Can't import Witcher 3 in Galaxy, it wants to download whole game

Apologies if this is the wrong places, but i simply didn't know where to post this. And since it's to do with Witcher 3, i'm hoping this may be ok.

I'm having lots of issues with Galaxy.

I recently bought an SSD, and i wanted to copy over W3 from the HDD (which is now storage) to the SSD. The game on the HDD is fully updated, latest patch, all available DLCs and extras.
But galaxy simply won't play nice.
I have a physical copy of the game, and since i didn't know if i could copy over to the SSD, i installed it again from the CDs. Fine. I knew it would want to download patches, and i thought maybe i can just copy them over, as my net isn't the fastest and i don't want to download again.
A friend told me about the import function, and i thought i'd give it a go.

What i did is, installed the game via physical Cds to the SSD.
Then copied the whole W3 folder from my HDD and pasted it into the same location in the SSD. I chose 'replace' for all files that were the same. All went fine, and going through the folders, everything was the same.

Opened Galaxy, and it wants to download 18gb. I stopped it, and tried to 'import', only it was greyed out.
Then i googled and there is a plus sign at the top left, and that i could do, and chose the W3 folder. I did this, and Galaxy now wanted to download 10gb.
I then found the Galaxy folder, and pointed it to import from there. Good. Now it still wants to download 5gb.
Fine, i let it. But right after, it now wants to download another 18gb!

I decided to start fresh, and uninstalled W3 totally using the control panel feature. I copied and pasted again, from the HDD to my SSD. Opened Galaxy, told it to import from GOG Games, and it said that it can't find any game folders. So i chose the Witcher 3 Wild Hunt folder, and it agreed that indeed, there was a game there.
Goodo, that went fine. Now it wants to download 37gb! With my speed, this is going to take days, and the game is sitting right there on the HDD!
It says 'installing', but also gives a DL speed and says 'downloading'.

What the hell is it doing? And what have i done wrong? I've googled, and checked and read, and it's all no help. Please can someone walk me through the import procedure, please!?

I had the same problem.
Finally these were the only steps that worked for me so that Galaxy recognised Witcher 3:

- Uninstall Galaxy completely (including removing galaxy files from C:\ProgramData\).
- Uninstall Witcher 3 (No need to delete settings and save).
- Install Witcher 3 base game.
- Install patches and DLCs from standalone installers from GOG.com (I'm guessing you have these).
- Install Galaxy client.
- Open Galaxy client and import Witcher 3 folder.
- This time it should only download a few tens of MBs. (I'm not sure why it still downloaded those extra few MBs. My guess is the installers uploaded on GOG.com and the actual files that Galaxy client downloads are not completely in sync).

The CD's I got when I bought had Galaxy already on them to install. What it did was, installed the game, installed Galaxy then I entered the game code and Galaxy only d/l'ed the patches, which are big enough these days. Patches d/l'ed directly from GOG and those d/l'ed thru Galaxy have different sizes. If you get the method suggested by @aadi4287 working don't be alarmed if Galaxy downloads up to some GB's.

In case it tries to d/l the whole game again, try removing it from Galaxy Library, enter the code and then see if Galaxy downloads only the patches (should say "updating")

I'd recommend following @aadi4287 advice, and download the patches directly from Gog, then just use Galaxy to verify it.
As to what you did wrong (in case you're ever in the same situation again). You can NEVER assume that copying program files from one location to another in a Windows environment will just work. You should always reinstall. Registry entries and other config info will get messed up if you just copy. Galaxy doesn't know it's there (and didn't know it was the latest version earlier) because the registry didn't know.

Thank you for your replies guys, really appreciate it :)

I did a little more investigating on my own, and the game actually works if i start it directly from the .exe (on the SSD).
Everything works as normal, all is well, even mods work perfectly.

So the game does actually work and run, and runs well. There are no issues.

No, i don't have anything for the game from standalone downloaders. I have everything from and through Galaxy. It's never been a problem in the past. So i actually don't know where to get the individual content from (and i mean, everything, not jut the patches), or how to install it into the game.
I know i tried once from GOG, but i couldn't do it for some reason.
So how do i do this? How do i get Galaxy to then recognise this? Just click on 'verify' once the base game is installed?

Yes i know copy/paste isn't the ideal method for doing anything. I just really don't want to download 20+ GB again (patches and extras).

Thing is that when you say through GOG, I think we all assume you mean through GOG website, where you can download patch files individually without Galaxy. Only advantage of using Galaxy, in my opinion, is autoupdate, quick purchase from GOG and the clock. I mean, after almost 6 months playing TW3 almost non stop, how the heck would I be able to figure out that I've spent 1,542 hours of my life on it? In game interface clocks only individual playthroughs, not the sum of them all. Hope my wife never sees Galaxy's clock!

When i said 'from GOG', i did mean the GOG website.
When i said 'from Galaxy', i mean the actual Galaxy client.

I have Galaxy just to try it out, and it makes life easier seeing everything you have and don't have. It's been perfectly fine till now.

I tried to point Galaxy to the Witcher 3 game folder on my HDD (the original location where i copied it from), and it saw it, and added it. But still wanted to download 10gb.

I have uninstalled Galaxy, and i'm just waiting for some enthusiasm to try Aadi's suggestion. Not that i don't trust his suggestion or anything. Just i have no enthusiasm to re-install everything, set everything back up again, as well as put all the mods back... pain in the backside.

Haha, yeah, i know what you mean. Well my galaxy only says 11hrs, lol, because i'm never logged in there when i play. I've only ever seen 2 achievement and 11hrs. But seeing as i've been playing this almost every day since the end of May, i think it may be a little more than 11hrs...

For now, it runs fine from the .exe, so until said enthusiasm hits, i'll just play like that.
