Announcing Gwent and bolstering Xbox One Collector’s Edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

It is? I never cared about Tomb Raider so I didn't pay attention. But from what I know of people, when it comes out to PS4 and PC people will still buy it and enjoy it.

What CDPR did is not good, but it's still meaningless compared to big publishers (and CDP is big) so we shouldn't say that they turned into another one of them. They still have no paid DLC which nobody else practices , and Ubisoft just put microtransactions in their games. So it's not good, but don't blow it out of proportions, you don't really want CDPR to turn into another AAA publisher.

The point i was trying to make was that XB1 is being outsold by the PS4 by 3 to 1. And then you have Microsoft and their DRM blunder last year for the console. And then you factor in the lackluster sales of the XB1 version of the Definitive Edition (compared to the PS4 version). 1, 2 and 3 of the biggest reasons the XB1 is the worst choice CD and SE could have chosen to be exclusive on. Sure they parked a dump truck full of money at their doorstep... but talk about shooting yourself in the foot, after tripping over your shovel that you used to dig your own grave!

Yeah its smart to compare Tomb Raider platform exclusivity to Witcher 3 Xbox CE 2 items more...

First steps on a slippery slope. Seen it happen before. It's almost unheard of for any company who has made a first step like this one to not keep slipping afterwards. I don't think people are saying quite yet that "CDPR are another EA/Activision/UbiSoft, etc." but what they are seeing is that the cracks have now shown in what could almost be considered an inevitability to head that way given prior track records.

Of course it's unfortunate that there's a piece of physical swag that is exclusive to a specific console, but this is in no way an act of betrayal. Their statement(s) earlier obviously refers to in-game content, such as DLC-material, expansions, and what have you. I feel that jumping down CDPR's throats and freaking out with rage is a bit uncalled for...

You should talk to some of my friends. A lot of them quickly say: fuck it, if that is their way to make money I won't buy it at all and i'll just pirate it. Oh, day one dlc? -> Pirate. Oh, platform exclusive gamemissions? -> Pirate. And a lot of people I know think like that.
So i'm pretty sure that the pc and ps4 sales will be less than it would have been. (Though it could be by a small margin, we have no way to know atm ofcourse.)

As has been said already. Slippery slope.

On the contrary this 97 page long thread now... I've seen quite a lot of things mentioned
"EA Poland"
"BioWare is better"
"I have been betrayed, I will buy the game used to hurt the developer"

I get that some people are upset about it and that's fine they want to express their grievance but that's taking it a bit too far and especially so when one start to attack developers who try to answer some of the questions or explain things.

I think you will find that gamers are lazy as hell. They will say they will boycott X, Y and Z... and secretly buy it anyway.

So with that said, in the heat of the moment, they will say all the curses and hate words under the sun at whoever, but in the end, they really dont mean half of what they say.

You know... internet and all.

I know you want to defend cdpr, but don't start saying things that are not entirely true. I've read every single post here and those are really a minority.

Cant CD Project just make those 2 goodies available to other people, so everyone can buy it if they want to.
I Pre-Ordered the Witcher 3 for PC and would still want the card game and map with my CE be it in there or bought extra.

I'd like to think that those are exaggerated claims of where CDPR may be heading rather than claims of where they are right now.

Besides, anybody who claims that "BioWare is better" after Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 has to be exaggerating. ;)

Unfortunately, it seems I need to keep drilling this point home:

Slippery Slope Fallacy

Description of Slippery Slope

The Slippery Slope is a fallacy in which a person asserts that some event must inevitably follow from another without any argument for the inevitability of the event in question. In most cases, there are a series of steps or gradations between one event and the one in question and no reason is given as to why the intervening steps or gradations will simply be bypassed. This "argument" has the following form:

1.Event X has occurred (or will or might occur).
2.Therefore event Y will inevitably happen.

This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because there is no reason to believe that one event must inevitably follow from another without an argument for such a claim. This is especially clear in cases in which there is a significant number of steps or gradations between one event and another.

Examples of Slippery Slope

1."We have to stop the tuition increase! The next thing you know, they'll be charging $40,000 a semester!"

2."The US shouldn't get involved militarily in other countries. Once the government sends in a few troops, it will then send in thousands to die."

3."You can never give anyone a break. If you do, they'll walk all over you."

4."We've got to stop them from banning pornography. Once they start banning one form of literature, they will never stop. Next thing you know, they will be burning all the books!"

I know you want to defend cdpr, but don't start saying things that are not entirely true. I've read every single post here and those are really a minority.
Not really not trying to defend anybody here just pointing out that some have already spelled doom over this which is taking things overboard. Especially attacking any dev that tries to say something.

Which is more like a nudge not to do it in the future because action will be taken, that is all.

Slippery slope is a way of speaking to get a point across. There is no real definition as the meaning changes with time.

Unfortunately, it seems I need to keep drilling this point home:

Sorry, but I think the term and point still applies. Having been a gamer since the mid-80's and watched a lot of devleopers and publishers come and go and seen what happens when this type of thing happens, then I think it's pretty safe to say that "slippery slope" is indeed the term I should have used. The fact is, these type of things almost always start with these type of events. BioWare is a classic example: a company that slipped very quickly after a series of events and became a shadow of their former selves in only 3-4 years, pretty much beginning from when EA took the helm. I called it during the first steps then, and was right. I actually wish I hadn't been, but... there we have it.

Prove me wrong, CD Projekt. Prove. Me. Wrong. Because I'd rather be wrong than right under the circumstances.

Don't get me wrong, I do understand that these extra items might be desirable for Witcher fans playing the game on other platforms. However, as we are not offering any platform or retail exclusive DLCs or any other form of gameplay differentiation, we do have to find other ways to support our partners. We are also providing special pre-order items for certain retailers around the world, including Witcher comic books, posters, steel books or medallions. Funnily enough, we did not notice any heated comments on the pre-order specials.

What is the reason? Why are we doing this? We need the support of partners to make our game visible worldwide. This should hopefully translate to better sales, which will in consequence allow us to do what we have been doing for the last 10 years, i.e. reinvest this money to make more great RPGs, while still sticking to our values.

Thy explain their reasoning here, i see this part of the post as we are sorry for giving exclusive items to one platform but we need to find ways to support our partners that will not hinder the game, or give any platform extra game content.
We will receive an incredible game from a company that listen and care for their player base.
I purchased the PC version of the game and i hope the XBOX 1 players will enjoy the extra items that thy receive from CD projekt red. if any of the other platforms will receive something extra in the coming months i will e happy for them too.

Please don't take this act as betrayal, i find it as the lesser evil as geralt might put it.
I don't find CD projekt red as a company the betrayed me, thy announced the deal early on and didn't kept it as a secret as other companies might do, any of you remember that bethesda announce steamworks a month prior to the shipping of the game? can two extra items in the CE be equal to intrusive DRM or locking the game out of other platforms?
I don't see it like this.

The only suggestion i have for CDPR is to make those extras available outside of the Collector's Edition for XB1.

Sure have them available for purchase yes, but at least it becomes possible for those not getting that particular platform, a way to obtain them, even if they have to pay extra for them. It isnt an ideal solution, but its SOMETHING.

As aTW saga follower from the begining. I dare to ask you to prove you're not wrong. Prove it please.

CDPR has a story of more than 10 years working in this busyness, 10 years of work and experience, they have prove me they have do it right. So now, please prove me that YOU are not WRONG.

If MS is the knive and the other publisher used it as a weapon, prove me that CDPR will use it the same way, prove they won't use it as a new Chef cooking the best dish.

Prophets are not my forte, sorry.
