Any way to change my Boxed keys into Steam keys?

Hi,

immediatly after TW1 and TW2 came out, i bought it as a boxed version. Still, i would like to be able to add them to Steam but sadly the boxed keys don´t work on Steam.
Is there any possible solution to this or do i have to try and trade them in?

You can't trade them for Steam keys, BUT you CAN get a backup copy from GOG, so you can have a digital version, removing the need for a Steam version.

Go to http://www.gog.com/en/witcher2/backup/, enter your product keys, and you'll have a digital version available for download.

Also from GOG you get absolutely no DRM at all and a whole lot of extra goodies like a digital artbook , soundtrack , comic , making of DVD just to name a few .

Thought so -.-

Well i DO have the Artbook and all that stuff (in TW2) it´s only because it´s just easier having it on Steam, that´s all. (And achievements ^^)

Well, guess topic closed then, thx ;)

What could be easier than having the GOG version? It doesn't have Steam's DRM, and once you've downloaded it, you never need to go online again if you don't want.

Unfortunately, you can't add them to your library. I understand where you're coming from, as I have TW2 in my Steam library and I'd like to add TW1, which I got from GOG.com.

However, you can add any non-Steam game in your library as a shortcut, so you can still use the Steam overlay to chat with friends and take screenshots, etc. It just doesn't provide the Steam achievements or playing time information.

Actually you can link every executable file into steam. Oh the hours playing Norton internet security. And really... Who needs achievements? Also you can't really buy games on steam, you can only get temporary subscription to play games, no really any reason to have games on steam these days.

I can sympathize with the OP, as I like to be able to track my progress playing a game and the Achievements can be quite fun for some games, a kind of mini-quest. It just adds some fun stuff to do for those of us who enjoy that sort of thing. Also it is convenient to have my library of games all in one place.

If my laptop breaks, or if I need to reinstall windows (which happened recently), etc., I just install the Steam client again and I can quickly download any of my games without fumbling around looking for an archived USB backup somewhere. And I don't have any optical drive, so there's no way for me to backup or install from disc.

The GOG backups of the Witcher games are there forever; you can download them again whenever you need them, just like with Steam.

Well, the Steam one´s are there 4ever too ;)

Yes, i know of the new agreement but seriously, i doubt Gabe will do crap with his users accounts. The new agreement was necessary because of the law the EU brought out so used games have to be sellable too (which sucks imho, but okay... EU...) so actually good services like Steam have to get strange things like the new agreement to be up to date.

I personally don´t have any problems with Steam and it´s DRM (since i´m online anyway whenever my PC is on). Only stuff i DO have problems with is things like SecuROM or crap like that, kicking me form being able to play just because i have some DVD burning software on my PC.
