CDP last good developer left

It may be a exaggeration but I can't really think of any quality developers left for the PC.Bioware has ruined Dragon Age and now the provably you know what has hit the fan with the Mass Effect 3 farce in relation to the endings. Please I beg you CDP never sell out to EA they are trying to ruin gaming for everyone.

I really wanted to provide a counterexample of another good PC developer, but my mind is totally blank right now O_O I think you're right. CDPR seems to be the only major PC developer left which hasn't pulled any cheap tricks to screw over the PC gamers (even Blizzard has always-online DRM for single-player in StarCraft 2 and I'm not allowed to play online with people in another country).

I can think of only one other: Valve. Yes they make cross-platform games, but they take good care of their PC fanbase.

I would have said Obsidian as well, but they are struggling right now, and their last product was a joke (Dungeon Siege 3).

CDPR means a lot to me as a developer. This is why I buy games from GOG whenever I can (even if I dont intend to play them!), and have purchased their Witcher games multiple times as donations.

Please I beg you CDP never sell out to EA they are trying to ruin gaming for everyone.

Wont ever happen. Remember that CDPR, and its parent company CDP, are privately owned companies. EA can not do a hostile take over by buying out their shares, for example. The owners of the company, Marcin Iwiński and Michał Kiciński, would have to give up the company themselves. Given their passion for games and their current take on the industries heading, can you imagine them signing their own company away? Of course not :).

Our gaming God is here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future.

Well, Eidos/Square Enix did make a pretty good comeback last year, so there's some life in the industry yet.

And I'd agree about Valve. They seem to be the last Big Company that's still producing quality.

CDP is already a sell out. This game took over a year to play the way it should have at launch. I do Enjoy the story and the paths, but gameplay and game testing where not complete. The combat system could have been so much better with more moves and in game finishing moves(like skyrim and being able to jump over players like in witcher 1). The graphics even then could be so much better(fingers crossed for dx 11 patch, and Creation kit, but probably not gonna happpen =/).

To be honest, Valve doesn't make games I'm interested in; Left for Dead, Portal. I'm sure they're fun, but not for me.

Me too, but you have to recognise that they're well-made games that attract fans, which is what counts.

Yeah cdpr and obsidian are the only developers I really look out for, cdpr have just kept adding to the brilliant game that they released (all free of charge.) While obsidians stories and characters are so deep, (even in dungeon siege 3) that you can't fail to be moved by them.

Their approach to dlc is refreshing as well, while cdpr can only be respected for their approach, obsidians large and faultlessly interwoven dlc's for both new vegas and dungeon siege were good value for money and of the highest quality. The fact that obsidians dlc were planned and referenced in the main game rather than carved out of it, also demands respect.

Actually to be honest i think finishing moves are terrible. The only good thing about Dragon Age 2 was removing them they can ruin a good strategy much the same as the ones in Skyrim.I totally agree about a creation kit it would be nice but free DLC is pretty sweet.

I second Valve because they keep dlc free (in TF2) and have a similar philosophy to CDPR. They care about the PC fanbase and know how to keep communities alive. Look at CSS. That game is running with millions of mods and servers still online to this day.

For me, CDPR has made some compromises with the Witcher 2, but in the long run the quality of their games hasn't gone down in the pits.

Not true.

Valve, Piranha Bytes, GSC Game World & 4A Games are great PC devs as well. And there are others too. The devs behind Total War series & Anno, oh and Blizzard of course as well.

gonna have to disagree, knowing what happened to creative assemblies, valve, blizzard, etc, and the strife within those communities as a result.

refusing to own up to repeated false promises and finally taking up the trend of withholding content and selling it back as dlc. those companies are terrible.

valve is particularly skilled at pretending to care about fans, but their track record says otherwise. the game they have free dlcs for is a cartoon. 'nuff said.

i'm gonna be bold and say none of the major american companies are any good.

Relic used to be good as well. They have fanatical fanbase and Relic listens to their fans, but they and THQ did a lot of questionable things (to put it mildly) in 2011 . So yeah CDPR it is.

Well, actually CDPR is listed on Warsaw Stock Exchange with Marcin Iwiński and Michał Kiciński owning a total of 33,77% of CDPR's stocks

Sometimes owners sell all other stocks except the control package. It doesn't need to be 51% to have a say in what goes :)

Anyway, corporate interests and bigger market share will probably destroy my hobby in the near future. I'm dissapointed with almost every developer I used to love in the past. In short:

Blizzard - long development cycle, drm restrictions, little outdated feeling from their latest games /SCII, Diablo III/

Valve - lost me as a customer with postponing or even canceling HL2:EP3, which was the franchise that put them at the top. Decisions of making casual multiplayer shooters and puzzle games.

Relic - questionable design decisions in their recent games. If they listen to the public, they should make asap COH2. Current players of COH equal the number of players of their last 2 Warhammer games. They are a hit and miss, listening to fan feedback.

Bioware - do I even need to go there?

Obsidian - currently struggling after a few failed projects.

Monolith - maybe some internal problems, maybe pressure from the publishers, but this studio went down fast and aren't even close to what they once were.

Piranha Bytes - making the same mistakes over and over. That's the feeling I get after trying out Risen 2 Beta.
-------------------------------------------

There are still great game developers. I was recently surprised by Remedy and Frictional Games and the way they interact with the community. Also so far I'm pleased with Rockstar's products, hoping Max Payne 3 will be as good as the previous games.

Yeah, they have the control package so far. But they're not a private company any more, just wanted to clarify that :)

Private or not, they still hold full control, so EA cant buy them out without Marcin Iwiński and Michał Kiciński agreeing, which they wont given their current stance. That's the important thing :p.

Thanks for the clarification though :).

Well, of course they won't, they don't want us to grab our pitchforks and torches, do they?
