Armour and Weapons

Hey guys,

I keep watching the gameplay trailers for The Witcher 3 and always see Gerald with the same armour and the same two swords. My question is:

Are there going to be other kinds of armour and weapons for the player to use? Is there going to be character customization?

Oh yes. The customisation will be even bigger than in TW2 I think.

Yo bro!

I just finished watching the gameplay trailer myself! Serendipity ftw!

At the moment we see Geralt using the same shit over and over again because that's the armour and weapons that PR wants to iconify with TW3. Standard marketing stuff. It's easier to sell a product in the West using a prominent character with a consistent look. Randomizing him every two seconds could potentially confuse people. Fun fact: Trying to sell a product using a particular tone or atmosphere in the promotional material is easier to do in Japan. Having a strong character on the box art isn't important as it is in the West.

We will be able to get and even craft new weapons in TW3, the same goes for armours. We don't know anything conclusive about changing the character himself. As in hairstyles, beards, tattoos, etc. Though I don't think it would be a stretch to assume that we'll get a chance to change those things as well. At least I hope so. But there's gonna be a lot of different weapons and armours so that's awesome. I hope they're utilizing Dark Souls approach of equipment upgrades. I hate having to switch to a "better" armour if the aesthetics of it doesn't appeal to me. It's a false dichotomy as well. We CAN have both. Developers need adapt FromSofts ingenious way of upgrading the stuff we want to use. It's a great way of making ALL weapons and armours relevant, even in the end game.

Thanks Foggy, that's good news I haven't really played any rpg's outside of Bethesda's work, so I wanted to make sure this wasn't the kind of rpg that just cares about story and environment. Some rpg's don't let you have new clothing or non generic weapons, Zelda is a perfect example of this.

Of course we are going to have armor options, like the first two games.. Actually, i would like to see Geralt in a TW1 style armor and a witcher style armor with a heavy chestplate..

Even though i like TW2 and TW3 armor styles, i kinda miss TW1 armor style.. Why can't we have all three? :D

Thanks guys! Nice pics, is it just me or is Geralt a light armour skirmisher type of warrior? I hope there will be helmets, cross bows and such.

Not having played any of the previous games, does this series feature vampires, werewolves, and any traditional monster types or are they mostly entirely original?

Can't wait to sink my thumbs into this game!

Here's a little bit of concept art with what you might expect in TW3.

(Taken from here, a nice compilation of everything TW3 by sidspyker)

Of course all of this is subject to change, but just to get an idea.

EDIT:
To answer your other question, yes there are werewolves and vampire like creatures along side other original or adapted monsters. For TW3 we know for sure there will be a werewolf somewhere in some woods, judging from interviews with the devs.

Witchers are renowned for their agility and fighting with quick reflexes . You won`t get that with heavy armor . I doubt that will see Geraly using any bows or crossbows as he is a skilled warrior trained in expert swordfighting abilities .

Indeed, expect swords for the most part, also judging from stuff we've seen so far, there are variants on the armor he'll wear (anything from chain mail, to even plate), but it tends to be on the light side, Geralt needs flexible armor for the fighting style he adopted.

Cool! Any news on being able to become a werewolf or vampire? Probably not due to him being a witcher/monster hunter? Would it be silly for him to become what he has hunted for so long?

Highly unlikely of anything like that happening.

I don't recall hearing anything about Geralt being immune to stuff like that, but aren't they categorized as diseases? And since he's immune to disease due to his mutation, I would think he is also immune to lycanthropy and the sorts. Just an idea of mine.

In some games like Skyrim, they are diseases, but they are sometimes featured as curses or hexes. Just like a magical spell to afflict people with, such as sending a demon after someone.

A witcher is also a curse lifter . Therefore I would think that if he even thought he was being afflicted with a disease or curse then he would take the precautions necessary to avoid it . Just in case you were wondering . This won`t be a Skyrim or Oblivion clone . The Witcher is based on a series of books written by a famous Polish writer A. Sapkowski . If you are interested in reading some of the fan translations you can do so At this link . For the books that are officially translated in English there is no fan translation .
