Watching the reviews they all go on about the mini map, having waypoints and the dumbed down combat...

1. Can I turned off all that crap? I just want to follow my own way in the world and work it out myself. If I'm given a quest, I want them to describe what I have to do, then find it by exploring the world. There is nothing I hate more than just going from waypoint to waypoint.

2. Is it possible to make the combat hard like The Witcher 2? So far I've just heard how it is dumbed down and not as good, how the game is too easy now. The Witcher 2 was my favourite combat system in a game like this, I died several times in my first encounter as I tried to work it out. I grew to love it and would hate for it to be shallow and easy now.

Thanx.

put the game on dark, turn off your screen, and play while someone is peeling off the skin of your back
that should be hard enough

benzenzimmern can you please confirm what I said (that on the highest difficulty you need to look at monster weakness and use those weakness to defeat them or if you dont it will be pretty much impossible) ??

You’re asking if Hard is hard?

This is what concerns me the most. Many games these days are designed with the assumption that you will follow a marker and therefore neglect giving proper descriptions either through the journal or the questgivers themselves. I loved how you sometimes have to get additional info from other NPCs for quest to properly identify the location or general direction you should venture.

The German 4players review touches upon this. At least in one case an NPC gave directions to an objective using landmarks like ponds and boulders to guide the players without the need for GPS. There is hope, after all.

Full quote:

No I ask if what I understand from all the information that is currently available: that on the highest difficulty setting, you will be pretty much required to exploit the enemy weakness or else it will be really really tough, is correct.

I am basing this on the stream that they did last week where even a skilled player who knows all the skills inside out, gets rekt by a strong monster such as griffin or whatever it was that he fought.

Also what happened to permanent death? is it an extra toggle when starting a new game like it is in diablo 3?

It would be nice if there would be an option to disable the floating damage numbers as well, CDPR. Maybe a thing for the day-one-patch? Thanks for consideration.

Yeah. When a monster comes running at me out of the woods, I want to experience a monster running at me - not a floating neon red health bar and creature title. One makes for realism, the other is a direct denial of immersing believability.

Can I also turn off all the button prompts, especially in the PC version?

Fuck, I hope so.... I fucking hate button prompts on consoles too!!! Patch an off option for that crap too please.. After I know how to get on and off my horse, I no longer want to see that shit pop up on screen.
Just let all gamers turn crap like that off in this REAL GAME. @Benzenzimmern ;)

Does anyone know if one can toggle the map on and off with a keypress on the pc?

I'd like to have it off by default but be able to bring it up (and off) with a key.

Also can people stop calling game elements “crap” on the official forums? You may not like this mechanic but this is still CD*Projekt’s work. I do not want to use it personally and that does not make me calling it crap. Thanks.

Please, please tell us once and for all, is there a permadeath mode or not?

Would a permadeath mode really be viable? Maybe it's just my western sensibilites...but man, pouring in 100 hours into a game, to have it delete your entire run because you died...sounds crazy to me. I'd lose my mind after the third or fourth death.

I'm always a bit baffled when I see people describing the combat in TW2 as "hard".

The best way I have found so far to make the game (Witcher 2) more challenging / fun / slow paced is to stick with the first armors in the game, just use one the cheapest and stick with it to the end... And by any means craft the special armors in dark mode... they are hugely OP.

Wimp. If you were truly hardcore, you'd play it barebacked, armed only with a shovel.
(I did try, but gave up when I couldn't find a shovel in Flotsam. That's my excuse anyway)

Just two things to say...

1- I meant DON'T craft the special armors, they are OP

2- Find me a silver shovel to go along the steel shovel and you just gave me an awesome excuse for another playthrough... haha!!!

Awesome. There aren't a lot of games out there that doesn't include forced hand holding. :D
