CDPR: Remaking of The Witcher 1

Yes, remaking the Witcher 1 :)/>/>/>/>

I have been thinking about it. It takes a two years or such to create the Witcher 3 game with all the Next-Gen amazing graphics and with the Witcher 3's open world that is bigger than the W1 & W2 combined, it is an impressive short amount of time.

The CDPR team is now more in numbers and more experienced. Why don't they remake the Witcher 1 with RedEngine 3???

REALLY!!

- It has a smaller world.
- The dialogues, the characters the plot..etc... Are all ready!!

I think that remaking the Witcher 1 will take very little time compared to The Witcher 3 and it will be easy. All they will have to replace - aside from changing the graphics- is the stupid sex cards and maybe change the combat system because I think it is quite boring at some times.

I would definitely buy it!! Would you??

This has been discussed like at least 87 times already. My personal opinion is this - let a classic stay a classic.

By the way, where did you get that "It takes a year or such to create the Witcher 3 game" thing? Any sources for this?

They started working on both The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 after The Enhanced Edition of the first game. So they've been working on it for 5 years..

I'm gonna say no. Just because I'd rather have CDPR focusing solely on new projects. Like gregski said, let a classic stay a classic and move on to new stuff.

I don't agree. I think it would be a large and uneconomic effort to remake TW1 on a different engine. None of the resources will be compatible. The artwork and the music are not to modern standard and would have to be reworked. None of the scripting will be compatible. It would take several man-years of effort and close to a year of time. All that for a game that is six years old and sells at remainder prices.

Maybe this is something that an enthusiast with a lot of time and no need to make a profit would do. It would be improvident and foolish for a company with more profitable uses for their capital.

While playing witcher 2, I really enjoyed the idea of having witcher 1 with that combat system, but like others said, original is good enough. So good, it's one of the best games out there.

But I'd buy it. I thought that maybe those two games made by their new smaller studios could be witcher 1 and 2 for next gen consoles, but it certainly would not be described as smaller AA games with 20 hours of gameplay. But the Rise of the white wolf is still somewhere on their harddisks after all. I think many console players would buy it for a cheaper price with the Witcher 3 and it could bring them nice profit. They seem to know what they're doing so if it would be good for them and they'll have resources for that, I think that it will happen someday. Otherwise there is no reason for them to do that.

And NO! Removing the sex cards or anything else from the original would not be a good idea. Not those sex cards which I loved to gather. Like pokemons, you know.:)

What do you mean it takes a year or a year and a half to make a game like the Witcher 3 ? :p/>/>/>/>/>

Error 404: Logic not found.

But still .... If CDPR decided to do that -which I highly doubt- ... I would definitely buy the living hell out of the remake :p/>/>/>

Yea, Yea I get it I'm wrong at how much time the Witcher 3 takes :p/> , but still the Witcher 1 remaking would take little time, but if it would effectively distract CDPR from other projects then I agree on not remaking it :)/>

I would say - download the RedKit and try to create just one simple, tiny quest from original Witcher. Maybe then you will find the answer on your question)

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-11-06-seeing-red-the-story-of-cd-projekt

"After the Enhanced Edition of Witcher 1 (offered as a free patch for existing owners, as with The Witcher 2), work started on two projects at once: The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3."

Of course during the financial troubles they focused all their attention to The Witcher 2 (at least according to the article), but the point remains that TW3 has been under development for several years.

You do realise that except for audio (maybe), everything would be made from scratch? That doesn't take "little time". It would be just like making a new game.

No, why would CDRED spend that time and source when they can spend that on improving even more witcher 3 ?
Even make a remake of this game would take years of hard work

I always wonder why they never remade very successful games like Final Fantasy 7,MGS, Soul Reaver, System Shock or even original Deus Ex. Hmm.

And how many games were actually remade with newer engine? Hmm..

Don't waste your time..

TW1 is fine as is, do not touch.

With added content, remade voice overs to the standards of TW2, updated graphics but with old style interface and old alchemy (a must) I would have no doubts of buying it. I liked TW1 better than TW2 overall anyway. But I would like them to finish TW3 first.

Actually it would be even better to make 3-in-1 game as one game with all choices and consequences and character interactions taken into an account... but I know that's won't going to happen, unfortunately.

Not really, if someone is willing to make a mod, then it would be cool.
But CDP has other things to focus on, like The Witcher 3 for example. :p

Ugh another one of these threads...

What's with some people and shiny pixels.

gregski put it very nicely: "Let a classic stay a classic". Not everything has to me remade these fucking days. I'd rather have RED focus 100% on new games. Please stop making these threads. This is a stupid and selfish request on your behalf. The Witcher exists. It's playable. It's amazing in its own right. It needs no remake. It'd be redundant.

EDIT: UUUUUUUUUUUUGH...

Just saw the poll, let me just add that NO. I would not buy a remake. Because I don't want to support that and show developers that pixels and antialiasing etc matters at all. I don't care. I would NOT buy it.

I think it's better to put all the time and ressources into a new game,
rather than heating up old content.

...especially if the old content doesn't have Ciri in them. :p
