Announcing Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

+
The way I see it, Content Update 1.7 could be dropping between April and June. Giving them enough time to gather reports and squash bugs for a major bugfix patch that will drop with the expansion later, to ensure it's a smooth and stable experience.

Because releasing both a massive overhaul content update along with an expansion at the same time would be a nightmare in terms of stability and troubleshooting. Which is why my only hope is that the launch goes smoothly and its reception turns out positive.

So I'm happy whenever it releases and am glad they're taking their time with it. Just hope everything goes well because the game deserves it.

uhm well "in June we’ll start to share more information" doesnt sound like it will drop at that time... objectively its just a call to break the radiosilence but actually nothing more. people should not think that its close to come just because of this one sentence. : /

Yes, but I get the feeling they'll also reveal the release date/price of expansion.

It doesn't. That was my expectation before they made this announcement. I did expect to play it earlier than June as well.
Two teaser trailers did enough of marketing to convince me to get it, now the only thing that I'm looking for is a release date.

my take on it... they will drop PL at the end of the year at the same date CP was released 3 years ago - 10th of december. closing the games-lifecycle just as it is. would be glad if it would be earlier but wont get my hopes up for it like at launch ^^

im also curious if we get any more hints for the unsolved mystery... or if it just stays unsolved for years like Mt.Chilliad in GTAO to keep the hype and interesst for the last hardcore fans after the DLC dropped and the game is going to end in support/progression.

Imagine if they go full poetry mode and announce the release date to be August 20, 2023.

How wonderfully poetic it would be for the expansion to drop on the very day that Arasaka got nuked and Johnny died, the very reason of CP2077's whole story :D

I know they said marketing starts in June, but imagine if it came out in June? I'm sure internally they've got a release date in mind.

My guess would be they have two or three release dates in mind, but development isn't finalized yet. They'll probably make their release date decision in late May based on where the game is at and then slap the date on whatever marketing stuff they have put together.

So, my bold assumption is that they have a Night City Wire, and surprise! Phantom Liberty comes out in a week or so. Or even after the stream. I think a lot of the marketing is coming post launch, like word of mouth type stuff. I think they'll also put out a physical disc package that comes with the dlc, and or digital store fronts. Though giving the context of starting in June, it does sound like release is still far off.

That would also give then plenty of time to market after the June event. Eh, fuck it why not. It's right before Starfield comes out, and they can be 'lore friendly' with it too. Like, similar to N7 Day or whatever.

Personally I think mid-July to late August is a decent time frame.
I do as well. I mentioned Baldur's Gate because it's the only show in town around then, but it's also a show for a small audience. Lies of P looks quite intriguing, but it's an unknown quantity for the public at large.
Don't get me wrong, BG3 is a game I'm looking forward to so much. Been looking forward to it for decades in fact since I played BG2 when it came out in 2000. If I leave my own bias out of it though, I don't think BG3 is such a huge release.
Same, it's been a long time but I'm pleased with what I've seen. I think the more hardcore TTRPG folks are locked in on that, but I'm not sure how many of them would come back to Night City even if another option weren't around. It's not a huge deal for people who aren't into this sort of thing. As an aside; I really wish Bloodlines weren't in development hell...

I can see CDPR seeing that 1/1.5 month window as an opportunity. If it's not, then, I doubt it'll be before October.
Agreed. We'll know soon enough. It's cost them an arm and a leg from the information they've provided so the campaign will be something remarkable for an expansion at least.
