Bug Tracking Megathread
Please report any bugs you find to CDPR here. Also feel free to leave a comment with your bug here and I'll add it to the list.
I'll be using this post to list and provide information for all of the bugs I encounter in the game. All of these bugs have been experienced on a PC running Windows 8.1 and the following hardware specifications: 16GB DDR3 RAM, Nvidia GTX 970 GPU, Intel i7-4790k CPU. Feel free to comment with any bugs you've encountered and I'll attempt to reproduce and list them. Bolded bugs are potentially game breaking.

Keybinds
- If an action is bound to the ' key on a keyboard, in-game prompts instead display the action being bound to the þ key (English localization)
Appears to be fixed as of patch 1.05
[*]If an action is bound to the middle mouse button, in-game prompts instead display the action being bound to the þ key (English localization) - If an action is bound to the \ key on a keyboard, in-game prompts instead display the action being bound to the [ key (English localization)
Appears to be fixed as of patch 1.05
[*]Rebinding jump from the space bar to another key fails to change Roach's jump key bind; Roach will still only jump with the space bar. - Binding the menu option to the backspace, C, E, Q, S, and space bar keys breaks functions they are hard-bound to that cannot be altered
- Several keybinds cannot be altered, but other actions can be bound on top of them, causing the original function to no longer work. C is hard-bound to sheathe, but can be bound to open the menu, crafting tab, glossary, etc, and will no longer sheathe swords. Should be controlled via the keybind menu.
- Backspace is hard-bound to the menu. The keybinds allow players to choose a keybind for the menu, but this is in addition to the backspace key. If players assign the menu to backspace, it will rapidly open and close the menu and fail to work as intended. The menu keybind should be exclusively controlled via the keybind settings and not hard-bound to backspace.
- X is hard-bound to view deck leaders in the gwent deck builder and to activate their abilities during gwent. If the X key is bound to the menu, this will fail to work as intended. Instead, these functions should map to whatever the stop horse key is, (as this is by default X)
- The space bar remains hard-bound to menu dismissal (either in-game tutorial pop-ups or interface tutorial pop-ups), the take all button while looting, passing a round during gwent, zooming one level out of the map and buying and selling items. The dismissal, loot all, passing during gwent, zooming out of the map and buy/sell buttons should map to the character's currently bound jump key (since spacebar is the default jump key)
- E remains hard-bound to the fast travel, disembark ship and forfeit confirmation (during Gwent). These actions should instead be controlled by the player's interact keybind
- S remains hard bound to the stop ship command, this should instead be controlled by the player's stop horse keybind
- During games of gwent, Q remains hard bound to forfeit. This should be controlled by a remappable keybind.
- In the tutorial screen, movement keys are always displayed as WASD even if they have been rebound. This applies to the Climbing, Ladders - ascending and descending, dodging, rolling, movement, horse movement
- After saving Bram in White Orchard, a pop-up tutorial asks the player to open the menu using the backspace key, even if it has been assigned to a different key.
- If the . key is bound to an action, in-game tutorials display the key as ¾ instead.
- If the / key is bound to an action, in-game tutorials display the key as ¿ instead.
- During the Gwent deck builder mode, the tutorial says to use the 1 and 3 keys to cycle between decks, which can fail to work if either of these keys are bound to the menu button. These should be controlled via customizable keybinds or blocked from being assigned to the menu.
- In the tutorial entry for casting signs, the last sentence says "To select a Sign, you can use the keyboard shortcuts [Aard keybind] to [Axii keybind]." However, this doesn't make sense since the player can rebind Aard and Axii in any order an not necessarily use the number keys. This also doesn't make sense for players who use a controller.
Text Errors
- In the bestiary under the Mourntart entry, the section reading "would all him to" should read "would allow him to"
- During the Carnal Sins quest, the subtitled conversation with the doctor in the sewers reads "You damned idealists, ruining the market for us witchers." However, Geralt does not actually say witchers, he just says "...ruining the market for us."
- In the laboratory notebook, the phrase "quadruple does" should be "quadruple dose"
- During "The King is Dead, Long Live the King," during the conversation with Crach on the castle roof, under the "Thought all giants died ages ago" dialogue, one of the subtitles incorrectly says "Thus I though to ask you" instead of "Thus I thought to ask you"
- When speaking to Fatso's gang during the quest to help the Puffins, one of the subtitles is incorrect. It reads "Now what you doin' in the city of the eternal fire, catshit?" when "the" is never spoken. The correct subtitle should be "Now what you doin' in city of the eternal fire, catshit?"
- During the quest Carnal Sins, the coroner has dialogue where he says "treaties" but the subtitle instead says "treatises."
- The armorer in Kaer Muire has several incorrect subtitles. When greeting you, he says "Greetings. Wanna look over our stock?" Then "Sure, if you can afford it. The jarl's a stickler for quality, so we keep no rubbish here." However, the subtitles say "Greetings. Care for a glance at our stock?" and then "Arms shouldn't lie around, collecting dust. Certainly not if one comes around who'll put it to good use." His subtitles from the "What else do you bring back from raids?" dialogue option are also incorrect. He says "We focus on the essentials. Fancy wines, silk, baubles of all sorts. Oh, and wenches. For if we don't make proper use of 'em, who will? Have you heard about Hollerin' Hulda, known as the Hellraiser, Madman Lugos' wife? Or Goldilocks Sanza, the most beautiful woman in the world in her time? Taken in raids, both." but his subtitles instead say "Essentials, mostly – fancy wines, silks, valuables of all sorts. Oh, and wenches. If we don't make proper use of 'em, who will? Heard of Hollerin' Hulda, known as the Hellraiser, Madman Lugos' wife? Or Goldilocks Sanza, world's most beautiful maid in her time? Taken in raids, both."
- During the first dialogue with Udalryk during the Possession quest, Geralt's subtitles read "Cerys. Where's Cerys." When it should read "Cerys. Where's Cerys?"
- At the end of the possession quest, when Cerys chides Geralt, his response's subtitles read "What can I say. You've seen through us all." The first sentence is missing a question mark, and the second is not actually spoken. The correct subtitles are "What can I say?"
- When speaking to Skjall's ghost, some of the subtitled dialogue is not actually spoken. The subtitles read "I have a name. Skjall! Skjall! I am Skjall!" But he actually says "I have a name. I am Skjall!"
- The Larvik armorer's greeting subtitles are inaccurate. The subtitles read "How can I help you? Turbulent times - don't pay to skimp on weapons." But he actually says, "How can I be of service? In times like these, don't pay to save coins on weapons."
- After having Triss decompress statues you find, she says she's tired and could "sleep till I woke." However, her subtitles incorrectly read "sleep tile I woke."
- After defeating Eridin, Geralt says "Said you had something to tell me." but the subtitles incorrectly read "You said you had something to tell me."
- During the "Contract: The Creature from Oxenfurt Forest" quest, Hans of Cidaris says "Know of a monster that needs slaying," but the subtitles incorrectly say "I know of a monster that needs slaying."
- Whenever a sentence in a tutorial prompt ends in an orange-colored keyword, there is a space between the last word and the period that should not be there. This can be seen during the gwent tutorial.
- Under Ciri's character entry, highly-skilled should be highly skilled, and there is a line space missing between the paragraph ending with Source and the next paragraph beginning with Ciri's (the lat two paragraphs when you first get this entry)
- If Geralt allows the scholar in the White Orchard tavern to teach him gwen,t his subtitles read "Hmmm... Why not." But they should say "Hmm... Why not?"
- In the quest log entry for the Kaer Morhen quest, there is a sentence that reads "What could our hero do but bid the sorceress farewell and descend into the courtyard of the fortress." But should have a question mark after fortess instead of a period.
- During the tutorial, Vesemir says he "had her taking notes on "Ghouls and Alghouls" ..." but the ellipses should go within the quotation marks so as to read "Ghouls and Alghouls..."
- During the tutorial, Ciri says "... "by markings, like unto..." but the first set of ellipses should go within the quotation marks so as to read "...by markings, like unto..."
- Immediately after the tutorial, while Vesemir reads Yennefer's note, his subtitles read "We must meet, Soon." ... "Willoughby, near Vizima." ..." but the ellipses should fall within the quotation marks so that it reads "We must meet, Soon..." "Willoughby, near Vizima..."
Quest Bugs
- During Now or Never, Triss still wears her necklace at the docks even if she already gave it away to her landlord. Triss will also wear the necklace during her scenes at Kaer Morhen and later in Novigrad after giving it away.
- During Carnal Sins, the objective to investigate Priscilla's attack site completes before fully investigating all the clues
During Now or Never, Triss can get stuck following Geralt through the sewers and never actually follows himFixed in Patch 1.05- During Contract: Doors Slamming Shut, Amaverik of Serano's journal should be marked a quest item, as there is an objective to read it
- If you take the Nilfgaardian statuette from the dwarf's home during the quest to help Zoltan collect Gwent cards, Geralt's dialogue acts as if Triss is still present in Novigrad, even if she's already left
- During the Carnal Sins quest, the guard and Geralt sometimes clip through gate to lady Vegelbud's residence instead of pushing it open
- Sometimes trying to feed Morkvarg his own meat results in him acting as if you've offered him nothing
- When feeding Morkvarg, sometimes an item will show up both in your inventory and his food panel at the same time, even if you only have one of the food item
- In the cave underneath Morkvarg's lair, some of the bones from which you loot the padlock key remain red after taking the key
- The Cave of Dreams quest will be marked as failed after you lift the curse from Uma, even if you've previously successfully completed the Cave of Dreams quest.
- After completing the battle at Kaer Morhen, Geralt is sometimes unable to use signs. Dropping and walking through a dimeritium bomb seems to fix this.
Doesn't appear to be a bug, CIri can later use her amulet when she's outdoors, she just can't use it indoors.
[*]Ciri is also unable to use her amulet's ability after Kaer Morhen, unsure if this is intentional. - During the Worthy of Trust quest, if you choose to take the swindler to the jarl and he attacks, the nearby clan guards will attack you after the fight is over.
- After completing the Coronation quest, the music stops playing until you use fast travel. Saving and reloading the game does not fix the bug.
- During Reason of State, after killing the Redanian guards with Roche and Ves, sometimes the cutscene fails to play and you are forced to reload to an earlier save. Sometimes some of the guards and witch hunters are passive and can't be attacked.
- During Reason of State, if you choose to defend Roche, Ves and Thaler against Dijkstra, you can't attack or use signs, and enemies can't attack you. Walking in front of an enemy attacking your allies (causing Geralt to be damaged) fixes the issue.
- During the Magic Lamp quest, the objective "Search the room with your Witcher senses" can fail after lighting the braziers in the correct order, even after the objective has already been successfully completed.
- During the Get Junior quest, sometimes the scene with Vernon Roche at the partisan camp won't trigger and the player can't talk to Roche. Some players experience this after having already discovered the partisan camp before the quest, while others have fallen in from the roof and effectively broken the cutscene that way. Supposedly fixed as of 1.06 but many players continue to encounter this bug.
- Saving and reloading during the quest Tedd Deireadh, the Final Age after Yennefer has activated her shield and the white frost blizzard conditions have begun causes both Yennefer's shield and the frost damage to disappear.
- Sometimes during the fistfight with the Captain of the Guard in Velen, the captain will become stuck outside the invisible walls of the fistfighting circle.
- Sometimes players can't take the Empty Coop from woman just east of Honeyfill Meadworks, despite a quest marker on the map and over her head
- After finding the Rusty Key in Tamara's room during the Family Matters quest and using it, a duplicate can be obtained from her room, causing it to become stuck in the player's inventory, (as the duplicate can't be used)
- After burning the corpse of the Pellar's father for the Forefather's Eve quest, saving and reloading can cause the corpse to appear as if it hasn't been burned
- The Faithful Friend quest can become stuck in the quest journal if not completed before the end of the game
Location Bugs
- By the illusion-rocks leading underneath Temple Isle, even after dispelling them some on the right-hand side remain and are marked with the illusion symbol when using Geralt's witcher senses
- The abandoned site immediately southeast of the Ferry Station travel point clears prematurely. It will clear mid-battle with the three ghouls and alghoul after you've killed a few, and before you've killed them all
The question mark northwest of Hanged Man's Tree (where you find Thaler with two rock trolls), never becomes discovered on your map, and remains a question markNot a bug, becomes discoverable affter completing some more quests and returning later.- A bandit camp in the southwest part of Velen, populated by cannibals, does not clear after killing the cannibals and taking the loot. One of the treasure chests repeatedly respawns, even with no loot inside.
- The same bandit camp as listed above has a piece of meat floating several feet above the main tent
- To the northwest of the Inn at the Crossroads in Velen, there is a bandit camp that may have an Enhanced Thunderbolt formula in a chest. However, after picking up this formula, the option to make the enhanced thunderbolt potion is unavailable in the alchemy menu as if you never looted the formula.
- Saving and reloading in Vizima causes some chests to reload.
- The place of haunting just south of Frischlow in Velen with the mining ghost can't be cleared, even after viewing it with the magic lamp, the ghost continues to mine indefinitely and the marker remains white/uncleared
- Sometimes during cutscenes a sound plays as if Geralt is running, and some dirt can be seen being displaced below him.
- The 2D character recap cutscenes (NOT the loading screens) are played at a much lower volume compared to the game's overall audio settings, and can be difficult to hear.
- During the combat tutorial section for the Aard sign, Vesemir is supposed to say "See that Ciri? Aard will knock anyone or anything off balance. Destroy their rhythm." However, his voice cuts off prematurely.
- After installing a new patch or DLCs, the game will sometimes become unstable and crash frequently. Creating a new manual save on an open slot and loading that save appears to fix the issue.
- Some AMD card users report FPS drops that become more severe the longer they play.
- Geralt is only able to craft a single alchemy item, preventing you from creating multiple mutagens, alchemy items, and so on. After crafting an item, it says you already have this item, (effectively treating every recipe like a potion or oil formula).
- Fixed as of 1.06
- Cat school armor is heavier than Griffin and Ursine school armor. At higher levels, it still remains heavier than Griffin armor and only slightly lighter than Ursine armor. Base armor weight comparison: Feline Chest weight: 12.22, Griffin Chest weight: 6.67, Ursine Chest weight: 8.36
- Cat, Griffin and Ursine school armors have the same armor rating at mastercrafted level
- Lesser runestones can't be combined/crafted into higher level runestones
- Players can end up with multiple piles of identical runestones that won't stack, (crafted and found runestones don't appear to stack with each other) some stacks act as if they're not actually present in the crafting menus.
- Geralt will sometimes begin jumping repeatedly with no discernable cause. Quitting to desktop and reloading the game fixes the issue. Quitting to the main menu and reloading does not fix the issue.
- The Gwent card symbol is missing from the Gwent dialogue with the merchant located in Svorlag
- Sometimes you can't talk to blacksmiths and armorers. This appears to occur when you meet them while they're pounding on their anvil. If you wait an hour until they're done pounding, you still can't talk to them. Waiting until the next day seems to avoid this bug.
- Saving your game while it's raining and reloading causes the rain to stop, even though the weather still displays as raining. Quitting to desktop and reloading the save causes the rain to begin again as expected.
- When running through an enhanced dimeritium bomb with the Synergy ability and green, red or blue mutagens equipped, Geralt's stats are increased each time you pass through the bomb cloud. The increased stats are determined by which mutagens you have equipped, (vitality for green, attack power for red, sign intensity for blue)
- Fast travelling can disable waves in bodies of water. Meditating for at least three hours fixes the issue until the next fast travel.
- Equipping the puppet and delusion abilities simultaneously causes the puppet ability to not work most of the time. Changing every instance of IK_YOURKEYBIND=(Action=CastSignHold,State=Duration,IdleTime=0.2) to a value of 0.01 in the input.settings file seems to fix this. Note that the YOURKEYBIND section will be different depending on your current keybind settings, and that there are multiple entries for both keyyboard and controller binds.
- Saving and reloading can cause enemy NPCs to despawn, including important/key-carrying NPCs.
- Geralt won't go into combat mode unless physically near an enemy, preventing him from deflecting archers' arrows at a distance unless there are also enemies closer to Geralt.
- The innkeep at Cunny of the Goose in Velen will restock their scorch card.
- The innkeep in White Orchard (Elsa) will restock her decoy card.
This works, you just need to be careful with numlock if using keypad. Not a game-specific issue.
[*]Geralt can't roll while holding parry, but can dodge while holding parry - In the tutorial and bestiary menus, categories with unread entries are marked with a star. However, after reading every entry, the player must click on one already-read entry to clear the category. For categories with only a single entry, this requires them to collapse and re-open the category before it will be marked as cleared/read.
- Crate- carrying NPCs in Novigrad will sometimes walk sideways and bring their knees up to their chest while walking
- Sometimes loading screens can be interrupted by pressing Escape
- The herbalist and miscellaneous NPCs that appear at the abandoned site (shrine) in White Orchard will disappear after meditating. If you meditate in front of them, they don't immediately despawn, but will not be present when you leave the area and come back. Meditating anywhere else causes them to immediately despawn.
- The Mulbrydale blacksmith freed from the site to the southwest of town can disappear after completing The Nilfgaardian Connection
