The radio should mostly be corporate stations... one of the goals of the thread is to update/replace the format of the established in-world radio stations I posted in the opening post...

Would radio stations still be viable in 2077? With Pandora, LastFM, etc.. people would be more incline to create their own, rather than listen to what the market wants us to listen to. What would be intereste and an options, is to have an in game feed from one of these online music providers. Initially these feeds can be set to some preset stations created by CDPR.
This would then give the option to players to start choosing their own. I don't know the legality of it, copyright etc. But a joint venture with a some many month subscription to one of these vendors built into the price of the game. Cross promotion yada yada.

Even with the rise of webcast music and it's potential inclusion into the game I still see the Edgerunners and Zoners still rocking the old school pirate action. The Zoners because in many cases it's all they can manage. The Edge would keep terrestrial radio out of nostalgia and a desire to maintain local and underground radio and news.

Hell no, even those radio stations suck so hard its not even funny. Their programming is weak and amateur like. Plus the commercials, they wouldn't even fit in Night City at all.

Pretty much this.... plus for the pirate radio stations it has the advantage of being something that most people don't listen to anymore. It's lo-tech revolution in a high tech world.

Only the poor still listen to old fashion radio...

It's like the broadcast version of the amfeed on transmet...

I loved listening to Galaxy News in Fallout 3. It would be nice for CDPR to include something similar in Cybrerpunk. But 40's music is probably out of the question, isn't it?

Its not out of the question,... Bladerunners "One More Time" definitely had that sound... In fact, a radio station belting out some of those oldy standards wouldn't really be a bad thing...

I already want a classic late 79's early 80's funk/disco station, a Jazz station, and an 80/90's eclectic mix station.... because for gods sake something has to balance out the Industrial, Techno, Synth, and *shudder* dubstep stations that are bound to be there....

night clubs should have different themes, that can be based off different playlists you make

I like the Idea of being able to turn off tracks.
also like the Idea of picking what songs come on were so you can set them up for suspense or that added kick for combat
think its needs more then 3 options

but to add on this, I think having radio stations is cool, I also think someone who can compose music well is going to drop the beats better in a story situation, and do a better job with the mixing of tracks then the fade in and out from a MP3 or radio.
So we still need a genius composer that can deliver us something at least as good as the TRON Legacy sound track, with a bit more Night City feel to it

Ok here is what we have so far:

91.1 FM The Signal
DJ: Replay (Female)
This Pirate Radio station is run by a group of Netrunners called the Digital Renegades. They play Funk, classic and new, and between songs they give you the latest news of the Combat Zone, gang movements and disputes in the cities... and where to watch out for police.... Suggested bands : George Clintin/P. Funk (Atomic Dog), Earth Wind And Fire (Let's Groove, Dance Dance Dance) , Isaac Hayes (Shaft Theme), Bobby Womack (Across 110th street), Curtis Mayfield (Superfly), 1 Oz Jig (Brand New Day), Infectious Grooves (Violent and Funky), Gorillaz (Shoeshine)

101.0 The Mic
DJ: Uncle Mike or Maximum Mike, or Uncle Maximum (played by Mike Pondsmith)
This station plays music... I am thinking Instrumentals... like Fusion and Acid Jazz. Between the songs, Mike broadcasts the latest exploits of the player, tells us about possible story clues, and offers unfiltered news, as an alternative to the Corporate Media controlled news of the other stations. Tune in here to get the real scoop of whats going on in the city and the world. He also every now and then sends out coded messages, that just sound like static... until he meets you in person, where he gives you a code that unlocks the static, then you here them as instructions he sends out to various edgerunners. Suggested Bands: The Seatbelts (Tank from the Cowboy Bebop Soundtrack), Beastie Boys (Sabrosa), Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Herb Alpert, Jaco Pastorious, Thelonious Monk, Ronald Jenkees

Nostalgia FM:
DJ: ?
80's-ish pop, when it was fun... Men At Work, Duran Duran, etc...

FACTORY FLOOR 98.9
DJ: ?
Industrial music, Nine Inch nails, Ministry, KMFDM, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, etc...

Revolution 106.7
DJ: ?
Highly political music, punk, rap, hybrids... Rage Against The Machine, The Clash, Fishbone, Star Fucking Hipsters, Andrew Jackson Jihad, NOFX,

105.3 MAX-TECHNO - Suggested by Diamondhead
As seen in the Night City Sourcebook.
DJ's ran by AI and Netrunners.
Underground Techno -(Examples of REAL Techno DJ's; Carl Cox, Adam Beyer with Drumcode Podcast, Chris Liebing with CLR Podcast, L.A.'s Droid Behavior with D-Node Podcast, Dubfire, Lee Burridge, Nicole Moudaber, anything from Detroit like Robert Hood and Richie Hawtin the techno God, also Sven Vath) So much good underground.

99.6 The Dust
DJ: ? (preferably female)
Nomad Music... Very Eclectic Mix of songs about being on the road, or being outlaws, or songs with a post apocalypse feel.... things like Rodrigo Y Gabriella, Santa Esmerelda (Dont Let Me Be Misunderstood), Tina Turner (We Dont Need Another Hero),

EBM station with bands like Le Syndicat (http://youtu.be/f9HFuJeImOU), Front 242 (http://youtu.be/awnKnBusJYs), Front Line Assembly (http://youtu.be/PJdt25fl9oI), Nitzer Eb (http://youtu.be/x0HsjYtdAKM), KMFDM (http://youtu.be/FMHQ2a7-FCQ), Covenant (http://youtu.be/ZAj0ypjOXao).

A hard core punk station, no green day bullshit.

Some Type of Japanese/Korean Pop station... like Fumami in GTA 2.

Some type of classic rock station

Some type of metal station

And of course a bunch of other techno stations which seem underground today, but would be the staples of corporate/popular sound in the cyberpunk world.

I loved the GTA radio stations (well, certain ones), and Galaxy News Radio. My problem with them was lack of selection. After wandering around for a couple of hours you start to hear the same songs over and over again. That may work for the canned corporate stuff, but the underground stations should be more diverse.

Of course, you can only ship so many songs with the game. Why not offer an option that takes advantage of high-speed internet connections, and license Pandora's (or something similar) tech to deliver streaming audio that is regularly updated?

GTA 4 and Fallout 3 both implemented ambient audio from radios fairly well, so that's certainly something I'd like to see. Hanging out on the corner when some douchebag streaks past with obnoxious dubstep blaring from the giant speakers he's had bolted to the trunk? You know I'm gunning for that guy now.

Playing your own MP3s should also be an option, it's simple enough to implement.

And Mike definitely needs to be a DJ.

I will never understand why importing your own MP3's is not done more often... it can't really be a coding issue... I dunno maybe it is.... more so I expect it is done because of 1. Game companies pay an enormous amount of money to license the music, and both they and the artists want to get the most out of their money, and get the most exposure for the music possible. And 2, anti-pirating concerns who still believe that if you have music on the HD of your comp or console, it must mean you are pirating it.

Well with pc gaming importing your own music isnt an issue. jus gotta change sounds options around and if you are any good with program manipulating you can successfully play your own music (relative to the game environment like battle music while enemies are around). Then again I could just be a bigger nerd than most HAHA

Importing MP3s shouldn't be problem at least not on PC. A small team behind Eurotruck 2 Simulator done it this way, put your favorite music inside My Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\music folder and you are good to go, all you have to do now is bring up built in player and press play button.
Heck that game even has Online Radio within player, so you can pick your favorite genre from bunch of radio stations to listen while driving over Europe.

So it shouldn't be a big coding deal for CDPR to implement something like that.

It is always appreciated but question is: is it important for devs to to that?

In my opinion, it is a nice to have radio player as an option which player can enable or disable anytime.
