Any news about singleplayer campaign?

After 2 months in the beta I've lost intrest in MP. I gave it a try over a weekend after a long time and now I can say I'm done with it. But singleplayer campaign -that's a different story. If it will be anything like Witcher games story wise than I will be all over it. Some info CD,please.

A singleplayer campaign wont be like WItcher games, how would it be like that? Its mainly a multiplayer game anyways. Multiplayer is the focus, not singleplayer.

I wouldn't underestimate the singleplayer campaigns - those will come with 8 to 10 hours of story content (only the first one will be a lot shorter as it seems). And what I've seen from the storytelling last gamescom was pretty promising! So it's definitely something to look forward to.

Basically what devivre said. It's true, a big part of the game is the multiplayer aspect but they already said they want to implement a huge singleplayer campaign that isnt just a small thing you do and the forget about it.

Here are some quotes I found devs and articles have posted so far regarding SP:

"Gwent, which is free-to-play and will launch on PC, Xbox One, and PS4, is more than just a competitive card game. It’s going to have a full-fledged single-player mode. There will be several campaigns—each 10+ hours, the developers say—with top-down maps and even optional areas to explore. Your main character, who will vary depending on the story, will make decisions ranging from menial to significant, in true Witcher style."

"During a short demo of Gwent at an E3 presentation this afternoon, CD Projekt Red showed off an early section of this new campaign. The premise: Geralt is working as an escort for a group of mercenaries, and they find that one of their men has been slaughtered, apparently by a demon. After some dialogue, they go off into the world, which is a simple cel-shaded map with a top-down 2D perspective. In the demo, Geralt and crew decided to ignore the main path and instead explore a nearby ruin, where they’re rewarded with a card that they can use in future battles."

"You will be able to buy the single player campaign that will be self contained and with a great story - you get cards in the campaign and unlock new ones when you progress in the game - you don't have to do PVP at all to be able to enjoy Gwent. You pay once for the single player and enjoy a great story done by writers and quest designers from W3."

I don't know what you mean. Why wouldn't it be? I was talking "story wise". I'm not expecting 150 square kilometers 3rd person SP RPG da Vinci style masterpice. But some of that epic story telling that witcher games have, with well developed characters and quality dialog with strong decisions and consequences. And instead of fighting (combat and all that) you play gwent.

Well, since, last we heard, the same writers who brought us Wild Hunt and its expansions are creating the stories for the single-player, the campaigns should be quite entertaining.

Thanks for that info Strollin. First time I heard about that Geralt and mercenaries thing (I did hear that Geralt will be the protagonist in the first one and that it will be free). I heard somewhere that you play as leaders.Like Radovid for instance. I hope that Dandelion narrates everything and that comic-style cutscenes return.

That's good to hear. And speaking about expansions. Was it just me or was Hearts of Stone epic.Like really f.... epic. I mean Wild Hunt was really good but HoS was on a whole new level if you ask me.I hope that gwent singleplayer will go that way. That's where Witcher is at it's best-short stories that are surprising and unique and unrelated to the main thing.

I prefered Blood and Wine by far, though HoS was really good too.

Lets Talk Campaign

We could go on and on discussing about what needs to get nerf or buff, whos OP or not, but iam deeply curious to what the campaign will be like, whats your thoughts it'll be like? since the patch, they remove the campaign option (hopefully thell slap it back there soon). As most of us who played the Witcher series, the reason why we fell in love with it so much is because of the story and i believe campaign mode should follow the same flow. I dont got the time to be reading books but id hope there are still more Geralt related source materials that they can squeeze out off. :) and while there at it, maybe they can slide in them *wink* *wink* situations, lol

Personally I think the campaign mode will be more or less like the gwent tournament quest in the witcher 3
where your set to play a bunch of top players

Which would be awesome

as much as CDPR puts into their products
I'm sure we will all be pleased at the end result

Interesting, i just hope it'll at least be fully voice, imagine playing Gwent with Lambert and he continuously speaks sarcastically during the match XD

I really enjoyed the campaign in ES:L, too small though. I liked it because i get immersed in any fantasy world and also because it gives free cards. Free cards are actually very important for any F2P player.

What i hope here: That the campaign will be on the same standards of the Witcher franchise. Meaning, it is long, with depth and it explores the games lore. Just PvE or Co-Op i do not mind, i only hope they do include free rewards (just cards, kegs or scraps) as they are needed for the F2P player to catch up as fast as possible and with less frustration the paying players.

We discussed this a bit in a previous thread, where we received a wee teaser from REDDorigen , one of the lead writers:

Our goal with single player campaigns is to tell more quality stories from The Witcher universe first and foremost - for us it's much more than just an additional game mode for free to play game, it's an opportunity to tell different kinds of stories and to explore different forms of narrative. Our team includes experienced writers and designers who worked on TW3, and we're all excited to work on it.

I hope that you'll enjoy it as much as we enjoy making it. Stay tuned for more details. :)

As for me I would enjoy a campaign with some RPG element in it, with a branched story path and different possible outcomes. Not just a sequence of opponent to defeat, but a CCG-RPG hybrid. That would be great!

Let's hope you'll be able to catch up with those nasty, nasty paying players!

I'm looking forward to a Campaign mode aswell but noticed the interface PH has been removed. I think this is something a lot of card games lack. Looking back now i think the PVE content is what made Duel of Champions my favorite CCG and unlike hearthstone it didn't require any initial investment, it was there to help you not take your money.

yea hopefully it's not like the witcher 3 gwent tournaments because that would be boring and repetitive. and as the dev quote above says it's a new opportunity to tell a story perhaps from a non-witcher perspective

now listen to this. first of all the lay out of the game and its map would be very similar to witcher 3 (even tho it can feature a totally new place like poviss or zerekania) you can play as a young lad (or las) whose father and him/her worked on their peaceful farm off a relatively busy city (novigrad, vizima, etc.) when young your father was a decent gwent player and he still kept his deck at the cellar of your hut. somehow (let your imagination do it for you) he is killed when he goes to sell your farm goods to the city and you have to find the person responsible. the city goes under surveillance and no ordinary peasant can come and go but there is a gwent tournament run by a influential underground crime boss, you pick up your father's old and basic gwent deck and enter the city using the gwent as an excuse to avenge your father in the city. in your path you may need help from witnesses, one might a drunk gwent addict who won't even talk to you until you beat him in gwent. you will get a huge and top down view detailed map of the city with interest points, gwent card sellers, potential witnesses, etc. now this particular drunk gwent addict can be marked on the map on one of the taverns of the city, so just like in witcher 3 you have 3 paths to go and multiple things to do at the same time. once you beat them in addtion to info they might give you their best gwent card like in witcher 3 or some money which then you might use to buy gwent cards (or even food to refill your hunger bar lol) it can last up to 20 hrs. one limiting factor is that all the interactions have to end in a gwent match which can be weird at times (but even that can be designed well enough that it doesn't feel weird) all these story bits can be supplimented with narration over still images. like the ones witcher 3 had where the cut scenes occasionally jumped into a narration of geralt over 3 4 image slides. this sotry or hopefully something as deep can be told first person (the lad/lass himself/herself saying it) or third person (the
child of the lad/lass read it from their journal 40 years later) you may even come across a witcher (maybe geralt) in the story and you don't have money so you play a round of gwent for information he may hold

have you made it this far? :) do i sound like a crazy guy? i love witcher's dark and mysterious world in a rainy day/night in a huge city. i think it's a fetish i have developed in myself

I linked this Gamespot article from E3 2016 in the previous thread, but I'll quote it at length now, for those interested in the few details we've been told about the campaigns:
It's a full story--well, really, multiple stories. Each faction in the game (Scoia'tael, Skellige, Northern Kingdoms, and Monsters) will have its own fully voiced, 10+ hour campaign, with branching storylines and player choice. "It's not so simple to come up with a story for you playing as monsters," Tomaszkiewicz said. "But we have some ideas about it and I think it'll be pretty cool."

The game's story is presented in cutscenes that are somewhat similar to the storybook-like cel-shaded characters in games like The Banner Saga. At the moment, the characters in these scenes only have minor animation, but CDPR is looking to add more. Each of these scenes have dialogue options, and you'll have to make difficult choices that can impact the larger story.

But it doesn't end there. There is also a map you can walk around in. From a top-down perspective, you control a character moving through the map that CDPR claims is an open world. "There are events you can find, there are treasures you can find, some things might change in the map based on your decisions. There are secrets to find. As you progress through the map, it will evolve based on your choices. Tomaszkiewicz explains that, in the world, "There are events you can find, there are treasures you can find, some things might change in the map based on your decisions. There are secrets to find."

It's surprising that this mode is showing up in a collectible card game, but CDPR simply doesn't make games without narrative. Tomaszkiewicz told me, "We always did hard choices, morally gray choices, with impactful consequences. And this time around we want to do the same thing."

This is where CDPR's efforts to position the game as featuring pitched battles between armies, rather than just card matches, becomes even more important. Tomaszkiewicz and the other designers are using this to try to make Gwent work within this wider, meta-story. "This time around you are building an army," he explained. The cards you find in the world will essentially be "soldiers" in your brigade. He continued: "It'll be a story told from the perspective of leaders, and this is a big challenge because we have to come up with a new way to introduce choices and a new way to introduce exploration, and how you solve sidequests and side activities."

As I learned about it, standalone Gwent seemed more and more like it's being positioned as a Witcher game itself. You'll pursue multiple objectives at a time, find quests throughout the world, and change the story based on your choices. Elements of Gwent that made it so interesting in The Witcher 3 are coming back, too. You'll still pursue cards throughout the world and find them when completing quests and events.

This preview was, of course, from last year, so, certain aspects may change in the final release, as a result of the RED Team adding new content, and exploring alternative possibilities.

I was under the impression that only the first campaign would be free.
