Anyone else decide to run with 30FPS cap?

Just seeing if anyone else went for what I did and that was to run the game with everything on ultra and Hairworks turned on ALL but activate the 30fps cap?

My rig is
i5 2500k @4.5GHZ
8GB 1600Mhz DDR3
GTX970 @ 1500Mhz OC

Running 1920x1080

With unlimited frame rate I would fluctuate wildly between 30 - 58 with average of about 40 - 45 fps. This dipped during cutscenes (hairworks) to about 32 so decided just to put the cap on 30FPS.

It is actaully pretty damn smooth, couldnt really tell much difference between that and 45 (which I was surprised about as it is noticeable in most games) so worth it for stability.

I know 30FPS is considered console level, but really with all the "Shiny" turned on its actually pretty damn good! If it was more stable around the 45FPS mark I would have kept it unlocked but it wasnt.

Tried using DSR & the 30FPS lock and it was pretty sweet but did drop to low 20's during big scenes so not worth the bump really.

Just interested to see what others have done, especially those not running SLI

I'm running a 980 with everything ultra and hairworks off, getting almost constant 60fps. Decided to see how it plays capped at 30fps everything on including hairworks, but switched back after 30 seconds. It irritated me more than I thought it would.

I'm running uncapped frame rate, mostly ultra, but with some 'detail only' settings at medium. HBAO+ and Hairworks.

The GSync monitor avoids the problems of erratic and large changes in frame times or tearing that you get with Vsync on/off... TBH I have no idea what the FR is, but it appears totally "fluid". (Probably in the region of 30-35 most of the time, but I have made no attempt to measure it as it isn't causing any issues at all.)

1080p, MSI GTX970 (stock), i5-2400 (stock), 16GB RAM available in Windows 7.

the human eye is unable to notice difference between 30 or 60 fps...

Human eye can notice difference between 60fps and 120fps...

I'm playing with settings that give 50-60 fps, for me if it gets to 40 laggines really starts to bother me.

I tried 60 fps cap and it worked fine when it gave 60fps but when it dropped below that, even by few frames it started stutter horribly, it was unplayable and felt like 20fps (even though it was 55-57)
when I disabled the cap same framerates (50-60) looked normal.

Weird bug and makes cap useless if you can't keep it constantly @60fps

Quick tip: shadows can be put to low as it makes almost no difference visually at all, drawing distance of shadows is actually controlled by foliage distance slider.

I tried, but couldn't stand, so i went the alternate route. hairworks off, shadows= high, everything else "on" and ultra. I get 60 fps like this all the time, much better overall experience i think

With a R9 280X, the framerate varies slightly too much for my liking. While It can run at 40 fps close to max settings, I capped it at 35 using MSI Afterburner to give me a more consistent, smooth experience.

I went nuts and amped everything up in the usersettings.ini. I'm sitting at 30 fps with my 290x. Sucks that I have another 290x that's just sitting in my pc doing nothing, but I can wait.

Just curious if you guys also get Kung fu theater Geralt. Meaning that when he is in dialog it doesn't match the lip sync.

Well I did some fiddling - Hairworks off (looks cack once used to it being on) Shadows high and could get pretty much 55-60fps throughout.

But you know what? I will likely get flamed for saying this but I actually prefer 30FPS lock on this game!

It just didnt feel right at 60 - The game seemed to play the same speed but rotation speed felt too quick and the trees/grass blowing in wind looked stupid fast - like watching a film in fast forward. AT 30 it just feels right for the game - maybe they planned it that way so it worked on console?

Either way I am happy with Hairworks on and everythinng ultra locked 30.

Some games need 60fps (racers, First person shooters) but this is just fine IMHO

Others mileage may vary of course.
