CD Projekt founders depart, kind of

By Chad George 6:00 pm, Oct. 8th
The founders of CD Projekt, developers of The Witcher series, have officially left the company – kind of. Former CEO Marcin Iwinski and former Director of Business Development Michal Kicinski, who founded the company back in 1994, have resigned for their respective positions and taken an extended leave of absence.Speaking for the company, Hubert Habas has said that the duo have indeed resigned but “they have not left the company.” Instead, the founders have decided to take a more extended period of absence after “finalizing the venture with Optimus and other strategic projects.” Habas is confident that the pair are only stepping back to rest for a more extended period of time in order to avoid burning out.Habas also assured those of us waiting on CD Projekt’s upcoming game, The Witcher 2, that the project will be in no way affected by their departure, as the group working on the videogame “has their own management working independently from the owners.”

You have to admit that the timing leaves a lot to be desired.

Hi all! Marcin and Michal are leaving Optimus. Every part of the CD Projekt and the CDPR for most is and always was autonomically managed. I believe that the statement was clear enough for you, but I'd also like to assure you in here, that there is no way our game or work will be affected.

It's worrying news, but thank you for the reassurance, Alex_I hope that they didn't resign for reasons that can't be known to the public .. (disagreements with publishers, conflict with senior management, or if they're just disgusted with greedy decisions made by others) *sigh* It would be very disappointing if the Witcher 2 project has been spoiled by the greed of others. I mean, just a few months earlier, Marcin was assuring the fanbase that there won't be any DRM or any other controversial features implemented into Witcher 2, and now he's resigned? It's very worrying and suspicious.

This news causes a cardiac arrest for me T_T Thanks Alek for your statement. It's a bit elusive for me that the two founders leave their company just when their own project gets established and accepted by a huge gaming community and public. The Witcher (series?) is a product that proves good games come from Poland as well and it's from CD Projekt.

I wasn't thrilled when I heard this news. Just what it means is unclear though. I want the same team to be working on future games for CD Red, because we already know how talented they are.

I doubt they were part of the actual ToD (were they?) . But their timing in this instance is ominous....
