I would love more short-stories books like The Last Wish and The Sword of Destiny. They are my favorites besides Baptism of Fire. I wouldn't even mind if Geralt didn't show up.

Here's hoping that he wasn't just being facetious. Still, given how long we've waited on official translations of the books already written, it would probably take a decade or more before we would see it in English, even if true.

Thankfully, we have our wonderful community fan translations to tide us over:

I agree :) I haven't gotten far with the novels yet, but I do really enjoy the short stories and it would be great to have more of them.

@Corylea and JJavier
Agree with you both. I have the impression that Sapkowski is allured by the success of the game series (this should be gratifying to CDP :) ).

Anyway, sometimes it happens to me like McKinley said, the creative process has its own wierdie way.

@Ward Dragon
Ah yes, you may be right. I didn't think to a prequel, but it might be in fact :)

Oh wait... it's Star wars flop shadow

^This absolutly. I've loved deeply The Sword of Destiny and I think Sapkowski gives his very best in short stories.
More likely Stephen King did in the beginning... but now it's totally trashy

Sapkowski considers a resumption of the Geralt Saga? :woot: Some time ago I read sth like that in a forum or so, at least nothing official. Seems to be true

I know what you mean, it's that I don't believe in re bumping an old subject. Unless he is planning a sort of spin off (about Ciri, Eskel, Triss.. whoever) Geralt died in Rivia and that is the place where he is supposed to be. Unless Sapkowsky's story will be related to CDP games... just guessing. I've seen too many time a hero ressurecting from the grave, but the story was never convincing.

That would be fantastic when Sapkowski continues the CDPR's story or at least refers to the events.
If he really wants to write an other novel / short story volume an other ressurecting has to be very exceptional because CDPR already took this idea and if the author uses the same idea it looks a bit ... uninspired
And a continuation only about Eskel and Lambert isn't a proper Witcher (Geralt) sequel for me

A decade? Sad but true. I really don't understand what impedes the English translations whereas in other countries the translations went smoothly.
We have such a great publishing house in my country. All Witcher books are translated and in March this year we will have "Something ends, something begins" in German too

I wish he would write a fantastic Witcher book that would work in tandem with games and did not contradict them in any way...one can dream :).

Sorry, I didn't mean it like that :p I was thinking that it might be a completely unrelated story (or collection of short stories) which takes place before the novels but isn't connected to them.

The Star Wars prequels were indeed terrible, and I think a large part of the reason was due to the end already being written before the movies even started production. There wasn't really any creative freedom. It was already predetermined how things had to turn out, so there wasn't any room to take the story in a different direction if it started to evolve on its own. A lot of the events in the movies seemed kind of contrived, like they didn't really know how to get where they were supposed to be so they just fudged it and hoped the audience wouldn't analyze it too closely.

But back to the Witcher, even if a new book takes place earlier in the timeline, it could have a self-contained story and not necessarily lead up to any of the events that we've already seen. Therefore it could still be fresh, new and interesting :)

This sounds perfect.
I remember in the 2nd short story volume in one of the "Voice of reason" narrations... When his education / Trial of the grasses was finished Geralt left Kaer Morhen and was convinced everybody welcomes a Witcher's help.
The first encounter was a disappointment. He met a farmer who was with his daughter on the way to *I don't remember*. They were attacked by bandits who raped the young girl and forced the father to watch this. Geralt was upset and slaughtered the entire gang. There was blood everywhere, even the Witcher was covered with blood. Then he helped the girl to get up from the ground. When she saw the blood-soaked Witcher she screamed horribly and ran away. He freed the pinioned father who got very angry and yelled Geralt has scarred his daughter to death. He grabbed his odds and ends and left.
Adventures like that which makes the young Witcher change his mind... Witchers are considered as bastards, uncanny non-humans and they are only welcomed when they free poeple from ugly monsters. A job they don't want to do because they are afraid and they don't want to get dirty (Zeugl). When it's done they chase the Witcher away sometimes without payment.

I think this has lots of potential for a novel

It would be nice to have more witcher books and I would like if Mr. Saplowski doesn't contradict or invalidates the videogames by CDPR.

I'm lucky that all witcher books are published in my country...... not only that, they've been published by 2 different houses at the same time, Bibliopolis and Alamunt, the former has a worse quality paper and uglier covers.... Alamunt's have a different character per cover, I bought the first 2 by Bibliopolis before I learnt about the other, so I missed the covers with Geralt and Yennefer. Unfortunately I don't like the translation very much..... and both editions share it. :(

What if Sapkowski decides to continue the story of Ciri in the Arthurian legend? Would you still read it?

But then the title "Witcher" novel isn't meeting. Okay, Ciri had a Witcher's education except the trial of the grasses but did she become a Witcher(-ress?)?.

But apart from that, yes I would read it because I'm curious to know how her life is going on.

No she didn't, the same way she didn't become a sorceress either. That said, I would totally read that Arturian book.

Google Translator:

It will be the new "The Witcher"! Everything about Andrzej Sapkowski and the saga of Geralt

"All I can say is that this is a novel, not a short story collection, and that its shares will be held in the realities of the world Witcher" - revealed Miroslaw Kowalski, editor of publications Supernova that publish next Sapkowski's book in Poland.

Kowalski also argues that "there will be no sequel nor a prequel, as indeed Sapkowski has repeatedly publicly stressed only thing absolutely separate."

What exactly does the expression, it will be a "thing absolutely separate"?

Interesting news. Thanks for posting it :)

I'm quite happy to hear that. A short story collection would have been cool, but I also like the idea of another novel that takes place in the Witcher world but isn't directly connected to any of the previous stories.

The best news of 2012 (apart from SOPA being dropped) so far. I don't care if it's prequel, sequel or a separate story - canon is canon and I am perfectly capable of separating RED's version from it and enjoy both, though the canon one more. I just hope Sapkowski will focus on characters he already introduced, as they are not only extremely interesting and memorable, but also worth having their background story revealed. Dijkstra, I am speaking about you. I would also love to read even one chapter dedicated to history and culture of his world, just like he wrote about Redania and Kovir in the fourth book.

I would love to read more about Ciri, she's by far my favorite witcher character.

But if the new book is going to be "absolutely separate" from the saga, then I'm afraid Ciri is unlikely to appear. Nor is Geralt or Yennefer or Vesemir or any of our favorites.
