What has all of that to do with "western"?

Well they are both Westen Games, Poland may be counted as central or eastern Europe, but the whole of Europe is Cultuerly "Western", the Eastern culture is much further east than Poland.

First point is Bethesda are writing a Original story with the central character as a blank slate, this imposes huge restrictions on story developement and Player interactions with NPC's.

CD Projekt Red wrote no story at all, the Witcher isn't their IP. This also imposes massive restrictions on character developement, but entirely different ones to Bethesda. The Story is well mapped out and many things in the books are directly transferred to the game, others must be adapted.

I prefer the Bethesda approach as making my own story is part of the fun, as is choosing what the character looks like, from sex to race.
I accept that isn't the way in this series and go with the flow.

As for your second point I don't see much Adult content difference other than sex and language, both have adult levels of violence and the fact is Bethesda are Americans which is an incredibly retarded nation in matters of the flesh, at least officially. This is the major problem with all american games.
Axe in head is fine, mouth on nipple is not allowed.

Lastly I think Bethesda wanted the Teen Rating, rather than the Mature they got, they are a publisher owning the developer Bethesda Game Studios, it's the publisher that makes all the decisions, they do so for profit alone.

The characters and world are based on the books, but the STORY is written by CDPR.

This whole mentioned in the topic think is about sales, for sure but CS Projekt is planning to create their world as real as they can. Stuff like swearing and sex, they may be mature, but they are also natural, which is the key. Also, about story, quests and such stuff, The Witcher requires attention and it's very complex in many aspects. You can play many games almost mindlessly, which serves well, when it comes to children, or casuals, dont think, just play, enjoy the gameplay. I love that.

A game/book/whatever does not NEED to be dark/edgy/mature to be good. Star Wars and Lord of the Rings are quite the opposite of TW but they are by no means bad stories. Now when any kind of media has the pretense of being mature but the writers are too timid to tackle the issue or don't have the experience then we do have a problem.

People shouldn't put constraints on art. Art is supposed to be thought provoking.

So yes, I think those who exclude things from their games because of political correctness are doing it wrong.

The idea that people chose to conceal their words and art in a world with horror and art is silly. People need to be shown the cruelty, to see it so much that they start doing something about it in our world, but people hate to have their bubbles of ignorance burst.

"Based on" is the same as not wrote and just semantics, imn my opinion.

The point I'm making they adapted an existing story and characters with complete and detailed back stories and used those exact same characters in the game, but don't think I'm condemning them for doing it that way. I'm just emphasising, it's a completely different method to what Bethesda did, which is basically sketch a very basic story for the player to flesh out, with lots of world lore not directly related to your character.
They are two different techniques and not really comparable in the way the OP attempts.

Also just because, I prefer to play a character I create with my own back stoiy and develop my story as the game evolves, doesn't mean I can't appreciate the alternative method CD Projekt Red have used.
It's just a preference, not a red line, I will not cross..

I prefer to create my own character , but W2 is my favourite game to date. Its not about taste, its about quality. I really want a good TES game. Open world and ability to choose your race(which changes nothing except looks and one skill btw) is not an excuse to have poor writing, bad combat, repetitive generic quests, like 5 voice actors for the whole game, world that completely ignores what you have done, boring rpg mechanics etc etc etc. For a company that has budget, time and experience...not very impressive. I dont care about main storyline in TES. Remove it. Just give me at least some motivation to explore and try different characters.

Maybe it's a language difference, but the story in TW3 is original, and written by CDPR. It is NOT an adaptation of an existing story. Yes, the characters and back stories come from the books, but saying that they didn't write the story isn't just about semantics, it's a total misrepresentation of fact.

That is what I was about to reply with :) I was pretty sure CDPR did write all the story and dialogue for W3.
