Brock vs Wolf? A bug?

Brock vs Wolf? A bug?

I believe that most players have noticed this if they bothered with potions.

Brock increases the chance of critical effects, has negative effects, a large Toxicity value and needs more ingredients to create than Wolf which increases the chance of critical effects even better than Brock, has no negative effect, a small Toxicity value.

So is there any reason to use Brock except for an added effect AFTER already using Wolf?

Is this a bug? I believe that we are missing something here because the Journal entry makes Brock sound like it should give a larger bonus than Wolf but the numbers actually tell a different story. Wolf gives bigger bonuses.

So thoughts? Am I missing something? Can anyone from CDPR comment on this? Is this a bug?

I'm guessing that I'll get my answer soon enough when the X-Box version of the game is ready {it's almost 100% certain that they are going to fix some things that remain after 2.0 patch when releasing the X-Box version of the game} but I want to know if I missed anything.

In the manual this potion is called "Badger". Here's a quote of what's written in the manual:

"Considerably increases chance of causing critical effects, for Igni incineration and for Aard knockdown."

It might actually affect these spells in addition to criticals inflicted by swords but it's difficult to test since the chance for spell critical effects is hidden from us in the game.

the potions are very unbalanced in TW2. first thing you don't need alcohol as a base to make potion, that made potions very rare and valuable in TW1, in TW2 you can make as many potions as you heart desire and when the toxic bar is almost full and your using lets say.....rook,vigra and swallow and you have no negative effects, now that's OP. rook, vigra and swallow could kill you in TW1.

all in all im saying that the alchemy system in TW2 is not as good and complex like in TW1,its far to simple and there are bugs and balance issues.

If you check the Journal you'll notice that it mentions more effects than the actual descriptions.

In there Brock AND Wold have additional effects but still Wolf is better. Something is definitely wrong.

Brock is for spells, wolf is for critical effects.

I just checked this and you are correct. Strangely Wolf has +32% to Igni and +15% to Aard while Brock has +15% to both. The only sense I can make of this is that either what's written in the journal is incorrect or perhaps Brock is there in order to allow you to get even more bonuses to your criticals but at a serious penalty to your resistances, making Brock still useful.

Brock description reads: significantly increases chance of causing critical effects.

Wolf description is different: increases the accuracy of special attacks that cause critical effects.

They seems to be going about causing critical effects in a different way. But there needs to be more elaboration on this. Gab961111 may be right. Perhaps special attacks in this context should read signs.

I've tested this in arena and it does seem that I stun enemies with Aard and Incinerate with Igni more often while using either potion, and even more so when combining both.

this, I used wolf/stammelford/petri or tawny as an alch/magician and wolf coupled with the igni upgrade triggered the incineration almost every time.

Here's what I interpreted from the game files:

Wolf in the game files is called "Blizzard" and Brock is called "Concretion".

With 0 points in Catalysis(the talent in alchemy which increases potion effects):
Wolf: 1.15 multiplier TWICE for Igni incineration and 1.15 multiplier ONCE for Aard knockdown(32% Igni, 15% Aard).
Brock: 1.15 multiplier ONCE for both Igni incineration and Aard knockdown(15% Igni, 15% Aard).

With 1 points in Catalysis:
Wolf: 1.05 multiplier for Aard knockdown(32% Igni, 21% Aard).
Brock: 1.05 multiplier for both Igni incineration and Aard knockdown(21% Igni, 21% Aard).

With 2 points in Catalysis:
Wolf: 1.05 multiplier for Igni incineration and 1.15 multiplier for Aard knockdown(39% Igni, 39% Aard).
Brock: 1.05 multiplier for both Igni incineration and Aard knockdown(27% Igni, 27% Aard).

It seems to me that Brock should have gotten Wolf's sign critical stats and vice versa, as well as 21% to all 3 crits(incineration, bleeding, poison) with no points in catalysis, 27% to all 3 crits with 1 point in catalysis and 39% to all 3 crits with 2 points in catalysis.
