To me the screenshots looks nothing next-gen. It's much more or less like TW2. It's not even near Far Cry 3 or even Crysis 2. Yeah the long list of features talking about latest technology and next-gen is just marketing gimmick to me at the moment.

Many has argued that it's using TW2 renderer and RedEngine3 renderer gonna pwnzor!. I really doubt it's gonna make a huge difference. If anything, perhaps FXAA could make a difference. Well i'll try to remain optimistic at the moment. But i'll judge later when they release the latest in-game screenshots. Time will tell all these huge ambitious features and promises could be a reality.

I'm hopeful but let's hope not CDPR let us down.

The renderer makes a very big difference, we are not just exaggerating, and RED arent just exaggerating, trust me.
Plus there is a competely new animation system and other things that you need to see in motion.

"begins to blur the line between pre-rendered CGI movies and real time rendered graphics"
"The technology uses high dynamic range rendering with 64-bit precision"

And in my opinion FXAA ruins the whole image, supersampling AA should be the only AA used in pc games other than MSAA.

It looks LOADS better than Far Cry 3. Crysis 2 may have the more advanced graphical options, but I'd still argue that its dull artistic direction (yay New York flats and rubble!) fails to make the game look very attractive.

I think the screenshots already look great, also in comparison to TW2. We'll know once we get to a more final build and get to see some full HD footage.

Who said Crysis 2? That is a terrible example!

Well maybe there was a patch later or something but I played it right after the release and graphic-whise the game was total mess, especially in DX11. Hideous textures, terrible tesselation, dreadful performance. All the signs of a bad port. (And, of course, it was a terrible game overall).

I haven't played Far Cry 3, not a fan of the series, but the screenshots looked ok.

W2 was mostly beautiful, except for weird colors and lightning in a couple of situations.

But I can't forget playing W1 in 2008 on my then high-end rig - especially the Vizima quarter where Triss lived and then the noon-wraith fields, with the beautiful music...I was genuinely moved - by a videogame! In 2008! Definitely one of my all time favorite gaming experiences.

Le's hope the devs are gonna return to that quirky, otherworldly mood of W1.

I can't even express how much I agree with this.
TW2 doesn't have the same quality atmosphere and environments as TW had. It's too colorful, too generically fantasy. Need to get back to that grim, gloomy, dirty, disturbing, frightening and mysterious world.
Art direction plays a huge role, and the one in the first game was much more fitting.

Absolutely right, the gloom and grim has to come back! :)/> I think they aimed for such mood in the first chapter (the river town) but missed a bit, largely due to strange coloring. But the grim and mud and despair definitely wanted to be there.

And to be fair, I did like some of the non-gloomy environments in W2, particularly the military camp and the trippy journey through the spirit realm. But the 3rd chapter was a huge missed oportunity gloom-wise, I feel like.

Now I respect everyones right to disagree, but I just wanted to fire off a quick post in defence of the great work CDPR did in crafting some brilliant environments for TW2. I mean, contrast the bustle and authenticity of Floatsam with the neglected beauty of those elven baths for example. Consider the temple courtyards, dark forests, ruins and mountain paths of those three - really quite visually diverse - acts. Honestly, I can still remember how my tiny little brain took a shit as I ventured out of Triss’ tent for the first time and saw tents ruffling against a backdrop of assembled troops and giant trebuchets. Just a beautiful, beautiful game - I would so hate to see any of that wonder lost in The Wild Hunt.
