What distributors and retailers get around to displaying is not something they can control.

To those complaining about the extra content for Xbox One: I understand that it is somewhat disappointing that CDPRED is giving exclusive content. However, I must say that I am disappointed with the response of fans of the Witcher series. I was under the impression that these games were being developed for adults, but all I hear is a bunch of crying children. There is no excuse for cancelling your pre-order just to spite CDPRED, even if you do feel that you are being treated unfairly. Here are is why:
1. Microsoft has done the most marketing for the Witcher 3. While I don't think that this means that CDPRED owes them anything, I do understand the reasoning behind it.
2. IT IS A DECK OF CARDS AND A CLOTH VERSION OF A MAP YOU BE RECEIVING ANYWAY. I would expect that a fanbase made up of adults would be able to get over missing out on two items that are not in any way relevant to the product they are purchasing.
3. If you have read anything about the Witcher 3, you should know that Xbox is already getting the short end of the stick graphics-wise because, well, it's Xbox. So I only think its fair that those who have the inferior game-machine get an extra toy to make them feel better about themselves.

Stop lumping all witcher fans together. I couldn't care less about few items coming in ce. If it was some exclusive content in game, this would be entirely different issue. I am just surprised that they are choosing xbone platform to get some extra stuff when most sales will come from pc.

Don't know about other people, but personally, it's about the principle. CDPR said "No exlusive content for anyone". CDPR then went "NOPE, JK, LOLZ".
In other words, trust I had, is wavering.
"We are the rebels!" CDPR? Not really, huh?

In the end all, preorders are NEVER a good idea. I wish people stopped doing them.

As others have highlighted already, examining the text of the now infamous interview partially mis-quoted above and concluding that any lies (knowing or unknowing) were told therein is making a subjective decision since anyone reading it objectively - without personal bias - couldn't get the same impression.

None of the clear declarative statements have been broken and the remaining linguistic brawl hinges on each individuals interpretation of just one word. A semantically confused word here applied as a classifier without any hint of a modifier to help define some limits on membership - "gamers".

Exactly how many of those classifiable as gamers were being referred to ? The entire set ? Only the speaker truly knows what he meant, but it seems to me anyone demarcating the "circle of gamers" in the Collectors suburbs and not in close around the engaged Player's apartments or even way out by the Luddite Boardgamers ghetto is making a very personal choice, again. There simply is no evidence either way, and no objective reason to favour one side over the other, in fact without any modifier provided the safest interpretation is usually the strictest sense - in this case specifically to mean those directly engaged with the actual game, their #1 product.

Hey, I'm worried about these developments too and that the principles that have been espoused, even Championed, if not legally codified, could be stretched to breaking, I just don't see the point of bashing a defenceless "I'm Real I'm not a PR robot !!" bloke over the intended meaning of a sentence. Theres just no chance of consensus to be found in this debate without buckets of objectivity, or trust & presumption of innocence.

At least remember we don't know the whole story here, we don't know anything about the private business negotiations that resulted in this, and nor are we likely to. Does anyone really think a physical card game was MS' initial proposal? I suspect the REDs have said "no" a lot more than people give credit for, likely to a plethora of formulaic, corrupting & divisive corporate marketing horrors.

Recognising this wasn't simply some opportunistic deal over a business lunch but likely a long drawn out process puts a different tint on the whole thing I think, and if we can infer anything at all from these shadowy circumstances its that MS did not get all they wanted, therefore it may be that the REDs kungfu is deceptively strong, knowing the ancient wisdom of when to bend rather than risk a break.

TL; DR: While I do think this event marks a new chapter in REDs story, they haven't lied to, deceived or "sold out" their fans or themselves. I see no reason to suspect core principles are at risk, but it's good to be reminded an earned reputation can still be precious to people, and that more than the box product has been cultivated here. PR could've been handled better, and while realistically one day we will watch CDPR sink back into the shadows from whence it emanated, I'm confident they haven't peaked yet, anything else would be severe pessimism.

Has CDPRRED already told us why they gave MS the extra content in the CE?
What I understood it that MS gave them a podium at E3 and CD paid by putting a cloth map and a card game in their package but that can't be right, can it? I think every company would like to have The Witcher 3 on their stage and if you need to but it to one new demographic of gamers it is PlayStation 4 because it's their first Witcher gamer ever.
And in the end aren't we, the fans who pay up to 150 euro for the CE, the ones who promote your game the best and make friends, family and co workers their focus point about telling how amazing The Witcher and the company who makes the game is?
If this makes me do one thing it's avoiding MS who is seemingly only capable pulling their wallet to get the gamers attention (for another example look how they want an Uncharted clone and buy a timed exclusive Tomb Raider) instead of having ample studios to produce new games for their system and actually add something to the gaming landscape.
But in the end this was (for whatever reason) CD Project Red's decision. If you needed whatever why not ask your vast community? Why not have an open discussion about it and be honest?
I'm just sad the games industry is going this direction, sure everyone is doing it (not true btw) but is this what we want? I already stopped buying games day one who have a season pass and/or pre order dlc. I don't want to condole that behaviour. I wait for the complete edition in the budget bin. For the Witcher 3 I'm in not sure. I love it they care coming to PS4. I stand up and applaud that, but I'm also disappointed that the other console get's more. Man a card game is hours of fun added to the game. I want to buy this day one and I want the CE to show my support but it just doesn't feel right.

UPDATE - Statement from Marcin Iwiński, CD PROJEKT RED co-founder:

Looking at the heated comments, I believe that our announcement of the physical addition of two decks of Gwent cards and a cloth map, requires a further word from us.

Here at CD Projekt Red, we always put gamers first. Our PC versions are released DRM-free, we bend over backwards to give you the most beefed up editions of our games (be it standard or Collector's), and we deliver the same game, regardless of platform or version you buy. Moreover, we promised not have any exclusive DLCs, neither per platform nor per retailer, and we do stand by our promise--nothing has changed, nor will change in this regard.

Don't get me wrong, I do understand that these extra items might be desirable for Witcher fans playing the game on other platforms. However, as we are not offering any platform or retail exclusive DLCs or any other form of gameplay differentiation, we do have to find other ways to support our partners. We are also providing special pre-order items for certain retailers around the world, including Witcher comic books, posters, steel books or medallions. Funnily enough, we did not notice any heated comments on the pre-order specials.

What is the reason? Why are we doing this? We need the support of partners to make our game visible worldwide. This should hopefully translate to better sales, which will in consequence allow us to do what we have been doing for the last 10 years, i.e. reinvest this money to make more great RPGs, while still sticking to our values.

If you still consider that adding two decks of Gwent cards and a map of the in-game world to the Xbox One CE equals us betraying our values and not fulfilling our promises, well, it does make us sad, but the final call is always yours to make.

Still, I do hope that what we offer is unique and we can ask you to give us the benefit of the doubt. We have more great things to announce for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the coming months and I promise you won't be disappointed (yes, yes, there are no more exclusives coming).

No, it's not.
The content of a normal edition is only the game itself. The content of a collector's edition includes all the trinkets.
It's not the same content for every platform.
It's actually basic english. Here:
content (ˈkɒntɛnt)

1. (often plural) everything that is inside a container: the contents of a box.

The company clearly meant ingame content, adding the CE goodies is a way to conveniently stretch their comment.

I purchased the GoG version of the game it doesn't come with a box therefore according to your article i don't receive any content.

So they are telling us that they went lobbying with their tiny little game and no one wanted them on stage except MS who wanted in return a physical card game and a cloth map. Now CD is telling us it's actually not that great what they are getting extra and if we don't like it they are sad but in the end don't give a crap. That whole #getoverit is very reminiscing of the always online for the Xbone that wasn't an option for the military (and many others).
It's THAT attitude that is a HUGE let down for this company regarding their fans and loyal customers that kept them in existence these past 10 years.

TW3 will cost at least 110 000 000 PLN (34 000 000 USD), out of that 40 000 000 PLN is for production and is paid by CDPR, and marketing budget (25 000 000 USD) will be paid by distributors and publishers in advance and deduced from the copies they sell.
The marketing costs of the witcher 3 are huge about 25 000 000 USD, MS paid part of those costs (i guess a large chunk of it), gave them a front stage in their XBOX one conference and responsible for the marketing of the xbox one version of the game. Do you think that MS will give so much money and services for free?

MS helped in the marketing of the raise of the tomb raider, the game will be timed exclusive on xbox one, the estimation of this timed exclusiveness in the tomb raider forum is about a year. On the other hand in the witcher 3 all platforms will receive the game at the same date, all of us will receive the same game content, no exclusive DLC and no DRM. The cost is... all the game presentation had been made with an XBOX one controller, XBOX one CE will receive a cloth map instead of a paper map and 2 decks of gwent cards, i humbly bow in respect for what CD PROJEKT RED achieved here.

Remember one important thing, CDPR almost went bankrupt after marketing the witcher 1 and again after marketing the witcher 2 both of those games cost less then the witcher 3.

Ofcourse not, they get cut from the sales, it's in THEIR best interest to market tw3, cdpr doesn't owes them, they should be thankful for getting the game, xbone library is rather poor.

No, cdpr almost went bankrupt because of failed xbox port of the first witcher, it had nothing to do with marketing.
