Bug Report. The basilisk dies instantly when falling in the water

So I am level 15, the basilisk must be around 10 levels higher since I was barely doing any damage then I took out my crossbow and shot him down; the basilisk fell into the river - he is still making noises but can't do much else - and I can't loot the monster either.

I'm lvl 6 and the basilisk is lvl 14 It was a battle between a hawk and a frog with a needle(jumping around/quen/hit/repeat).... and I wasn't careful enough not to shot him near the water.........not loot but you get the experience points.
