Bottleneck problem

FPS stays the same no matter what settings I run the game with. Ultra and Low have no difference. What is the problem?

Specs:

ATI HD 4890

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Processor 3.00 GHz

4GB RAM

Any ideas what's bottlenecking me?

Thanks in advance.

Something must be malfunctioning. On this spec you should be able run it on high. I have a little bit worse CPU and a little bit worse GPU and TW2 run smoothly on high.

On Ultra with VSync and Ubersampling turned off I get around 20-30 fps in Flotsam and around 30-50 in the forest. Same thing with Low settings.

Any ideas?

Two points, at high resolutions (1680x1050 and above).

1. AMD QUAD CPU at 3.0ghz is bottlenecked around 40 FPS.
2. Your GPU will also be bottlenecked around the same speeds.

Best play the game with resolution lowered, rather than playing the game in high resolution.

I suggest try playing the game in 1600x900 resolution, in window (disable fullscreen option) and play the game in ULTRA (with ubersampling disabled)!!!!.

-Edit-

bump the post if it helps, please!.

(some of the users just disappear without a trace, when the game starts to function properly with suggestions..so please reply to the thread if it helps..TY bro)

I'm playing at 1280x1024. My monitor can't support any higher.

His system shouldn't have any problems on low settings and he should have way more FPS than 40. Especially playing at 1280x1024.

I guess so. Still Witcher 2 is the only game I'm having this issue with.

Sorry if I missed it, but what version of Windows are you running? When was the last time you did a fresh install of your OS? Do you typically do a dirty update of your GPU drivers, or a a clean install? Also, what model is your motherboard? You know that performance related issues are very hard to pinpoint simply because the variables are immense. But let's start with the basics and move on from there!
