Censorship, Classification and different versions for different countries.

Okay so being my first post, after looking all over the internet, this site included, i cant seem to find a definitive answer on the issue of censorship. We have all seen that The Witcher 2 will have up front nudity (breasts and asses fully exposed, violent limb chopping combat and swearing. I have no problem with it, in my opinion it adds to the believability and maturity of a game. Too many times have great games been censored to care bear the masses. Getting to the point. I'm from Australia, everyone knows how stupid our game laws are, and I've pr-ordered the Premium Edition on steam. But i never stopped to think that it might be censored of the blood and nudity (Australian classification board doesn't seem to care about swearing oddly enough) So im wondering if someone on here, perhaps a mod or a dev (if they are present on this board) can answer thus:Will every country get the same mature version of the game that we have seen in dev videos, screen-shots and trailers? Or will it be like The Witcher 1, where Europe got the mature version and America/Australia got the care bear version? (that is until the directors cut came along)Please help out a fan with this? I would like to know if im going to have to import an uncensored version. Also, glad to be here =D can't wait for TW2!

People have asked this Question before and still no answer. There isn't an answer yet because in the process of publishing a game sending to rating board is one of the last steps.

It is exaclty like this.CDP does not know if and in which country the game will be censored or not. This issue is up to a country's laws but as far as we experienced it is possible that in the game will receive the same treatment of TW1. Anyway, to have a better clarification about the thing, just ask directly to the Devs in this thread.

Well, look at it this way, the US, being a country that's absolutely horrified of the human body and all other types of sexual concepts, are going to do everything and anything possible to butcher every mature part of this game so all that's left is a game with a story that has huge gaps in it. Your probably not going to want to get it off of Steam because Steam's based in the US. Your best bet for the uncensored game would be gog.com or some other European vendor.

I too am from Australia and am concerned about the possible censorship of this - that is the reason I am yet to preorder from Steam (where I get all my games). If you really must preorder now, the get it from GOG.com, cause I have read that they will sell the complete game, should anyone else choose to censor it.

Thanks for the replies guys, hopefully steam gets the fully 18+ version. I'll have to check back here closer to release :)

I still wonder why ppl prefer Steam to GOG? GOG is a sister co. of CDProjekt, it would be natural for me to buy off of GOG. Plus, tons of additional stuff, no DRM whatsoever, full and uncensored version of the game (I think AU law is unaplicable here right?).So why bother with Steam?Just saying.I prefer to have physical copy of every game I own :) Call me simple minded centro-eastern gamer :D

Steam has been around longer, and if you've been using them for a while, there is incentive to keep using them for that reason alone; keeps all your stuff in one place. Also, while I do realize that it's technically a form of copy protection in games that use Steamworks, the extra features Steam offers like achievements, auto patching, chat, the overlay/in-game web browser, cloud saving, and new screencap library add a lot of functionality which gog lacks simply because it doesn't have a client. I got fed up with having to go to websites to get games when I redid my system or whatever, have to remember which site all your games came from, hope you have all the keys and passwords saved. I've lost access to games because of this. I just discovered that because I upgraded my computer, I can't get Peggle to run (thankfully, I only paid a dollar for it. PopCap had a sale). I had to re-buy Evil Genius (on Steam this time) for the same reason. Steam, install it, log in, and you're good to go, your saved games and settings are even preserved if it uses Steam Cloud.I know there is a risk to go along with the convenience of having all your games in one place, I used to use RealArcade (now Gamehouse), and that didn't work out so well lost my Geneforge games because of that... but I trust Valve, they've proven themselves to be good people. And they're successful enough that it would take something catastrophic for them to go under. That being said, I did order via gog.com because i wanted to support CDProjekt fully, and I wanted the artbook and free game. Also, I am an old school Adventure game junkie, so I was probably going to end up there sooner or later to get my Space Quest fix. It is availablle on Steam, but I know perfectly well how buggy it can be on modern systems, with gog, I at least know some of those bugs have been ironed out. Just saying, once you use Steam, you tend to want to keep using it.

Not only has Steam been around for a long time as Raye Gunn pointed out there are ppl that are comfortable with using Steam just like I'm comfortable in buying the box copy it comes down to human nature *winks*

Atleast I don't have to worry because we don't get censored editions(small market) and local stores always import uncensored english versions of the game.
