I can't speak for non-steam users, but I imagine the issue I'm facing potentially can affect any cloud-based save game service. I'm talking about the way these services overwrite the Saved Games folder. It's pretty standard for something like that to occur with most cloud services, but usually it's not much of an issue with other files like pictures or word docs because they usually wind up as duplicates or (this is the kicker) the naming conventions are diverse enough to avoid direct rewrites in most cases.
The naming convention of Cyberpunk 2077 for save games is more then problematic, it plain sucks. It leads to a user needing to be constantly vigilant, constantly backing up, and sticking with one method (cloud or no cloud) and they shall rue the day they accidentally change methods or forget to backup, etc. My main point here is that if one loses save games because of a cloud rewrite, surely it's their own mistake and I am not immune to that fact, however, if saves between characters weren't named EXACTLY THE SAME, the possibility of a cloud overwrite would be extremely lessened and, if players could provide their own text to name saves (something the majority of other games allow) smart players would form their own naming conventions and COMPLETELY avoid cloud rewrites.
This is a simple question of percentages and I haven't the first clue why CDPR landed on the wrong side of them with these saves. Without user input to make saves unique there's at least a 5% chance they could experience a cloud overwrite at some point and that 5% can only get higher the more saves and the more characters they wish to use. However, if we could make each save have a unique name, there could be 0% chance of having any issues from the cloud's behavior.
This is my cry to the devs to fix this oversight. At the very least we need a way to differentiate save files between characters. It's excruciating to have a ~50 hour playthrough wiped out with no recovery options because of a cloud overwrite and while I don't pretend to have a loud enough voice to change cloud behaviors since they're pretty well set in stone, I may yet be able to bend the ear of the devs of a single game that are actively working on it, so please CDPR...Fix this!
