BEX problem

I just bought the witcher enhanced edition today off steam and installed it. I've had the BEX error and I've tried many solutions online such as upgrading my video card and windows, also tried verifying the game off steam and many others. Is there anything else anyone might suggest. Thanks

The only thing i can find on BEX has to do with the DEP (Data Execution Program). Have you installed any codecs packages recently .

I dont believe I have but I could be wrong. And I did try the DEP but i also could of done it wrong since its my first time ever doing it. Would it help if I had both the witcher and steam on Admin when I do the DEP?

Some background:

DEP is "Data Execution Prevention". It's protective technology, which is part of both the CPU and Windows, that allows only properly set up code to be executed. Even though this is a Good Thing, so many programs are so badly written that they cannot coexist with DEP, and the default setting is "essential Windows programs and services only".

BEX is "Buffer Overflow Exception". Unfortunately, it is a meaningless message, because all DEP errors are flagged BEX. (In 64-bit code, you would see "BEX64".)

Since the fault occurred in a system DLL (MSVCR80.DLL), the first thing to check is system files. Run

sfc /scannow

from an administrator command prompt.

Also, you should get a fresh copy of DirectX from Microsoft, at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 as messed-up installs of DirectX are a common cause of crashes to desktop.

If you want to change the DEP setting, it's at Control Panel->System and Security->System->Advanced System Settings->Performance->Data Execution Prevention.

Bummer. What had you installed, recently, before you installed TW2? Particularly anything to do with audio/video media, as one known cause of these errors is codecs that hitchhiked in with another program.

I have the Witcher 2 and it still plays fine. I just installed the enhanced edition from steam for the first witcher because i lost my cd for the first one. And I haven't really installed anything of late unless it was from Steam.

Just turn off DEP, it can cause more headaches than prevent fires.

Actually i had a problem with BEX and a Steam game Deus Ex - HR this morning . After looking in problem reports and solutions i noticed another issue with MP Telemetry . The 3 times Deus Ex crashed was within a minute of and directly after the MP Telemetry issue . After uninstalling MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) and installing Avira Free antivirus no more BEX issues with Deus - Ex .
