Exterior lighting looks bleak and dull from the videos I've seen. Idk if that's the case when you play the game yourself.

There is no denying the art department did a stellar job and should be commended for it. A person who spends [insert insane amount of time] singlehandedly putting together a huge gothic cathedral does not deserve to be let down by the technical staff and the game directors.

Oh the art direction is fantastic. I wouldn't necessarily blame the technical staff since they don't decide on the release date.

Who I do blame is Ubi big wigs and whoever was in charge of certifying the game to go gold.
@slimgrin: gameplay is more or less the same. I'm not crazy about some of the maneuvers simply because I don't feel all the way in control. I.E. I plan on running around chimneys and Arno might decide to jump on the instead.

The combat is harder. Not a whole hell of lot, but it is an improvement. I have probably died more times in this game than all others combined. If you have seven plus baddies surrounding you, you might die.

I don't think, they were necessarily let down by the technical staff. Usually I rather assign blame to artificial time or budget constraints given by publishers, so that developers could only do the best they could in a certain amount of time.

Time and budget constraints aren't always artificial. All products have expected sales and market windows, and the market window for games is notoriously short. It's the game publisher's business to know these and to set budgets that allow the sales of the game to provide a return on investment and schedules that allow the game to sell at the most profitable time.

Delays and overruns add cost and reduce the value of the game. Too many of these do not result in better games because the developer has sufficient time and budget to finish the game to their own satisfaction; they result in publishers losing money and dropping developers that lost money for them, and developers laying off, going out of business, and producing no more games at all.

Sure, but we can't rule out, that too much was expected for the time and money provided. Something is wrong, when games selling 4mio copies are considered failures though. I should have focussed in my point more on the "we don't know the reason" point though.

Holy Fuck the end of sequence 9 or 10. Most cringe worthy voice acting(English) I have ever heard. I truly did not understand cringe until that part, did they have another VA come in just to do that part?! My Gods.

Update

Story
Finished the game the other night the story is so meh. It's not terrible but nowhere near good either. Leave it to Ubi to make the French Revolution more boring than a history hater reading about it. The game hardly takes advantage of the time period or the people in it. As for Arno he is Ezio 0.5 because he takes a step backwards. Take away Ezio's charisma, care for the brotherhood, and make him French. This is a recipe for Arno. Story can get convoluted and sometimes does not explain things properly which is very annoying. Modern day story, you never come out of the animus, hooray! The future segments are quick and aren't as annoying as I thought they'd be. Actually one of the three is in the past. Templars and assassins are both very uninteresting this game. At one point halfway through there is a boss battle that feels like it should mean something but it doesn't. It's stupid, if you have played you'll know.

Controls
Awful. Most AC games are pretty tight in handling but Christ alive. Want to get through a window? Too bad, Arno wants to climb all around it. Oh you wanted to jump down and not on the adjacent building? Too bad. The free run overhaul was a great idea in theory but I would have been happier with AC 2 or 3 free run handling.

Graphics
Art design was pretty stellar, maybe the best thing in this game. For shame the texture quality is piss poor. Next gen!

Other Activities
Don't feel like playing the main game for now? Don't worry there are a TON of sidequests: Mystery murder cases, Paris stories, cafè missions, the other cafè missions, nostradomus enigmas, co op missions, co op heists, and chests, cockades, and artifacts to collect. They are all repetitive as fuck.

Customisation
Now people want to feel a progression into an assassin, understandable. There are now skill points you must earn to learn skills and "skills". That's right from the get go Arno doesn't know the master skills such as: sitting on a bench, throwing money, or stabbing an enemy on the ground. In this installment you can also pick your armour. Some of it's locked behind missions or objectives and other through club competitions(forced co op) want that sweet ass hood? Be social! Or buy helix points(microtransactions)!

Other
Unlike other games where things are revealed on the map via viewpoints or buying maps, there is no option(at least that I know of) in this one. You must walk by it on the mini map just to have it pull up. Even after you beat the game.

I don't even know if I will be able to finish the tedious amount of sidequests, as it feels I've hardly put a dent in them. On the brightside I probably won't play Rogue or any other AC game for the matter. I AM FREE!!!!!!!!!!

Skipped technical stuff, because everyone already know. Played this on PS4.

7 Reasons 'Assassin's Creed' Is the Least Playable Game Ever

This article cracked me up. Nothing like a good old articulate and sarcastic rant.

---------- Updated at 09:19 PM ----------

"When do you normally stop to play a smartphone game? Is it when you're already having fun? No, you stop to crush candy when you're bored, or in the middle of bullshit, or otherwise wish you weren't doing what you were doing. Ubisoft has created software to simulate the symptoms of sucking, on top of a game that is already sucking."

Hah! Gold.

So every person who bought the game before today will get the season pass for free.
The people who bought the season pass before today can pick a game (Far Cry 4 or The Crew, notably).
(patch 3 is out, patch 4 is on the way)

I'm actually impressed. Surprised, and impressed. It was a real apology, not some half-hearted "We're sorry you're such an entitled bunch of pricks" message, and appears to be a real compensation.

Agreed. But then again this is one of the biggest blunders and not just the technical side IMO. I think I'll pass on that free season pass. If able I'll give mine away to someone on here.

just damage control. devs who give a crap don't release games in that state.

Got a *cough* legit copy today.
Running at 1444p, all high, msaa 2x, bloom and at times it goes up to 45 fps in the assassin church it went as low as 25. Never had it go bellow that but I haven't played much either. The textures are all over the place, the faces look like cardboard cutouts while the interior decoration looks like you're there. Full texture rendering for 1 street at a time, far off buildings look great, buildings 2-3 streets away look 8bit. Absolute shite view distance of 10 meters infront of you.
Arno bugs out very often, I crouched my way to an early grave off a cathedral just cuz he got stuck in a gargoyle for some reason.
Combat is replaced with a system that makes the last one look a masterpiece.

Played with the settings and managed to squeeze in a extra 15 fps, guess 45 is the best I could hope for in this mess.

The newest patch fixes 300+ bugs, I'm surprised it was shipped in this condition in the first place.

Christ! Is that what it's coming to these days?

Need to look up and see what they were, I haven't ran into that many(unless Arno jumping on shit I don't want him to or forgetting how todrop down counts).

I did see a funny one my last session days ago where a man was running away but while in the sitting animation.
