(PS: My PSU should have enough power, right? It says on the Nvidia page (and in the specifications of my MSI version of the card) that the card needs a maximum of 145 - 200W and that a PSU with 500 W is recommended, I think I'm good with 550 W right? (how much W does a processor and mainboard normally need? And how much a hard drive? (sorry for the newbie questions))

Your combined system load should be less than 500w with that config but if you go for overclocking both GPU and CPU I would choose 650w PSU to be safe but with stock this is fine. I personally don't know too much about PSU stuff but now that I myself facing PSU issues I am learning it :D

Finished Benchmark test with different programms checking my processor and graphics card in multiple test.
Also loaded up Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes with highest settings, running smooth at 60 fps (well, 59.9 fps) and with a solid temperature of 59/60 °C for almost 2 hours.

If you want a game to test your GPU stability, try Crysis 3. I'm pretty sure very few games on the market stress the GPU as much as that game.

It's actually -50% @ Origin right now. Mediocre game but a great benchmark. :)

lol, that's actually the first game that caused my system to restart :D

If you want more stressing try, Assassins Creed Unity with max settings and DSR. That's the only game right now which shoots my CPU (i5 4690k) usage to 100% and with DSR both GPU's usage also increases to 97%

PC build advice

Need a little advice. I'm trying to build my PC to handle Witcher 3 Wild Hunt on ultra settings. So far I have: Motherboard Gigabyte Z87 X-OC; Video Gainward Nvidia GeForce 970GTX Phantom. Still on my list: Processor Intel Core i5-4690K; RAM Corsair Vengeance DDR3, 2x8GB, 1600Mhz (dual channel). Will this be enough? (also mentioning I don't plan to go over 1080p and I only use 1 monitor)

Some Z87 motherboards will not boot 4th-gen Haswells. This motherboard needs to be at BIOS revision F8 in order to POST. If you don't have an older Haswell CPU in your spare parts, you may be buying a hassle.

Z97's are slightly the better choice, anyway, because they will be compatible through Broadwell.

You got that a month ago? I thought it had only just come out.
So what's the process for getting the code, and who handles redemption - is it GOG or Steam? Some people were asking in another thread.

The GPU? It came out like 6 months ago. The Witcher 3 promotion bundle on the other hand only started and applies to cards bought since yesterday(March 10th)

From what I heard, you get a GOG code.

Well seeing as how NV game Uplay codes for their last bundle(Pick Your path), I imagine it's GOG for TW3.

The weirdest thing just happened. All of a sudden a random error message concerning Panda AV appeared on my desktop, complaining about some missing dll file. And then another. And another. And then several concerning Dropbox and more missing DLLs. Then my firefox.exe seems to just have disappeared. So I fire up good old Internet Explorer to download the McAfee Stinger and see if something has gone terribly wrong. Trying to start the Stinger, it fails, complaining about yet another missing DLL. I want to go back to IE to look for hints on what the hell is going on... and IE doesn't start anymore either.

Reboot. Dropbox and AV don't start, instead more error messages, browsers still not working. I try to restore the system to the last Restoration Point this noon before Windows Updates. No luck. I hastily dig out my external HDD and back up whatever I can before this ship sinks. Meanwhile I start downloading the Win8 installation files and putting together a bootable USB drive on my Netbook.

About 2 hours later, I decide to have a look at how broken my system has become in the meantime (I just left it running all the while). And... Firefox started, again. I try starting Stinger... and it works (and finds nothing). I reboot and Dropbox and Panda start again, no error messages whatsoever.

What the hell was that? I think, at some point - I think it was during restoration - I read my Windows partition declared as F: - which it is in fact not. Maybe that's what butchered stuff. In the Explorer I still could access C: normally, and did in fact not find the missing DLLs where they were supposed to be. At first, I suspected my SSD was failing, but maybe it was some weird software glitch. Bah, I hope it doesn't come back.

Happened to a PC in my lab around 14:30 (Win XP). All non-Windows programs would not run, missing dll's. Also sporting Panda AV. After some restarting, tinkering and making backups my colleague proceeded to reinstall OS . I left so I have no idea how it turned out. I can't even imagine the horror of installing all of those device drivers and inserting measuring parameters into all programs... *shudders*

I have encountered this problem when helping a friend build his PC. Luckily the store I buy my components from is kind enough to update your BIOS for free when this happens so I will go to them if I run into this problem again. Also my budget is limited. Normally I wouldn't be able to afford even a Z87 but I found this one on a special sale by blind chance. So a Z97 is out of the question.

If you indeed are in Slovakia, 14:30 seems to be around the time I had trouble, too. Weird. And another PC with Panda AV, too. What happened there? A horrible update error? Or just coincidence and not Panda's fault at all? :hmm:

EDIT: A quick look at Panda's technical support forums reveals that it indeed is caused by a faulty signature file that just goes nuts and quarantines all kinds of files. Funnily, they recommend not to restart your computer until a solution is available. As if that's not the first thing anyone has tried when encountering heavy trouble.

I wonder if Valve knows what they're even doing with Steam Machines. I mean the descriptions are screwed over, they organized the various machines not by capability or price but by name and they don't offer enough info for those of us that can build a PC on our own.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5jNZIwNBgE

Among that pile of crap the Asus one is the only one that has good value.

Steam's web page design has been a gigantic clusterfuck for years. Don't let that sway your opinion on the various machines, which I hope with a passionate fervor, hasten the decline of Sony and MS consoles.

I did check them all out and I talked about that in video.

Price wise none of them except the two I mention are worth a copper of your coin. I very much doubt these machines will destroy MS and Sony.
