Any ways to make the game more challenging and balanced?

Just finished the game on DM, and I have to say it was the best game I have ever played, but the leveling system and the difficulty left a lot to be desired. White Orchard was challenging, but after level 10 or so, it became too easy, even on DM. I have seen several mods that claim to make the game more interesting and challenging, but I don't know if there is any merit to those claims. Does anyone have experience with them? Are they any good? I want to continue playing this game.

The witcher 2 had a few mods like CEO which altered all the equips and another 1 that nerfed the skill trees a bit. they'll probably be something like that at some point. Made witcher 2 a lot more challenging at later lvls.

There are two such mods for w3 already, but I'm curious if anyone has tried them. I fear they are only amateur attempts, and break the balance more than fix it

This one is the way to go: http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/212/?

Better Combat Enhanced completely rebalances the game. I haven't tried it out yet, but from reading the patch notes it sounds like they know what they're doing. They give a fairly lengthy explanation for every change they made.

If you don't like some of the changes, like making all skills purchaseable form the beginning of the game, than you can always get Better Combat Standard instead: http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/167/?

Yeah, I tried Better Combat Enhanced and if you read the author's description, it seems like he knows what he is doing.

I haven't fully tested it but it seems a lot better. I like how food doesn't generate life instantly like a potion would. So you can't just heal instantly. Also you can't just constantly roll because you'll lose stamina. That's just a few examples. He changed a lot of other stuff, especially how signs are used. To be frank, I don't know why his changes aren't already in the vanilla. There are just gameplay elements that are trivial.

Even with that I still find the gameplay lackluster though. It's not just the balance but just the feel. There's no satisfaction in killing monsters for example. When ever I see a monster (like a drowner), I normally just run away because the gameplay/animation is just awful, like the monster just do the same one attack animation with no AI whatsoever. All monsters AI just consist of running toward Geralt and attack. No ambushing, no blocking, no outsmarting Geralt or any of that sort. Just one dimensional gameplay... still waiting for a good Redkit. /rant

Yeah I like better combat enhanced too, it's really well thought out. I'm currently level 10 on DM, BCE and the mission with the pellar's ritual that spawns a shit ton of wraiths was the hardest thing i've ever done, even though i was slightly overleveled. (you don't get much stat boosts from leveling). In contrast, I had no trouble with this on regular death match.

I managed to beat that quest with a constant 3 health regen items ticking (swallow, food, water), 2 potions (blizzard and tawny oil), using all the bombs that work on wraiths, using my oil, using alternate quen, normal quen, alternate yrden, normal yrden, and igni to light the fires. I also dodged, counterattacked and rolled around like a mad man. Died about ten times, while (not bragging but that's just how this mod is) on the normal DM, this quest was a cakewalk.

But when I finally beat it it was so god damn rewarding; I felt like a true badass witcher.

Thanks! Is there anyone else who can recommend trying BCE?
