I'm curious as to WHO censored the game. Was it the developer, publisher, or the ESRB? Theres been nudity in other games but that don't mean it would get an AO rating in the US. The game is already rated M so its not like they did it to try and get a Teen rating. I don't really see why there was censoring when its really not much to censor. I will never knowingly purchase a censored game no matter what they removed, its the principle. I don't support censorship and never will. I'm an adult and I don't need to be told what I can and cannot see. I wish the game companies would at least provide full uncensored and uncut games for their digital distribution. They could at least put in whatever they want and not have to worry about the ESRB and getting the dreaded AO rating that stores have a policy about not selling. If enough games start to do this the stores will have to change policy or start to lose sales.

As an adult American gamer... it frustrates me that we can't get the uncensored version here in the States... not because i really need to see the content, but simply because the choice was taken from me. If I were standing in the store and had both of them sitting in front of me, I would be just as likely to pick the censored version as the uncensored one, as there are little ones running around the house. This doesn't mean I don't resent the choice being taken from me.

Let's see if any polish user could confirm this (may be spoiler, beware):Geralt have sex with Triss, the scene is very blurred and she gives me a card, the card you can see in the art book. Is the same in the polish release?.

And this?
There is a monster called a "bruxa" in-game (possible spoilers!) that takes the form of a vampirish woman. She is undressed and drenched in blood of her victims. Now, for the American narket, the in-game model was made to be drenched in blood, but conceal the titties. For the German market, they made one with titties exposed, but the blood removed. Finally, the Polish version has a bruxa with both blood and exposed titties.Nuff' said.

In Polish version there are words like 'fuck off', 'bitch', 'whore' etc. so I believe it's not censored.

For those who dont know, uk.atari.com has it for digital download for a bit higher price and it's the uncensored version, I was stupid and rushed out to get the US version only to be annoyed when I found some of the finishing moves I had seen in videos had been removed, along with the other "n-Bits" but anyway, I just payed the $72 to download it, so now I'll have both. weee. Maybe I can seell ym US version to one of my mates.. hope so anyway.

I had bought the US version, not knowing it was censored. I quit playing it because of that, and going to get the european one in a while... but... I don't understand what's so censored about it... I mean, yeah, they covered up nipples, wow... but what about the cursing? I've heard plenty of "fucks, shits, bitches, and whores" in the so-called censored version. What kind of hypocrisy is this?

I'm still in the process of downloading the patch for the game, so I havent even started playing yet. But before I do I'm guessing that since I'm in Canada and I got the game at Wal-mart, I got the censored version? what a load of crap! They even asked for my ID when I paid for the game WITH CASH, because of parents bitching about ESRB rating not being enforced. I'm 20, and played games like this since I was a lot younger (er, just don't tell my partents ::) ) but I can understand the difference between reality and a video game. It's not like I'm going to go out and do something illegal because I played a violent video game... and why would I be offended at something thats no worse than what you watch on cable TV or on a movie?

FFS people,Niether the American government nor the ESRB censor anything. The ESRB issue their rating, and certain politicians publicly decry the content, the end.If said rating is percieved to be potentially fiancially burdensome than the publisher or whomever might reduce the offending material to attain a lower rating. AO games are not carried by the big dogs in terms of places of purchase, so a Mature rating is as far as most publishers are willing to go.

What are the odds that us adult North American players will receive an uncensored patch? I already purchased the it (in Canada) and cannot afford to buy it twice, however I would like to see all its original content.

I agree. I feel like I'm a pervert or something for really wishing for a way to play the uncensored version of the game without having to purchase a whole other copy, but I really feel like there should be an optional patch or such to download.

Yep, Mature and AO games require ID to buy. First time my EB actually asked me for ID, and I'm a few decades past childhood. :)And don't worry, sd1612; the whole rating system is twisted in North America. Only to the ESRB is nudity and sex worse than violence. People only have to think about that for a moment to understand just how silly it is.

Because it's harder for the media to advocate and destroy the standing of video-games if they were pro-sexua (I.E, meaning something like nudity was commonplace and meant to be in it (An example, God of War's nudity as composed to the modification and left-over coding of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' Hot Coffee Mod). C'mon, American media loves death, carnage and misery over teen/young adult and such conception of a child. As it seems to be more of a statistic (and if they didn't produce, like ten children, not worth mentioning on the news). Just my opinion anyway. But as the Dev team is making a SDK mod kit for the game, it won't be that long, someone can simply just upload the UK version of textures, models and the .bik files, you insert them into your US game. Problem solved; if you want to see breasts that bad that is.From the aspects of violence, I don't believe any actual combat scenes are censored, it's just "No, you cannot take your shirt off, lady... and if you must, put your hair in front of those devilish wiggling spheres."

I found this on another message board. These are the uncensored videos after your "conquests". But the previous poster is correct: we may need to wait for the SDK to be released to get things like the Dryads, Tarot card images in your Journal, language(?), and finishing moves(?) of the International version.http://ikuu.shackspace.com/Data.rarYou'll need a FileShack account to download, but these are the uncensored cards you get after sleeping around. Not tested it, but I don't see any reason for them not to work. Here's an example of the difference (NSFW): http://www.shacknews.com/screenshots.x?gallery=8544&id=108103

All I can say is simply this. Be patient. As for the language and finishing moves, from what I've heard from a friend who has the UK version, nothing is really different in that, so far only the nudity has been taken out of the game in some retrospect. As for the language, the English script is well, how it is. You'll need another language to have the more detailed dialog. Or perhaps the Devs would release an adult patch for their game too. I've seen Sierra do it with their Leisure Suit Larry games. So what is stopping them from doing it for The Witcher?Oh well, the US version will be uncensored in time. ^.^ Be it by the Devs or by Fans alike. So calm down, you'll see your breasts one way or another. *smirks*

I could care less for what was cut from the game. It's the practical issue that it was censored at all, (specifically censored for the US market to boot) that prompted me to buy the UK version. I know that some misguided individuals think that our government or the ESRB are in the buisness of censoring games, but the fact of the matter is it is a publisher/developer's decision. I understand that they have a bottom line to worry about, but I won't buy neutered versions of games.

I don't know....I have the US version and in the starting castle when you opt to get it on with the red haired girl after healing her....there is a sex scene that is covered with a Card with her picture on it in a very suggestive pose. Beaver Cleaver is front and center but is strategicly blocked by a big black pussycat. Now i don't know whats worse, seeing the beaver or having a black pussycat sitting there telegraphing the message that the Girl is not a true red head.I wonder if that was the developers way of saying screw you to the censors or me just reading more into the composition than was intended.

I'm almost certain that particular card is the same on both the uncensored and censored versions. Funny bit of innuendo regardless.

I think, too, that people have to remember that, while it's a publisher decision, they do so because ratings boards have a gun, so to speak, to their heads. If the ESRB says "the content as described for this game equates to an AO rating", then expect that some major retailers won't be carrying their game. Sure, it's a choice, but not much of one when you consider the consequences. So, perhaps it's the retailers that need to change the way they sell games so that the ESRB rating is only for informational purposes and we adults can make our own decisions. Of course, retailers have always been free to sell or not sell what they wish....

Ok, precisely what was censored in the US version? If it was just the cards you get after your "conquest" quests, you guys are overreacting. If it was just some finishing moves that do nothing to affect gameplay, you guys are overreacting. If it was some swear words that don't add to the plot or game itself, you guys are overreacting. If it was whole quests, plot points. or even minigames that happened to be filled with sexual content, you guys are underreacting. In three pages of posts, however, I have not read one person reply as to what exactly was censored.
