Cannot install PS4 base game with DLC on PS5

+
Hey folks, could a mod create a new thread for me? I don't wanna spam 10 threads just to do so. I have an issue which I believe is an oversight. The code for Phantom Liberty DLC that comes in the retail box, doesn't work for the digital PS5 version that you install from upgrading from a PS4 disc.

Basically I run the PS5 free upgrade (from PS4 disc), and purchased the DLC from cdkeys. It's sucesfully redeemed to my PS account, it's installed to the hard drive, but it doesn't show in the game. It seems the PS4/PS5 disc upgrade version is somehow different from the PSN PS5 version, and therefore the DLC isn't compatible? That's my best guess

I'm 100 hours in, and finally ready for the DLC, but both Sony or Cdkeys are not being any help at all. Surely the DLC code should just work with any of the PS5 versions? If anybody could help I'd be so grateful, feeling absolutely short-changed by cdkeys, despite (in my eyes) it's their fault that they didn't test the DLC compatibility that they sell

Hi,
Annoying :(
If you didn't, you really should directly contact the support ("contact us" button).
There is no dedicated category, but this one should be fine ;)
Also, check this in case. Not familiar with PS, not sure the country/region could be a problem in your case.

This seems to be cropping up here and there. I'm not sure where the actual problem lies.

The problem may lie with either CDPR or Sony's marketplace (...or both.) I'd recommend sending this directly to CDPR Support as a ticket. First, just be sure you've followed the steps here:

If there's any further problems with that, use the "Contact us" button at the bottom of that page.

Considering that dlcs codes need to be the same playstation region as the base game is played on, it seems risky to me to rely on a website like cdkeys. You can definitely contact support and ask them for help, but frankly it does sound more like a cdkeys issue to me…

That is also very true. Grey-market sites like that will be hit or miss. Still, if purchased for the right region, it's still something that should work. (They really need some laws around these sites. Sketchy doesn't really cover it, sometimes.)

Thanks for the tips, I got excited when you said put the data disc in, I've always used the Game disc, but it appears the same on the dahboard, and then just asks me to insert the game disc to play (I use CUSA-16579 btw). And thanks for showing me where the contact button is, I couldn't find it previously.
The CDkeys picture of the code they sent when purchased had french on it, so I guess there's a chance it's not from an EU copy (Canada maybe). It's def their fault, they sold me a code listed as EU and UK, without saying 'oh btw it doesn't work with CUSA-16579' but they're being quite unhelpful. And yeah, I wish I would have just bought from Sony direct, but at the time it was about 35% cheaper 😏

Unfortunately, things like CDkeys, G2A, Kinguin, and so forth are technically resellers. There's all sorts of muddiness around this, especially online and internationally. Resale of a redeemed key is technically illegal, but things like giveaways, drops on livestreams, selling accounts, or acquiring keys for sale on a different marketplace is perfectly legal. (That's more or less exactly how Steam, GOG, Epic, etc. work.)

In the end, though, CDkeys is its own marketplace with its own rules and policies. If it doesn't work, I'm not sure there's anything that CDPR or Sony could do -- it's very unlikely that CDkeys is under any sort of contract with studios or manufacturers. Hence, their products are "as is." Any return or warranty offered by official platforms is null-and-void, as the products were not purchased by authorized dealers on an official marketplace.

It's weird. Hence "grey market" -- like a garage sale, or a lemonade stand, or a bunch of kids offering to wash your car. The keys offered are usually legitimately purchased, often during sales or from parts of the world where regional prices are lower, then priced at that same point for other regions, which is why they're often much less than the present price on something like Steam. (They're not "black market;" the keys are not outright stolen from anywhere. While that does happen from time to time, the grey sites tend to clean it out if it's discovered.)

Sorry that it went sideways for you, but if CDkeys is not willing to refund or exchange it, that's probably where it will stop. It wasn't an authorized sale of an official product. You're stuck with their policies. :(

But -- you can contact CDPR and ask! Can't hurt.

(Also, credit to @devivre for pointing out that this was a CDkeys purchase. I glossed right over that when read the post.)

Yeah I was hoping it would be something simple that CDPR could fix, simply making a DLC download work with a disc release, in my head there's just a tickbox next to a bunch of base products it works with, perhaps they missed CUSA-16579 off the list but who knows. Usually CDkeys have been fine in the past, ordered tonnes from them over the years without issue, but that'll come to a stop now, they have no customer care when something they advertised doesn't work as intended. Oh well 😏

I wish you the best with it. Hopefully, they'll be willing to work something out.
