Can't break combat, climbing. Troll Cave. Bug?

I'm in a cave with 3 trolls which i quickly snuck past to grab a bear armor diagram. I'm trying to get out so I threw a samum bomb to blind them so I can run past and out of the cave...but combat initiates and I can't get out because the cave requires me to climb over a ridge to get out, and I can't climb due to combat (stupid).

Is there a way to break combat...I try sheathing my swords but the game thinks that I want to punch stuff instead of just wanting to climb(stupid).

The game constantly tells me that Trolls are peaceful if left alone...How am I supposed to get past these guys without slaughtering them? Also, they are pretty lethal if I do take them on but I really rather leave them alone. Is there some other stealth tactic that I am too dumb-witted to understand how to use?

Well, if anyone cares I ended up slaying them but i'm not happy! God damnit, Trolls have been my friends throughout the game, I really wanted to let them live. Joe, Jesse, Dodger...you shall be remembered my good friends. Damn you CDPR for forcing my hand onto my trolls friends! CURSE YOU!

Well, just had another encounter where I could of made good use of climbing while in combat to get to safety but instead I ended up pinned on a cliff in a crevice unable to climb out, so I was stuck getting harassed by harpys with no way of climbing out to a higher point with better area for movement.
