In all seriousness though, I loved that they've gone back to the series roots.

The creative director insists the game will implement Arno's rise from novice to master. For me that element has been missing since AC1. Let's hope he's not lying.

I would love to see a return to that type of story arc, though to be honest I'm more interested in Arno's relationship with Elise and how that will impact his relationship with the Assassins.

Ezio trilogy, AC 3?

Technically Alitair was a master assassin, just stripped of official rank.

I was wondering if he was going to be established as a novice or higher up at the beginning.

In AC2
Ezio didnt have the proper mentorship, he didnt follow the creed that much and was oblivious to the existence of the other assassins until like the 8th sequence. Mario, who was pretty influencial in his career just trained him to use a sword and tbf he already knew all he could teach him. Apart from that he was pretty much on his own before he got suddenly initiated into the order which was quite unexpected. All the ppl who aided him acted like they had some big role in his development but they really didnt do jack.

In ACB and ACR he was pretty much the boss of his own branch of assassins

Ah, being properly mentored, just a misunderstanding then. Still not bad for being self tutored for the most part. :p

Looking at the previous page though I'm kind of digging the customisation. I really hope this game turns out good. Bloody fingers crossed.

I wouldn't worry about the game not being good, but not as great as it is marketed as.

I've find every AC that I have played to be great in their own regard, but usually found myself disappointed by certain features that were supposed to be grand and deep during pre-release but ended up being rather lackluster (e.g. customization, crafting, quest types, etc.)

Well, yeah. It's kind of like being on a rollercoaster, but for me it's been going down since 3. Not to say they didn't have cool things in them: AC3's antagonists+Haythem Motherfuckin' Kenway. AC4 being pretty fun though detached from what it really is, granted the piracy gets old. Story was okay, until the ruins of The Ones Who Came Before nonsense.

Story all went downhill since AC1

shame to see all these interesting settings go to waste with simple revenge stories.

no to little discussion on politics or anything good.

Maybe they'll go with the one a lot of fans keep asking for/the one I can't believe they've done yet.

Feudal Japan.

I imagine that we'll see a game set in China or Feudal Japan soon. I can't see why they wouldn't, they are easily the most requested two settings by fans.

Not about Unity, but still about the series - I began my first experience with the franchise yesterday with AC2. I'm still at the beginning, and it took me a while to understand how the controls worked (the weird-ass icons that represented actions, rather than keys, don't help). But so far it's actually OK. I was expecting something dull, but at the moment I'm cautiously enjoying the game.

Depending on my experience with 2, I'll decide whether to check out the other games. I understand that 2 had the strongest story and characters?

Enough with collectibles, though. I know that it's a 4-year-old game, but it's still pissing me off. These things need to be eliminated from games.

No AC1 did. AC2 writing was rather juvenile most of the time.

Better writing in 1, less monotonous gameplay in 2, and watered down in later games.

If you hate collectibles you're just going to love this franchise. /sarcasm.

Revelations (which is part of the AC2 cycle) had the strongest storytelling. And it wasn't juvenile at all imo.

I have high hopes for AC Unity given the fact that the creative director of Revelations is also the game director for Unity. :)

Edit:
Collectibles are really a plague in recent Ubisoft games. Both AC4 and Watch_Dogs imo suffered a lot from this "systemic" approach to gameplay. But I fear that it will be the same in Unity...

Watch Dogs suffered both from idiotic collectibles and side bullshit that was un-fun. Indeed.

Revelations was probably my favourite story-wise. It helps also that there were technically no out of animus parts. :p

The game is delayed and comes out on November 11, just for my birthday.

I don't even take that for granted. It's Ubisoft. I think they are capable of delayed the PC version for another few weeks shortly before Nov 13th (I already have to wait two more days since I live in Europe)...

The game comes out two days late for the companies home continent? That's backwards, has it always been like that?

That's the usual practice of most big publishers now. Don't ask me for the reason though. Maybe it has something to do with traditional "release days in the week" in different continents or whatever...
