Any adventure gamers here?

My fav. are

Monkey Island 1 & 2.
Gabriel knight 1
Beneath a steel sky (must have for sci-fi/cyberpunk fans --- and it's free too)

Anything interesting that came up in the last few years?

I liked the Dreamfall/longest journey series but they don't come close to the classics.

I played them from time to time, BaSS is (was?) also free on gog.
I' played The Cat Lady (sorta like The Crow meets Lynch). Also Primordia, Deponias and fun funniness.
The Cat and the Coup was cool too though it's a short documentary and not really and adventure game. I plan to get my hands on siberias and Obduction.

Well, I know a new Tex Murphy game is coming out soon:

Other than that, I'd recommend Sanitarium, an older title, if you haven't played it. Machinarium is a pretty cool recent point and click. Tim Schafer's Broken Age got some mixed reviews and it's only partially out at the moment.

If you have a Nintendo DS (apparently is also available for iOS) I recommend you Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. It's pretty unique, so much so that I don't know if it's an adventure game, a puzzle game, both or neither. You have to protect a series of characters of the story from dieing in different scenarios by possessing objects and using their special actions. The art style is really cool, it's 2D with cel shaded super-stylized 3D characters that look like they were 2D too. It's super-charming, cleverly written (until the end which I found too convoluted... but didn't spoil the charm and the fun that I had had with the game), sometimes a little slow when having story exposition, but the puzzles are just the right amount of challenging. Don't use a walkthrough, you don't need it. It's one of those games where I recommend (like Limbo) if you get stuck, stop playing, do something else, relax and in your next time playing I'm sure you'll be full of new ideas of how to do it.

I used to play so many P&C adventure games in the 90's, but unfortunately I've lost or sold most of them. Still have my copy of Blade Runner, fun game if you haven't played it. The Journeyman Project is another pretty good older game, actually the first game i owned on PC.

If you feel it as an unfortunate thing, you can always try and get them through gog.com. They won't have every game and on every language, but they have a vast selection of old and new point and click adventures.

Anyone remember Grim Fandango? Very cool game by LucasArts. Grim & Blade Runner were my favourite games back then and still rate highly on my list. The artwork for Grim Fandango is just amazing, the characters are drawn in the Mexican 'day of the dead' style that you see just about every now. Plus the type used and colours are extremely pleasing to those who have an interest in Graphic Design. Would love to play this one again.

Yes, but isn't that more of an Action Adventure for english speaking people? In Spain we call action adventure games that (aventura de acción) or just adventure (aventura), while adventure games as in point and click or things like Grim Fandango as "aventuras gráficas", which is a funny name as it gives importance to it being an adventure game and having graphics... "hey, guys, this videogame has graphics! outrageous, right?" XD okay, it's meant to show that it's an evolution from the text adventure genre.

Yeah it is more action adventure, just thought it was worth a mention. :3 Even though it's classified as action adventure, it's still my favorite adventure type game. Also speaking of point and click adventure games, anyone play the Broken Sword games? I've never really met anyone else who's played them but I remember really liking them when I was reeeeeeally small.

The full series is on GOG. I got the original as a freebie from them a year or so ago, but have never got round to playing it. My husband liked it.

Broken Sword was my first point and click adventure game which I played when I was young and it's awesome imo. I have played others and I really like the genre but I admit I have not played that many still.

It was my first point and click adventure too. ^^ I remember getting stuck in it so many times, but just thinking about it makes me want to go back and play it.

Just recently picked up Syberia I and II. They're... okay. My initial impression was quite good, but the more I played, the less enjoyable it became.

Beat the first one, at the start of number 2 - looks like more of the same.

What's the highest resolution allowed in the Syberia games? I have them on Steam and was thinking about playing them in the near-ish future. Maybe.

I started playing that Ghost Trick game because of this thread. Very Phoenix Wright-ish in its weirdness. Kind of annoying when the mechanics switch, though. Multiple characters with ghost tricks get in the way of each other, and having to wait until the "time until death" hits zero for certain puzzles is a weird change from earlier chapters. But hey, any game with a talking Pomeranian and death by giant chicken is a win in my book.

Can't really say, it uses pre-rendered backgrounds so you can't change it. It's fairly low though but you shouldn't really notice it too much - just on the character models.
