Can the TW3 retail version be activated on Steam?

I see one of my local stores still has a limited edition of The Witcher 3 for an okay price. I was thinking about getting it, but I wonder if I can activate the game on Steam and download it there instead of installing it from the disk. Does anyone know?

Steam is an independant platform, as for Origin or uPlay. They don't share the same licenses.
But CD Projekt RED owns GOG.com, where you can enter the key of a retail version on your account and there you go. You can download the game from there or the GOG Galaxy Client I think. You also have an access to a lot of content, as the soundtrack in MP3 and FLAC, trailers in HD lightly compressed, that kind of stuff.
