sentence, at the very end of the interiev. The interviewers seemd to be too supprised, by his answer, to push on it. Interview finished just after he stated that.

Lucas enjoys taking his audience for granted and thumbing his nose at them. Thus he deliberately insults them with the continued presence and gratuitous insertion of the Gungans, for example. He's rich enough to get away with it, too.

I figure Sapkowski is neither so rude, nor so unprofessional, nor so independently wealthy that he would be tempted to debase his work that way.

He is actually kinda poor (for a person that sold so many books) because he lost a lot after divorce.

He is very professional - when he write book he check all minor facts in books. Facts like "what sounds make this bird", "does this animal live in places like that" etc.

But he is kinda rude. Definitely harsh person. He humiliated many fans and journalists that asked him a question that he considered as stupid.

Well, there's the kind of rude person who does not suffer fools gladly, and the kind of rude person who goes out of his way to make the fico at them. Many artists are the former, but the latter are rare among those who must earn their bread from their art :)

Anyway, I have no feeling for the sense of the original statement in Polish, but the English translation sounds more like a speculation than a confirmation.

And in any event, the English-language publishing trade is now such a gaggle of cowards who will do nothing lest they do anything wrong (and lose their jobs), that it may be years before we see it in English.

Most geniuses do. Tim Burton is rumored to be a freak as well and I've knowed myself a bunch of talented and rude artists at the same time LOL
Btw, fans sometimes are annoying, it's a fact. And sometimes make stupid questions...so.. maybe that day wasn't his very best and he burst out :)

@Guy N'wah
I know what you mean, it's that I don't believe in re bumping an old subject. Unless he is planning a sort of spin off (about Ciri, Eskel, Triss.. whoever) Geralt died in Rivia and that is the place where he is supposed to be. Unless Sapkowsky's story will be related to CDP games... just guessing. I've seen too many time a hero ressurecting from the grave, but the story was never convincing.

Well, better stay positive. Sapkowsky is still a great writer, so he may surprize me eventually :)

I agree. I don't think it's likely that the book would relate to the games. Sapkowsky doesn't consider the games to be canon so Geralt is dead. I think a future book is more likely to either be a prequel, or focus on different characters besides Geralt.

Where I live, April's fool (or its Fools April) is not in April! Is the 28th of december, and its name is "El dia de los inocentes" (Fool's day or Naive's day).
I wonder if poland has a different date for this ...
Last interview I read, I get the impression Sapkowsky don't want to write about witchers any more.

That's certainly the impression he's given in the past, but he's allowed to change his mind. :)

I'm a fan of a writer named Robin McKinley, and lots of fans asked for a sequel to her book Sunshine. She replied, "If Sunshine shows up in my head again and talks to me some more, I'd be glad to write another book about her, but she's been quiet so far."

Different writers have different creative processes, of course. But for a lot of writers, they don't so much WANT to write as HAVE to write, and what they write about depends on which characters talk to them (mentally, of course. :D )

I really hopes you are right.

But in general, when an author kills as many characters as Sapkowski does in its last witcher's book, that means "this is thy en my friend".
