CDPR wouldn't have got much less heat if...

+
If they hadn't promised so much, they would've much less to walk back from. If they had just told us the release date but not so much about in the game (PS4/5 compatibility, wall-running, purchaseable homes, etc.), they would have got much less heat for breaking promises. Conversely, if they had told us the game's features but not the release date until they were sure of a release, they would've also avoided a lot of heat for a premature release. So either you tell customers what's in the product but not when it's released, or you tell them when it comes out but not what's in it. That's what Apple has always done, and Apple has never had a release as botched as this. E.g. We knew when the new iPhone would come out, but we were never told what was in it. The more you tell customers, the more you potentially have to retract. I hope CDPR learns from this.

Honestly have a feeling most of the things promised will make it into the multiplayer. Like purchasings. All those locked doors in sp will probably be the properties🤷‍♂️

They would have gotten one hell of alot less bad rep if they had just been open an honest with everyone. They had those Night City Wire's and yet never once thought it was important to tell people how much the game had changed direction, how much was cut, and how unfinished it was. instead they continued to hype up the deep RPG mechanics, the meaningful world interaction and make out you can do far more than you actually can.

thats why they are getting so much flak

They literally marketed the game as an RPG for years and then randomly changed it to an "action adventure game" like wtf

I think decent option would have been to just delay the previous gen version, release the PC version and fess up that it wasnt ready on last Gen, they wanted to make sure performance was up to par on the last gen and were struggling to get it to work right now. I know it was delayed several times already but now they are trying to patch performance to make it more reasonable and will take months.

Or... or, hear me out... if they... instead of marketing features they endet up stripping from the game... they had instand taken all that marketing money and put it into development and... hear me out... then they could have just not tried (and failed) to make their "vision" (if such a thing even ever existed) work on hardware that was already underpowered/obsolete at the time of its release and instead focused on perfecting the game for PC and next-gen? And what if... they instead of fumbling und bumbling for 4 or 5 years in development hell they would have actually managed to work steadily and efficiently towards the vision they lied to us about? Man what an awesome timeline...

It's called managing expectations. However, CDPR is too full of themselves and drunk on their own coolaid to do something sensible like that.

Seriously, though. The state of it right now feels like they had to rebuild everything from scratch several times, because of features that had to be removed in the first place, for time. It's a bit ironic.

There are good and bad things about doing it this way. Apple is a huge company working in an industry where the products are fairly well understood. Meaning they release a new phone, people know what a phone is, what functionality to expect, maybe there are some new ones etc. But no one expect Apple to launch Iphone 12 and say that it can do your dishes as well :)

Its slightly different with a game, because despite everyone knowing what a game is, people don't get excited by it simply being one, they get excited if the game is about something they like or in a particular genre, and if it gives you new functionality within this.
So to make people interested or hyped you need to show them stuff.

And I don't think that CP would have been received as bad, if it have had at least 80-90% of the content as they said they would, but still having the same amount of bugs.
People would be annoyed, because bugs always are, but they are also to be expected. The problem is that what CDPR showed to create this hyped was not even close to what they released in regards to functionality, people expect graphical changes, audio etc. And will comment on it, if it have changed to much, but for the most part its not that huge of an issue.
But when the functionality and genre of the game pretty much changes, that is a huge issue, because no one can guess or even imagine that, when all you are told is that it is this type of game.

Yeah. If the last gen consoles didn't launch the way they did. And they didn't hype up all their stuff. Like with the character creator. And saying it was a basic chacter builder. Don't expect much. I wouldn't have been severely dispointed. People wouldn't be so harsh on the bug aspects of the game etc. If majority of their promises where met, or never talked about to begin with.

Last gen console, should simply have been moved to a later date. But what can you do when Christmas is here? :D

Last gen console, should simply have been dropped, period.

Or, they should have at the very least, gone PS4 Pro exclusive, some titles clearly do not run well on base systems but acceptable on PS4 Pro's, an example being 'Shadow Of The Colossus'.

If they can't make it run on them, no doubt that they should have been dropped. But let's see if they can get it to run decent enough, so people will accept it.

This is still general acceptance, i think games having to run at 30FPS with 4k isn't acceptable on consoles of any current gen, let alone next gen, but if they do solid 30FPS at least many monitors and TV's can work with your eyes enough the eye burn isn't so bad. All should be 60 bare min targets, though, that still hasn't even caught up alone..

Makes me only want to stay with PC and just get the next gen RTX..

In the early days of iPhones and iPads when people didn't know what to expect, Apple also withheld info about these products until the reveal date. And if CP2077 were to have 80-90% of the content as promised, then CDPJ should've withheld the release date and let development go on longer. So my original points stand: it's better to reveal what's in the product and not the release date, or reveal the release date but not so much about the product. The less you reveal, the less you potentially have to retract.

IMHO the negativity around this game is mostly related to old console performances and bugs, but things are slowly changing, at least on XBOX. Just look at user reviews sorted by date. At launch most reviews were 0/10, this week most review are 8,9 or 10/10.

When the game will release on PS5 and Series X will have a much better reception, considering it will be one of the very few next gen titles out there.

Haha, hell no. The consoles launching in this state is only a fraction of what was lost here. The level of trust, the respect, and any level of belief in this company as a supporter of art was just destroyed.

Tons has to be done to even begin to bring back a modicum of trust, which is not being helped by how their PR is handling any of this.

The previous gen is the reason they couldn't delay, there was no where to delay it too, Dec 2020 is pretty much the last big period in which you can launch the game on the previous gen consoles because it's the last holiday season that these consoles are still somewhat relevant.

A 1-2 months delay wouldn't have changed much this game realistically needed another year or so in development to flesh out all the systems so you won't have to have a placeholder / filler for every part of the game that isn't the main story.

That would be essentially unacceptable neither to the players that pre-ordered the game nor to the shareholders (who aren't happy now either).

The performance and bugs are also not the reason why people are so disappointed with this game, TW3 was buggy as fuck too. That can be fixed, what isn't as easily fixed is the fact that every core system broken.

This game deserves 5/10 regardless of bugs.
Combat system - broken and feels like a placeholder
Crafting - Broken
Customization - what customization?
Perks - Broken and boring

The game looks phenomenal (on the PC at least) and the main story and dialog is good despite the fact that it still feels rushed and has pacing issues and some holes.
However everything else in the game is just shallow and incomplete.

Agreed, they need another year or two to really flesh this world out for that story & these characters.

And now we’ve come back to the “suddenly, on Dec 10, 2020, the PS4 is absolute garbage and can’t run any games at all” argument.

The game could run Ghost of Tsushima and FF7R pretty damned well, and those games were released this year.

Nothing changed in terms of how games were made, and the next gen consoles literally came out maybe a month or two before the game released.

Calling it “not compatible” is pretty disingenuous.
