I just hope they don't forget their roots with the Witcher 1. I wish they spend more time developing their cities, hubs, and even the countryside. I loved both the soundtrack and the atmosphere in the first one. Just incorporate that with the deep political and personal story and it'll be a one hit wonder.

I hope not. I don't think that means what you think it means.

They're going to be a many hit wonder. :)

And yes, I think it'll live up to my expectations.

These guys managed to catch lightening in a bottle twice, no reason to see that they can't do it a third time.

They just have to maintain the highest of standards established in their first two games, that unerring sense of purpose and direction coupled with cutting-edge tech, original art design, and the finest writing in the industry. Should be easy.

As long as they don't do a 'Bioware' and remove everything which is good about the game for the sake of 'streamlining', and turning it casual and action-oriented for the hyperactive XBOX-kids, I think it'll be all right.

Stick to minor technical tweaks; expand the story; go even further with the cool little immersive features like gambling, fighting, and romancing; expand the social aspect between characters; fix up the combat and crafting even more; and make a long bloody game that'll last forever!

Edit:

Also, include a bloody drinking game!

I think they'll do ok. As long as they don't get bought out by greedy douchbags like EA and they keep their freedom they'll do fine.

Personally, I'd like to see a mix of TW1 and TW2 in the third one. The best elements of both.

I'd like to see a lot more C&C with dialogue. Talk is cheap by video game standards, so it shouldn't be hard to give a conversation more flow than we currently see in games. And there should be more of conversing too. Geralt should be able to take a break, go for some drinks and philosophize with his friends.

One more thing: they really have their work cut out for them in TW3 questwise. The Northern kingdoms are being invaded by Nilfgaard. Geralt can have the choice to comply with the invader, conspire against him, side with underground factions that are in turn pinned against each other and so on. My bet is a second and even nastier empire will come into conflict with Nilfgaard and offer to liberate Temeria, but it will be at a price. If you live in Warsaw like CDPR, you'll be all too familiar with that sort of thing.

Considering I would give TW1 10/10, had huge expectations for TW2 and they actually surpassed them, I am not worried.

I think it can as long as they don't make the same mistakes bioware did with ME3. I don't want them to turn it into a generic action game.

I think as long as TW3 builds on what made TW1 and TW2 great, it won't disappoint me. It's this new trend of some games "streamlining" that usually causes drop in quality.

Two recent examples of games that seemed to streamline as the series went along are Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3. Both seemed more compact, streamlined versions of the originals.

So as long as TW3 isn't basically TW2, but with streamlined features and around 10 hours shorter, then I have faith CDPR will produce a gem.

Most likely it will live up to my expectations if it is their game, made the way they want to make it, without any interference from armchair developers who say it has to have this or that technology, or this or that user interface feature, or from amateur critics who proclaim the dumbing down of the industry.

CDPR tells stories in game form. That's what they do best; if they tell a good story, they made a good game. Let them do their job, which is exactly that and neither more nor less.

Exactly what Guy N'wah said.

As a matter of fact, I don't like most of some gamers' suggestions, because, if followed, they would lead us to an entirely different game. I trust CDPR to do their job as they know best.
I do like their narrative style; I do like how every choice you make bears a consequence, even if the moment it was made seemed to be nothing of great importance; and, I do like how choosing one path over another is not being made quite clear to the player. Which means, if you fail to notice it then you are not paying enough attention to the [game] world around you.

I would lie if I said i'm not worried: They split up the team and are making 2 (huge) games simultaneously. Also, they went multiplatform and above all, they set the bar really high with "The Witcher 2".
Gameplay-wise I can't see them go wrong, only better - not because the first two installment were bad from this aspect, simply because both games had pretty decent gameplay with flaws that can be polished/tweaked relatively easily. Basically all they have to do here is "just" to keep what is good and tweak/expand what is imperfect (alchemy, minigames, etc.). On the other hand, it's obvious that they'll have (or having now) a hard time working on the storyline. With the many different endings of Witcher 2 I have a feeling that we will get a entirely new story - loosely connected to the previous one - again like it was with Witcher 2 which can still be great.
So i'm not getting my hopes up too high until I get to see the actual game but I will be incredibly happy if they'll succeed again.
After all, who else if not CDPR? :)

maybe if i had the sight, like cedric, i could provide an absolute answer.

i will say this. if its a hybrid of the 1st two games, in all aspects, then i would tend to think yes.

I'm not too worried. CDPR seem to be very careful when it comes to changing the formula - I know not everyone here agrees, but I liked most of the tweaks made to the gameplay, as well as the massive overhaul to the combat, between TW1 and 2, and the overall feel of the world and the story has largely remained intact. I don't see why they can't pull this off again with TW3, especially given that they don't have a huge corporate publisher with its hand up their collective butt like a certain other company.

Or maybe it's just that I've learned not to get too hyped about games anymore in general. As much as I love TW2, it's not a perfect game, and there are things that could've been done differently and would've worked just as well - and that's good, because it leaves room for a worthy sequel.

Long story short, every developer eventually jumps the shark and CDPR will too, but they've still got plenty of good games in them until that happens.

To be honest this is my concern as well. Do they really have enough talent to go around? Will one game take priority? And the limitations of multi platform development are a concern as well, although both will be on next gen consoles I'm sure.

Fallout 3 was a good game, despite the dislike of some old fallout fans over the changes. You also forgot Tiberium Wars ( Command and Conquer 3 essentially ) which was awesome.

I'm confident they'll deliver story-wise and expect some (hopefully pleasant) surprises in the gameplay department.

Combat systems, itemization and economy have been quite different in the two games so far, each with their own negatives and positives. Maybe in the third one they'll find the golden formula.

TW2 is my favorite game ever and the best story that was told, imo, with some of the best characters I've ever seen.

So yes, it will be very hard for TW3 to rival or surpass it. But I have faith in CDPR that they will make TW3 at least as good as TW2. Now if they manage to make it even better, I will be positively amazed.
