Just in case, might not be useful but look on spam folder, my mail with the cd key was there, and my ISP delete spam after 7 days. :\

The funny thing is that I don't have a product key at all on Steam and if I do have one then I have no idea how to access it...

How do you get the product key?

If you bought the game very recently you probably won`t have one. In which case login to Steam and view your profile and from there you should be able to view purchase history then save the webpage and go to http://www.thewitcher.com/backup/ and click on the right side of the page to fill out the form and submit .

When I follow the link it tells me I already own a Gog copy (I put in my Steam serial # a couple of days ago and the game now shows up under My Account as if I owned it), but when I download it via the Gog DL manager, it downloads everything except the last 300mb's or so--wherein the down load manager begins erratically fluctuating up and down and will never complete the download! It's weird.

Also, inside the dl manager screen, underneath the icon for the W2 download, there's a red box and an exclamation point that says "ID"..."could not get game data" or something to that effect. So at this stage I don't know what to do. I sent in a form of some kind indicating the problem and providing the Steam serial # again.

Any advice?

Thanks! I'd like to see how the game runs and plays outside of Steam as I may prefer to play the game that way.

I got Witcher 2 EE a few days ago as a gift from a friend on Steam and I filed for a replacement key and said I didn't have proof of purchase. Am I supposed to have sent a picture of my Steam profile as proof? I hope they don't deny me a replacement key.

Already sent a request there, but I didn't put in a proof of purchase. Instead I went with the Steam public profile. Just hoping to get a replacement key...

Juri got back to me in a very prompt, courteous, and professional manner, I should say. He's let me know that my particular problem has to do with an update to the gog downloader that should be fixed shortly, so it looks as if all is well! Thanks again for your interest--and I have to say again that I am impressed with the speed and the efficacy of Gog responses!

Thanks again!

WaltC

Edit: Downloaded successfully with the new version of the GoG downloader mgr! All is well! Time to uninstall the Steam version and install the Gog version (not that I expect to see any differences, mind you--it's just the principle of the thing, which is, uh...;))

Edit #2: OK, I have the Steam version and now I've received my free DRM-free copy of Witcher 2 from GoG and I have to say something:

WoW--just WoW! Even with the enhanced version through Steam *presumably* installed and running, I had never seen the EE version's opening cinematic until I installed my GoG version! (I had heard there were more cut-scenes in the EE version of W2, but I had not seen any yet and simply assumed I'd see them later in the game. Was that ever a wrong assumption.)

I have got to say something about about that opening scene in Witcher 2's EE version--the scene wherein the rogue Witcher who is built like a mountain (I don't want to say much more as it may be a spoiler for some people) boards a ship and takes a king's head as a trophy--this is prior to his attempt (not revealing a spoiler here) on Foltest's life.

I've watched this animation--this cut scene--this movie trailer (it almost defies easy categorization) over and over again because I am quite positive it is the best CG animation I've seen in the last 27 years--which would be the span of my business and pleasure involvement with computers in general! It's very simply the best CG I've ever seen, and I really had to look very, very hard to discern whether I was looking at a piece of 100% CG or some FMV performed by actors and cleaned up with some CG on the side! I've decided it's all CG--and if that's so it's incredible!

And to think I almost missed seeing it because of some glitch in the Steam update system I was unaware existed--verifying my game cache through Steam kept telling me that I was "short 1 file" which Steam "would now acquire"...but unfortunately, Steam never did. I cannot help but think that the un-acquired Steamworks file was the opening cinematic in the Witcher 2 EE. If not, that's one heck of a coincidence.

If you are running the Steam version of W2 EE like me, and like me you haven't yet seen that opening cinematic--bust some chops at Steamworks if you have to, but you'll definitely want to see this CG. It really is just about the most life like CG I've ever seen. I've always said when asked about the "goal" of 3D CG (and I don't mean the chintzy glasses--the "fake" 3d, either) that it is to eventually be able to make movies and games that are 100% CG and yet are visually indistinguishable from motion pictures shot with film and live human actors.

You may think that's pure nutty, but this CG comes as close to meeting that goal as I've ever seen--from anybody--Spielberg and pals included. Good Job CDPR! I had to say something about it.

Hello, just a quick yes or no question. Does registering your game via the Witcher 2 Launcher grant you a CD Key?

I need one for GOG as my Vr 2.0 didn't come with one and I cannot get the EE patch to install despite trying all the tips I could find on this board.

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know why some retail copies do not have a serial to begin with?
Mine does not, I bought mine copy of the game around the release date last year. I have no reason to save proof of purchase for that long really, especially when you kinda expect there to be a serial in there somewhere.

Oh well, as long as I have the disks in good condition...

*edit.
Ok, I just read the instructions http://www.thewitcher.com/backup/
Alright then. Perhaps I will do a backup next week.

May I suggest that's possibly because you have 'The Witcher 2', version 2.0? There doesn't appear to be codes on the backs of the manuals due to the lifting of DRM.

---

I have version 2 and there appears to be no code on the back of the manual. I don't have any proof of purchase because I live in Australia; and I am playing an imported retail version of the game rather than the modifed version that was distributed locally.

Nonetheless, I would be very interested in applying for a back up copy.

So please, what are my options?

A purchase confirmation email would do as would a sales receipt . Also if you purchased from an online retailer you should be able to login to your account and retrieve the necessary information .

I got mine. Got it downloaded. Got installed. But the patcher is not working, and the game play is a bit dodgy. Any ideas?? I do have a retail copy of he the first one, but I am really looking forward to playing EE. (
