[BUG]I encountered two frustrating issues in the game

+
The first one is that when ray tracing is enabled, the game will crash and go black (the game will go black for a moment and then die) when using the in-game screenshot method. I tested it multiple times, and it has nothing to do with the GPU load. Even if I use a very low resolution, the problem mentioned above will occur as long as ray tracing is enabled and a screenshot is taken (there is no problem when ray tracing is disabled).

The second issue is that when playing in windowed mode with path tracing enabled for ray tracing, the game will crash randomly and prompt to send local information. (I played for a long time in full-screen mode and did not trigger this random crash issue)

------

I guess it might be a problem with the 50 series graphics card. The computer that had the issue was using a 5070ti. After switching to a computer with a 4070s graphics card, using the same image settings and the same version of the graphics driver (and running at full power), the problem described earlier did not occur.

------

The graphics driver version on both of my computers is 576.28 - WHQL.

0.) Are you using any mods, or have you ever used any in the past?

1.) Can you send further system specs? Like so:
AMD Ryzen 5600X
16 GB RAM, DDR4
Geforce 3060, 12 GB VRAM, DDR5
1 TB SSD
Windows 11

2.) What platform are you using (GOG, Steam, Epic, etc.)?

3.) Are you using any form of aggressive antivirus (Norton, McAffee, Comodo, etc.)?

4.) Are the issues reliably recreated, or do they appear random? If reliable, list the steps needed to produce the issue.

4. Screenshot crashes can be stable (as long as the ray tracing option is turned on in the game)

That's probably the source. I've been seeing lots of issues cropping up with the 5000 series across a number of games. I doubt it's anything wrong with the card, more likely the drivers. I'd keep them updated as new versions come out, and maybe fiddle with capping the FPS at 72 or 60.

I would not recommend rolling drivers back, as can often clear up issues that suddenly appear, with the 5000s being so new on the market. But you can give it a whirl. I would just ensure that whatever version you fall back to officially supports the specific model of the card you have.

Huorong Internet Security
Can't rule it out. If the game's .exe and installation directory are added to the exclusions list, it should not be interacting with it, but it's still possible. Disabling it completely while playing may have an affect. (Worth a shot, though my money is on the drivers for the 5070.)

Be aware there is currently an issue with Nvidia Drivers crash 30, 40 and 50 series cards. Gamers nexus just completed a video on it a month ago that you can view here.

Fixes include but are not limited to:

  • Changing display/hdmi port you are plugged into on the gpu
  • Disabling frame gen
  • Disabling gsync
  • Disabling DLSS
  • Lowering FPS of any second monitors
  • Disconnecting second monitors

But the most effective solution of all, which instantly fixed it for me?

Roll back your driver. I went back to like 475 and have not had a single crash or black screen since. Currently on a 3090. You will probably lose 5 - 10 frames of performance though unfortunately, thank Nvidia for releasing broken drivers month after month and not fixing the issue until tens of thousands of people give proof that they are lying about everything being fine.

NVIDIA's latest driver information acknowledged the existence of one of the issues, but it hasn't been resolved. It's really disappointing.

Just roll back.

Normally, I won't upgrade drivers unless there's a need. Older drivers are often perfectly viable for at least a year or two. When a new, demanding game is released, it may be a good idea to upgrade, but it's not usually necessary.

Drivers are built around new current games and techs. While new drivers will likely offer the best performance for newer games, the opposite is often true after a certain amount of time -- they'll degrade performance on older games.

In general, update drivers if you're seeing a problem. If not, leave them alone. Everything is working.
