Can I turn off the mini map and all the hand holding crap in The Witcher 3?

Watching the reviews they all go on about the mini map, having waypoints and the dumbed down combat...

1. Can I turned off all that crap? I just want to follow my own way in the world and work it out myself. If I'm given a quest, I want them to describe what I have to do, then find it by exploring the world. There is nothing I hate more than just going from waypoint to waypoint.

2. Is it possible to make the combat hard like The Witcher 2? So far I've just heard how it is dumbed down and not as good, how the game is too easy now. The Witcher 2 was my favourite combat system in a game like this, I died several times in my first encounter as I tried to work it out. I grew to love it and would hate for it to be shallow and easy now.

Thanx.

1. You can disable every single interface / ui / text / etc

2. On the highest difficulty level, a lot of preparation is required to defeat strong enemies such as wyvern. (probably also packs of drowner/necker) items that counter a monster special ability will be pretty much required to defeat them (such as silver bomb to disable werewolf HP regenaration) Also the monster will do alot more daamge and you will do less.
On the lower difficulty these things will be helpfull but not required

1. Yes.

2. Play on Dark. May not be AS hard, but they have promised it will still be very challenging.

You can turn off the hand-holding but the question is if NPC actually give proper directions to objectives. Any reviews go into depth about this?

benzenzimmern can you please confirm what I said (that on the highest difficulty you need to look at monster weakness and use those weakness to defeat them or if you dont it will be pretty much impossible) ??

It would be nice if there would be an option to disable the floating damage numbers as well, CDPR. Maybe a thing for the day-one-patch? Thanks for consideration.

Can I also turn off all the button prompts, especially in the PC version?

Nothing is impossible, I bet you can discover any monster weakness by just trying different things. It's just a matter of time.

It was a bit harder than hard, (does that make sense?).

dark mode was hard as the hardest difficulty in game, minus the death penalty, in witch if u died u had to start the game over again

Cool, thanx.

Was worried after seeing all the reviews, the exact reason why I stopped playing MMOs, but I'll definitely be picking this up.

After the huge disappointment that Dragon Age has become, really hope this fills that RPG itch I have. I don't get why Bioware couldn't just make Dragon Age Origins again, Inquisition didn't even have the isometric perspective or healers... weird choices with that game.

This is what concerns me the most. Many games these days are designed with the assumption that you will follow a marker and therefore neglect giving proper descriptions either through the journal or the questgivers themselves. I loved how you sometimes have to get additional info from other NPCs for quest to properly identify the location or general direction you should venture.

There was an "Insane" mode, which was the same difficulty as Hard, but had permadeath. Dark Mode was technically slightly more difficult, but in practice a lot of people found it easier - they'd already played the game a few times, and the special Dark Mode equipment sets were slightly OP.

Yes, but button prompts are everywhere, also in the menus and inventory.

What I loved about EQ2 when it was released, you had to read the quest text, it would often be quite poetic and cryptic. The quests were there to tell stories and have fun, not to be level grinds and it is such a shame that game has all been changed to follow the crap WoW laid out. Now all you get is "go here, kill 10 of these" and you follow the waypoint because the quest text gives you no information other than that.

On another note, I really wish all retail games would have Steam keys, the prices on Steam for launch games are ridiculous. You can get them at retail for almost half the price, sadly though a lot of the time they aren't Steam based games :\ Steam is where I want to buy ALL my games, if they aren't on there, I just don't buy them. I see no value in having my digital games spread out over several services, especially since all my friends are on Steam. Not having a game on Steam would be like being on the PS4 and having to purchase your games through Origin instead of PSN.... like nah.

I'm just gonna have to wait for a Steam sale now, all the retail keys are gog based.
