There are footprints, just no blood on the ground.

Why do you say they have 0 performance impact? Looking at Footprints or EBT (Enhanced Blood Textures) in Skyrim for example, they are tricky to get right, require cleanup to prevent save game bloat and increase the "weight" of scripting to install and mange them and (especially when done in higher res) can start having serious VRAM impacts. Now maybe CDPR's engine will be much better and avoid all these issues, but that's not obvious. Don;t get me wrong, I'd like to see these effects and many others in the game, but these things can have a serious performance impact and getting around the impact can take some seriously clever development work.

I can easily imagine there are some features which had to be (temporarily I hope) removed to make the game stable and playable on the machines they spec'ed it for. Ideally these will be added back in (either before release or in an update) as the developers can spend the time to optimize them so that the game is stable and playable at a decent frame-rate with them in. If not, perhaps some clever modder (not working under a deadline and a budget) will figure out a way to do so.

But to say that features like this have 0 performance impact doesn't seem right at all.

That should be a pretty quick fix for some moderately talented graphic artist to fix in a mod if the engine is correctly placing the decals themselves.

Footprints (which are really just decals, unless you're talking about say the kind of footprints Uncharted 2 used for its snow) and blood decals are very very tiny performance impact in terms of required data to use.

They are literally 2d decals, and most of the time in games they "disappear" after "x" time which makes them take little/no performance compared to other things.

You are talking about things they could do back in the 90's on much muuuuuuuuuch lower end machiens.

Hell look at the Myth games (The RTS games by bungie). They had PERMANENT decals, physics, etc that lasted for the entire match of a game or level, which could be over an hour. This was mid/late 90's, running on a Voodoo graphics card and an amd k6 266 processor (that's why I ran it on).

Good News. CONFIRMATION THAT LACK OF BLOOD DECALS IS A GLITCH

1:20

It appears for a split second then disappears, but there is a blood spatter on the ground. It is obviously a glitch.

4:20

Decals here seem to appear from bodies once they die..but not from individual hits. I think its a glitch.

I really, really hope you are right. If this gets adressed all they is left to fix is that really unfinished looking meditation screen. It's just a bunch of empty (wasteful) space now where there used to be a window where you could see Geralt and the lighting change in real time.

After that I can finally calm down. :)

But seriously, now I am just hoping that they fix the blood situation FULLY. I mean, there used to be a ton of blood that would spill when you cut enemies in half but now there is nothing but red paint on the body.

So if it was a glitch, we need CDR to do something about it, right? I'm waiting and do hope they will do anything to fix that
and they have to be informed about this glitch, i think

@statmonster2 - I'm no developer or modder, so you're talking mostly gibberish to me. We're not talking about persistent footprints and blood splashes. These are mostly handled with several seconds of duration, that's it.

Look at the PAX video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c514jP4hbJI), look at 5:07, 5:10. Geralt gets hit twice, every time making a blood splatter on the ground. These disappear quite quickly, maybe too quickly. But that's how it's usually done. Same for the footprints.
Now I know this must sound arrogant from a layman, but problems you're describing seem more like an incompetence rather than objective problem of the feature. Games use this for years with no problems whatsoever. It's like bullet holes in FPS, nothing more. Unless you're talking about persistent, in which case ignore the last sentence. No need for someting like that though.

Well, the blood splatter at 4:20 is not there at first because the guy just got slashed open.. it takes a few seconds for the blood to pool out from underneathe their body.

Yep, definitely looks like a glitch, now let's make noise to make them fix it!

You're talking about blood puddles, this topic is focused only on blood decals which result from hitting enemies (hence the therm blood splatter), not killing them.

Yeah I am noticing that when enemies are split in half, no blood really come out lol. In e3 2014 there was a lot more.

So-

Blood from punching=too high
Blood on ground=too little
Blood from Slicing in half=too little
Blood launched into air from horse combat=too high

Jaysus....get yer blood fx back on track darn ye!

Let's not get carried away with our wishes, this topic's focus is and will be that goddamn blood splatter which is not present in the game on some enemies.

I've watched a good number of gameplay videos. I've seen in some that there is blood splatter that remains on the ground when it comes to monsters/animals. Especially wolves.

But with humans it doesn't.

This ain't a hardware issue.

A few pages ago people were speculating the blood decals coming from wolves but not humanoids was a bug, have we ruled that out yet? It's possible those things were fixed before it went gold. So all there is to do is to wait, imo, or see if anyone can be bothered letting us know.

Might've been fixed, but so far on every gameplay humans or drowners still don't have blood decals coming out of them during a hit.
