Actually I don't see how this armor would slow Geralt down or hinder his movement. In fact long, wide clothings are pretty easy to move in; think of the outfits (called "gi") that Judo and Kendo fighters wear.
From my personal experience (many, many years of Karate, Ju Jutsu and Kali) I'd say: A good robe that's going way down, close to your ankles, may be a good thing to have, under some circumstances. If tailored correctly it doesn't restrict you, and sometimes it may even conceal what you do with your legs.

Yeah, but he's wearing pants under it, he's not choosing between tight clothing and loose clothing, he's wearing loose clothing over pants so nothing is really accomplished. If it's light and flexible then it probably doesn't offer that much protection so why wear it? If it offers protection it's probably not as flexible or as light as other materials thus hindering movement.

Meh, it might not fit my view (which might as well be wrong, I'm no expert) but it gets extra style points so I'll definitely use it because it looks cool :D

Ah, well, but some posts here stated that this kind of armor would restrict his movement, and that's what I just wanted to comment on.
Long story short: W1 as well as W2 both had an absolutely amazing armor design, and though we don't know much about what awaits us in W3 (armor wise), I'm pretty sure it will be equally awesome. :)

Armor designs and what not

I have not been very active in the forums, so please excuse me if stuff like this has already been asked.
Today I saw the bloody amazing "Bear Armor" design:
http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140814220310/gameshub/images/d/d3/The_Witcher_3_Wild_Hunt-Bear_armour_1407872239.jpg
Please, please say that this will make it into the final game, I can only imagine how awesome it would be roaming Skellige with the level 3 version of it. For me outfitting Geralt will be a key part of the immersion, so having some more of these kinds of awesome warm-looking armors would be sweet :)
Do you guys have any idea of how many armors there will be in the game / if this kind of detail is to be expected or not?

Edit: I also want to thank all of you at CD Projekt for making such an awesome series of games. If I were to explain how happy I am that you got me into reading the Witcher books and how excited I am for The Witcher 3, I would have a hard time. It hurts to see stuff like the backlash from the most recent trailer, because I want to see you guys succeed and get the recognition you deserve... You are one of the few companies I truly trust and I want it to stay that way and seeing you creating such an ambitious game as The Witcher 3, kind of feels like being a father watching his kid do a magic show for the first time... DON'T SCREW IT UP SON, I LOVE YOU, I BLOODY LOVE YOU. (not trying to be patronizing)
... This got weird, I am tired, I'll sleep now. Bye.

I would like to see an updated set like the one ftom TW1 return, with the X'ed swords across his back like it was but with the new better graphics. Could be a free dlc maybe;)

Oh me too, I just thought it would be neat unlockable set or dlc in the game. Kinda like TW1 and TW2 free dlc Geralt skins idea ;)

I just hope that not all armor sets will look as hilariously bad and unfitting as the one from the DLC pack...

That's ridiculous. Gambesons were pretty much standad-issue in Medieval times.

Look at the amount of leather armor Samurai wore. It didn't hinder movement enough to be worth the trade-off of fighting unarmored.

that would be sweet! I am still hoping that we will be able to have our scabbards in an X like in that early armor concept art.

I miss the witcher 1 armor, it was simple, and exactly how I imagined him described in the books. non of the fancy stuff we have seen, geralt was never up himself enough to wear something like some of the stuff in the witcher 2. he was never one to wear, insignia, patterns or crests (in fact he ad an aversion to it) he just wore a jerkin (leather vest) and simple light weight clothing. I hope CDPR give us an opportunity to role play that image of Geralt again in the witcher 3.

Yes, witcher 2 armors were great in detail and artistic quality but imo they were overdesigned. Too much unpractical, colorful decorations, and looked quite expensive.
In books geralt wore simple leather jackets, often old and torn off.

more authentic design less those fantasy ones

here is numbered version i like robe simple designs like 4,20,21,22

Gambesons are probably the best value for money armour a poor soldier could manage, and they are effective. Those multiple layers of linen can and did stop arrows, that would slam right through mail. Alexander used that linen armour, and one cannot argue his effectiveness. There's a reason mail and gambeson were the armour of choice for most professional soldiery for centuries, it simply worked to save lives. Gambesons for the cushioning of blows and the foiling of piercing weapons, mail for the slashing blows of swords and such.

Edit: Interestingly the gambeson remained after mail fell out of use, many professional duellists swore by it, and it was later included in the Buff coat that become ubiquitous in later methods of warfare. I've always thought the buff coat was what Geralt should be using, it proved itself in combat through the ages and matches the book descriptions well enough.

Personally I too kept to the simpler, more Witcher like armours, than the overly froofy stuff that was introduced in the second game. Light leather armour and light leather jacket. Or went bare chested and axe weilding depending on mood.

witcher armors are one of the best (if not the best) but still there is too much decorations (for a poor outcast ;))

Geralt actually doesn't wear any "armour" at all in the books. He also doesn't wear a Gambeson. He wears simple (black) CLOTHES. The only "armour" he wears are leather gloves with silver spikes on the back... ;)

That's the way I want to play him in the games. True to the lore.

He's introduced wearing a leather jerkin that serves as a stout method of turning blows. I think that would realistically be something like a buff coat.

Way too fancy and sophisticated imo but the direction is right. We shouldn't forget that Geralt is poor in the books. I mean really, really POOR. He earns just enough to get his daily food and water and most of the time not even that much. Sometimes he's able to buy a new leather jerkin but definitely not a fancy one. I think all of his clothes should be simple and cheap. I know that it's hard for talented desingers to make simple looking clothes on porpuse but I think sometimes you have to limit yourself (and your obvious talent) to stay true to the lore and even more to the "feeling and atmosphere" of a character's appearance...

In the first book Geralt was introduced wearing a simple wool coat and and a worn-out black leather jerkin below which was bound together above the shoulders and at the neck. Later he was again described wearing a black wool coat and a a black leather jerkin several times at different occasions (he bought for example a new one in Novigrad). So that seems indeed to be his "standard outfit", together with his black leather gloves with silver spikes and the black headband...

By the way, in the books he always only wears ONE sword on the back, the normal/iron/meteorite one. His potions and his silver sword are usually bound to the saddle of Roach and he only take the silver sword with him when it's really needed for a fight...

So back to the options. I don't mind if there will be sophisticated and fancy armors. I just hope that there will be at least one properly made outfit that realy displays the character we know from the books correctly. In Witcher 2 there wasn't even ony "simple" black leather jerkin to wear, not even talking about that gameplay/combat kind of forced you to wear "better" armour. The books Geralt is some kind of "warrior priest" fighting without real armour for whatever reason, relying completely on his speed and sword skills to be faster and more agile than any of his opponents. And I want to be able to play Geralt exactly like that in Witcher 3...

Oh, and on a side note. I hope the armour sets won't give any stat bonuses or effects or whatever. If at all better armour should just offer better protection from damage and the heavy ones should also have some drawbacks. And yeah, I know very well that a well made plate armor isn't even close as limiting as many people think it is. But Geralt doesn't fight like a traditional medieval knight and his usual enemies aren't highly armoured human opponents but monsters. And he's a mutant being much faster than any normal human being so that should be considered as well...

@eunoia_evanescent 15 with the hood looks cool, reminds me of a flight jacket. Now if it was only as dark as 18, but had some better looking olive green pants. I think Black, Dark Olive Green, Browns and Greys would look really good in different set styles. I don't think Geralt will have a cloak and I'm fine with that, because it might look stupid and not work well with his swords. Now if we do get sets with hoods, that I like. I was not a huge fan of the back of the elf hood style in TW2 tho. But what if they gave us the options to maybe flip the hood up or down in the armor menu screen in our inventory. That wold be cool, just add a little hood on/off tab next to our set.;)

Yes, simple leather jacket is Geralt's standard outfit in the books...And if I remember correctly-new jacket in Novigrad is the only clothing he ever bought...
Too bad he didn't wear it for a long time:D
But I think most of the people wouldn't be happy whit that...Variety is important today, I guess...

And about wearing just one sword...From gameplay perspective, maybe constantly going back to Roach to pick up the silver sword would be annoying and boring...

Yeah, I agree. I just hope that they inlcude at least the option and ONE clothes set that is truely as close as possible to the lore in the books. So that we book lovers and lore enthusiasts have the freedom to choose as well and not only the new fans and people who don't care about that. I personally don't mind if they make 50 fancy armor sets if at least there is ONE set with a really simple black leather jerkin (and hopefully black coat...) just like in the books. ;)

About the sword: well, people complained about the potions system in W2 as well (that you have to use them before combat and choose wisely which to use). But it was immersive, believable and true to the lore and that's why I personally loved the system as a fan of the world. Not everything gets better just because people expect it or people demand it. Being unique and believing in a strong vision (like best possible immersion) is a strength. And I don't think it would be annoying. There are only few enemies which require a silver sword and Geralt usually informs himself before he hunts down such creatures. And outside of cities he usually travels on horseback so he has his silver sword always close to him. It would be nice if we could at least have the choice whether we want to take the silver sword on our back all the time or not. It's actually as easy as including a button prompt while standing besides your horse to switch between silver sword on back and silver sword stored at the saddle. So it would be up to each individual to decide in which situations they want to have both swords on the back (maybe all the time, maybe only in specific situations if you prefer roleplaying close to the books Geralt...)
