Blue Screen of Death after Patch 1.2

So I have been getting the Blue Screen of Death occasionally now when I start the witcher. It occurs when I press the "launch game" button on the first menu that pops up after clicking TW icon. I've gotten it twice now in about 3 or 4 start up attempts. The following information was given in the technical information section of the first BSOD, which occurred on Dec. 21:
Technical Information:*** STOP: 0x0000008E(0xC0000005, 0xB5BFDA32, OxAC6E4B14, 0x00000000)*** atksgt.sys - Address B5BFDA32 base at B5BFD000, DateStamp 46ea7ad5Beginning dump of physical memory.

You should seriously think of running memtest86 to check for problems with your memory sticks

Ok i've done all I can to figure out how to use this memtest86 program and I can't get it to work. I put the ISO image on a CD using nero startsmart, telling it i want it to "burn image to disc." When i restart my computer it just starts up normally and nothing happens. Why is this happening? I went into bios and made sure my boot device priority had CDROM first then hard disk. I'm pretty confused.

Look this page, it will explain you another way to create a boot cdhttp://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/

Wow, heh. Yeah that basically doesn't help me at all. I know absolutely nothing about making boot images. The file that I downloaded from memtest86.com gave me an .iso file and from what I can see I also need a boot image file which is .ima... I am so lost at this point that I am basically giving up unless someone can work a miracle.

http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B903251&x=19&y=11Anyway atksgt.sys is the tages driver. So its probably not the virus.http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb204861.aspx#Analysis_of_a_minidumphttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/315271/

http://oca.microsoft.com/en/mtinst.exeHere, use this one, you can either make a floppy or, a boot image with the utility included :)

ok i don't have a floppy drive and all of these programs want me to make a bootable floppy which clearly will not work in my situation. nero's bootable CDROMS won't work for me because they require that .IMA file or something and the program that you gave me just gives me another .iso file which is the same thing i had before...

still isn't working. here is what my CD's look like:Memtest86 v3.4BOOT BOOT.CAT MEMTEST.IMGWindiagI386 WINDIAG (with no apparent file extension, very odd) this happens when i tell nero to burn image to a disc, and choose the .iso file that i got from memtest or the program you gave me. is this correct or what?

I just got the same error...different addresses, of course. I fetched the 1.2 patch almost right after I installed the game, so I don't know about before/after difference. I also get errors about needing to insert the original The Witcher DVD. I think I've seen another less serious, non BSOD program exit error. I'll paste it in if I see it again. Is it all related to the stupid DVD copy check? What a ridiculous concept.I had 2 in game crashes while trying to finish up ( I think) act 1 right before I fight the beast. I needed to power down manually, I couldn't find a way to get control of the box. Anyway, the second time gave me a pretty nasty error: C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\software was corrupt . I had to use the recovery console to trash the registry files.I feel like asking Atari for my money back. Every other piece of software works on my box, why can't this?

I STILL GET THIS ERROR! I either get the blue screen or the copy protection says "Please insert the original CD".I noticed that original poster and I have similar hardware: I have XP sp2, Athlon 4600, Nvidia 7600GT. Could there be problem with some of this hardware?

OK So I performed the steps in the WIndows maintenance guide:http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=5333.0And I am able to launch the game (yay)However my GeForce 7600GT is out of commission...my monitor stays black and says 'no signal' when I boot with my LCD monitor connected via DVI to the card. Fortunately I have on-board video, when I put the monitor on VGA through that< I can see!So did The Witcher bust my video card? LOL ...is it possible it worked it too hard? The card does not look damaged. No burst capacitors.I suppose it could be my motherboard or maybe the DVI interface on the monitor itself, I should test the DVI by hooking the monitor to another PC.
