Can Geralt/Triss/Yennefer hair be realistic as this?

I came across this video of hair physics. My jaw officially dropped. Would really be nice if i can see Geralt/Triss/Yennefer hair as realistic as this:

Your thoughts?

That's tessellated.

Which means performance is hit hard by it. Obviously it can be done and I do hope we get good hair in TW3 NOT just for Geralt but for others as well ( I am tired of seeing so many bald characters in TW2 ).

Man, look at that date, November 2010.

The progressing technology is still awesome, but still not having things like that in games makes me a sad pc user.

Well most games are held back because of consoles. TW2 is included. Will be interesting to see the next-gen consoles stuff faring. At least PC gamers don't have to suffer..

TW2 was held back because of CDPRs resources with building the game. They did start making it after TW1 which was in 2007 and they did have to make the engine as well from scratch so you can't fault them for not incorporating technology like this at the time considering their game came out in early 2011 and that video is dated November 2010.

Well i'm not blaming them for their technology.. but i certainly cant deny certain aspect of the games (skills, UI, controls) are designed with 'consoles' in mind.

Yeah as said.. although it's been posted since 2010.. it'll really be interesting if we can see something like that for all the characters in Witcher 3? If just few selected characters having it .. it may break immersion or out of proportion.

Damn! Nice find op, can't believe that video was from 2010! I couldn've sworn it was some next-next-gen shit right there. Crazy stuff.

I wouldn't mind having that in the game but honestly, it's just tech. I'd rather see RED focus on developing the story, engaging us in the open world setting, immersing us in the lore and refining the combat. I mean it's just hair. It does look impressive but not a priority for me.

There's a reason why you only see on head and nothing else in this picture. Just imagine The Witcher 2 + this technique. Current pc's just can't handle this. I guess http://kotaku.com/5986952/thank-amd-for-the-best-video-game-hair-ever/gallery/1 will be the next step.

Tessellated hair would be impossible with many characters on the screen unless you want to make a game only available for NASA and their computers.

What is this then?

Well it does have a reason. In medieval times they had a lice issue thus lots of people cut off their hair to prevent it..... Or if you want to blame the company: CDPR felt it was an easy way out.

Something completely different (from a technical point of view) ^^

A single head in an otherwise empty space. Now there's a game around it. See the difference? ^^
Plus the implementation is technically totally different. Nvidia did something with tesselation, which is far too demanding for application in a game, even with today's hardware, while AMD found a viable implementation via Direct Compute.

So to see that

in a game, i have to wait again 3 years (or another console generation), great...

Stop teasing me Nvidia :(

Nvidia made a lot of great videos presenting their technologies, but most of them was never used in practice. I don't know where the problem lies, but somehow devs don't want to use their technologies.

This is from 2 years ago?

BTW, AMD just announced their TressFX hair rendering technology present in the Tomb Raider reboot.

They always develop for the lowest common denominator and that was the 360 at this current generation, why should they develop a better version of the same game for another plattform? That would just cost more money.

Even PC exclusives don't use their technology. PhysX exists since 2005 and only 15 big games used it. Also we often see games that are better on PC. Square Enix said that Tomb Rider will be looking way better on PC and they even added this hair thing which is also PC exclusive.
