Can't get 60+ Fps with GTX 980

I think I got some serious bottleneck going on or I don't know what is going on.

Every settings is set to ultra besides foliage view distance is high, shadows is high and nvidia hairworks is off. I am lucky to get 60 fps. I usually hover around 50 fps. This is very annoying.

PC specs:
i7-4790k
gtx 980 g1 gaming gigabyte
16 gigs ddr 3 ram ripjaws.
Windows 7 64 bit.
1200 wat corsair power supply.

I seriously don't know what is wrong. Could it be the latest batman arkham knight drivers causing the problem?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS-TB5grYuI watch this video. He has the same PC setup as mine, but he is using an i5 while I have an i7 and he gets 40+ more frame rates then I do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS-TB5grYuI WTF!?

I have the same graphics card as you and get similar performance at 1080p, I should think this is pretty normal. I'm running 353.06 driver, my only suggestion is try rolling back to this driver version.

Have you seen that video I posted? How does he get a constant 80+ FPS?

I get the same performance as the guy in the vid. Try rolling back the driver and double check the in game settings. Turning foliage from ultra to high made it jump from ~60 to ~90 fps.

Maybe it has to do with something with my nvidia control panel settings?

Me specs:

i7 - 4790K 4.00 Ghz
EVGA GTX 980 ti, 6 GB GDDR5 VRAM
16 GB DDR5 RAM, 2133 Mhz
Windows 7 x64

Performance is somewhat different for everyone. I can get 75-80 fps everywhere with everything maxed to Ultra, Hairworks On, but uncapping my frames results it really annoying microstutters, even though fps remains constant. So I run with Frame Limit set to 60. Smooth performance everywhere. With Hairworks Off, even smoother yet.

I have also tweaked shadows beyond Ultra. Your rig is so close by comparison, I can't see how it can be suffering from 50 fps max. Have you edited your user.settings at all? Are you overclocking any hardware?

Yeah, I can also get smooth 60 fps with everything ultra, and hairworks on. I used to have foliage distance on high, but I made some ini tweaks, and now I can have even foliage distance on ultra, and stays at 60 fps. The only time it drops below 60 is when the camera zooms in to Geralt's hair, but since the camera is so close, it's not an issue.

GTX 980 (overclocked to 1450 MHz boost clock)
i7 5930K at 4.3GHz (overclocked)
32GB DDR4 RAM
1TB SSD

EDIT - My ini tweak resulted in low shadows, and that's why I was able to get 60 fps. Now that shadows and everything else is on ultra, with hairworks on, I get around 50-58 fps. Weirdly though, it's not causing any stutters, and feels smooth. So I'm sticking with this for now.

My 7 yrs old rig can get almost all time 60fps.
Can get drops but nothing too bad concidering my old rig.
shadows and water are on medium, also hairworks off. Everyting else ultra @ 1080p
i7 920@2,67ghz, 6gb ram, gtx970 g1 gaming

had started it on ps4 but couldnt handle the fps drops on console, just awful.
was surprised my old pc can run it that well. Just had to upgrade it with a gtx970

stop thinking that high end graphics card are in any way capable of delivering 60Fps constantly just because they are high end.

And it is only annoying when you have the fps counter on the screen, If you want 60Fps constant disable Ambient occlusion NV hair works.
those are the settings that i can remember from the top of my head without getting into the game that are very gpu intensive.

Turn off Hairworks (occasionally fighting a few enemies that happen to have Hairworks enabled is not worth the fps penalty and stuttering), and don't use the in-game framelimiter. Use RTSS instead. Fixes 99% of the stuttering and gives a nice fps boost as well.

This is an official test made by techspot (because people dont seem to take my word for it)

And btw, I'm running 970, hairworks off, average fps 50 (because I limited it to 55 with RTSS)

First u sould OC your card (best OC is within bios) 1500mhz and +450 on the mem should do it, then mod the game cfg file. I get 65+ in any contiditon with my 980. Doesnt drop below 65fps no matter what. Put all in-game setttings to ultra (except hairworks) and then mod the file. U dont need to put it as read only, only to now mess with the in-game settings.

Heres my cfg file

I get constant 50fps (locked with Nvidia Inspector to avoid the 60fps-limit-stuttering) by lowering the anti-aliasing settings of Hairworks. It dips down when the camera gets very clause to Geralt's head but I don't really care since it's not very often.

In "user.settings":
Code:
HairWorksLevel=2 (or "=1" if you want Hairworks for Geralt only)
HairWorksAALevel=4
& in "rendering.ini":
Code:
HairWorksAALevel=4
Don't forget to set both files to "Read only" in "Properties" before launching the game, otherwise the settings won't be kept.
