Calm the wounded Elf with Axii sign?

I am in bottom of ship and have to calm the wounded elf with the Axii sign so the witch can heal him.
Whenever I press Q or 9 I also draw my sword and the guards go nuts! so that option is out.

So there is an icon that comes up with a little pic of the mouse showing that I have to press left mouse button.
I do that holding button down. Eventually the sign stops and the elf groans like crazy and the witch says "focus or you'll kill him. Lets try again."

Heck, I have tried about thirty times and still its the same scene all over again: 'focus or you'll kill him".

How many hours do I have to do this?

You need to press the left mouse button repeatedly rather than holding it down.

And you're right about Q and 9. Don't use them.

Well at least you didnt press 9 a couple of times before you saw that mouse icon on the screen like someone /inocent smile.
