It's kind of interesting that the real Warner Brothers were of Polish heritage.

Warner Bros localize a lot of cool shit like Berserk.

Hopefully this doesn't end up as another court case like Namco Bandai.

At the end of Angry Joe's interview Konrad from CDPR clearly said "on PC it's gonna be available day 1 100% DRM free on GOG.COM".

I guess they want to play safe and do not promise anything they cannot at the moment.

You'll probably have back up copies from GOG right away, so you can have your DRM free digital version as well.

Wasn’t that offer just for Steam users? Also, that doesn’t really help me when someone decides on day to pop in The Witcher 3 again and isn’t online in that moment.

You can bet your bum, though, that CDPR will be pushing for the Retail version to be released without DRM, and it's really more up to WB than to anyone else whether they'll succeed or not.

Will they though? Last time they seemed pretty happy about using SecuROM, claiming it was all done to prevent it from being cracked before release (what nonsense).

But it does mean that these demands for "no DRM, or we won't buy" are quixotic.

Quixotic, huh? Well, maybe one shouldn’t join hands with a company that betrays one’s ideals just for profits then. What’s next with that attitude? DLC and microtransactions?

They can, but no particular reason for them too.
The ones who should rejoice are actually WB, cause they have some of the best franchises with them with Batman Arkham and The Witcher. Being an avid comic fan I'm hoping they release a graphic novel at the very least sometime in the future! Are you hearing CDP? :D

Well for most of us here distributors will be gog and steam :p

No, it's everything (except those bought from Gog).

They changed their views after the event. Which is why I'm cautiously optimistic still hoping that it will NOT be permitted in whatever contract they have with Warner (and the other regions, when they get annouced).

Edit: OK - I just watched the Angry Joe video, and I agree, the way he said "... on Gog.com" did sound like there may be DRM on the retail version.

I don't understand why it matters even if the retail version does have DRM- people can get the DRM-free game from GOG, should be good enough. Or if you're into having a boxed version for collection, then get the DRM free game to play, and the boxed version later; I don't think anyone will be running out of either of these versions of the game.

Download speeds?
I'll tolerate it having DRM as long as the Gog version is made available again, but there's no guarantee that they'll do that.
It took me two days to download EE from Gog, and that was while I still had DSL. At the moment, it would probably take me around 300 hours to download all of TW2 at home. I could go to a cafe to download, but people in rural areas don't have that option. And the fastest cafe speeds here are still less than 10MB/s

Holy cow D: And I thought I had it bad, I've been downloading Max Payne 3 for six hours now. The only thing you can do with bad download speeds is to have patience, but I agree, it does suck to not have a speedier DRM-free alternative.

Wait, what are you saying, there's no guarantee of there being a GOG version of TW3? I'm probably misunderstanding you, but it has been mentioned time and again that there will be a DRM-free GOG version of TW3; most recent statement regarding this is the Angry Joe interview.

Even if the retail version would have DRM for whatever reason, they simply can release a patch to undo it just like they did with Witcher 2.

Yeah, the game does seem pretty awesome, worth the wait, I guess. I've been wanting to play a nice TPS recently, and it seems this will hit the spot :]

If they are going to use Steamworks or GFWL I doubt it would be easy to remove it

There'll definitely be a Gog version, and it'll be DRM-free - that's been confirmed by CDPR themselves.

When I said about "no guarantee", I was talking about the current deal where you get a free Gog version if you buy the retail one. Sorry about the confusion, I didn't mean to worry anyone.

And in response to

Again, CDPR WON the part of the court case about removing the DRM, the courts said they were entitled to do so.

I have no problem with them sticking temporary DRM on the physical copies like they did with the first two games.

Yes it was! Despite being very linear and short, the story was mind blowing and the technical aspects and graphics were really great too!

Complaining about six hours, I would feel blessed. I took about 5 days (yes, 5 x 24 hours plus some more) to download it. Welcome to India I say *crying laughter*
