Specs:
OC 3570k
Evga 970 SC,
8gb ram

Running the game with everything maxed out (including hairworks) except sharpening set to low.

And I get somewhere between 35-60 fps. Which is acceptable to me.

Pre-1.07-8 patch I got 35-60 FPS as well everything on ultra save for the hairworks...But now I get that but with horrible stuttering due to the latest patches...The game's unplayable for me with these patches...I wish I knew what they tweeked so I could un-tweek it!

AMD Phenom II x6 1055t 2.8ghz
AMD Sapphire R9 290x 4gb 1440x900

After some time with NG+ I must say that my performance got much worse somehow. Before I could play completely fine in 1440p with HBAO enabled with most stuff on Ultra/High with some exceptions. But now its nearly unplayable with these settings. Inside the barons castle I get around 40 FPS with these settings while before I got down to 50FPS worst case in the swamps before.

Question, can anyone tell the difference between shadows on low and ultra. Does it maybe require a game restart, because at 1440p setting them to low I get an extra 10fps(from 32-35fps to 42-45fps) and I can't see the difference at all, beyond maybe perhaps that is a very small difference. Am I just going crazy or is the difference really that small/non existent (note: this is only for shadows).

No, I think it's pretty well known that shadows from low to ultra has barely a distinction, it's best to just keep at low.

Something seems off, I have a 2500K at 4.4, and a GTX 760 SC with an additional 50mhz OC and 8gb ram, and I run 1080p with the following settings.

Textures Ultra

Foliage Visibility Medium

Grass density high

Water Ultra

Terrain Quality High

Details medium

Background Characters low

aa on

dof on

chromatic arberration on

vignetting on

blur off

motion blur off

sharpening off

light shafts on

bloom on

hbao+

vsync on

unlimited frames

full screen

hairworks off

I'm also running sweetFX, no ini tweeks

I get 35-60 FPS average of 40-45 most places.

I think its know the biggest performance killers are obviously hairworks and foliage visibility, I've also heard background characters and shadows really have no differences between low and ultra so best to just set at low.

Textures Ultra
Foliage Visibility Low
Grass density high

Terrain Quality Ultra
Details Ultra
Background Characters low

dof on
chromatic arberration on
vignetting on

motion blur on
sharpening low
light shafts on
bloom on

vsync on
unlimited frames

SweetFX + YALM

Result:

I get 60FPS constantly outdoors except during rain, foggy areas or in Novigrad which drops to 45 - 50

I'm pegged at 60 fps with flickers to 58/59.

i7 4790K 4.0 OC to 4.5 (multiplier only)
EVGA GTX 970 (no OC)
16 GB 2400 ram
Dell IPS Monitor 1920 x 1200

VSYNC = On
FPS = 60 Locked
1920 x 1200 Full Screen
Hairworks = Off
Background Characters = High
Shadows = Medium
Water Quality = Ultra
Grass Density = High
Texture Quality = Ultra
Foliage Range = Ultra
Detail = Ultra
Hardware Cursor = Off

Post Processing:
All On with DOF = Off

Is there a known low fps location?
Screen shots from any known low fps location would be helpful to verify.

I felt I had worse performance myself, but after a friend decided to reinstall the game he said he got much better performance. I recently did and I think I at least got another 5fps out of it. About 40-45fps in Novigrad is not bad for my specs I think.

Use this mod : Hairworks on everything but Geralt ( http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/165/? ) for best performance solution with HairWorks turned on.

I can't stand playing this game without hairworks... geralt's hair and beard just looks so bad without it. But the FPS drop is quite big, even with 4x AA.

I wish it was possible to have the look/textures of hairworks without the actual part that drains performance.

Thanks, I've been looking for this. How much does this tank FPS? Normally I get around 10 fps loss with hairworks as it is
