Chapter 2 Multiple Quests broken *SPOILERS*

*BIG SPOILERS DON'T READ UNLESS YOU ARE A DEV, MOD OR COMPLETED THE GAME!!!*

Hi all, As the topic title suggests, while playing in Dark Mode difficulty, if you take the path of avoiding (or in my case forgetting) to visit Manfred, the father worried over his son battling against "the butcher of Cidoris" in the tourney, a few minor glitches happen. I found Odrin and brought him for a drink with his friends, and he gave me a square coin and the pass phrase to clear out the plotters.

When I killed these plotters, this is when I believe I failed "the butcher of Cidoris" quest, which in turn broke any attempt of entering knight tournaments, but the tourney quest remained on the notice board, if I accepted it, there was no quest obtained. Hilarity ensues with the bug as it seems the soldiers who have a tourney fight regularly in the pit are now battling outside the pit near Proximo (tourney/contract guy). Hard to have a conversation with the scoia'tael when these two lads start ripping lumps out of each other blocking my view.

Also "the butcher of Cidoris" remained in my quest list, as something I still had to do, and in fact had not failed? Unusual I know, and to add to the confusion if I approached Manfred, I could not engage in conversation either. His son has disappeared and is no longer waving his sword around just outside the canteen. The quests log also suggests he told me everything despite his son dying, this couldn't of happened as I was killing off plotters at the time.

EDIT: Currently playing on 3.4 patch.

So what has happened is that there's a quest frame during which Manfred's son can be saved, and beyond that he dies by default, that's why he disappeared.

If you kill the plotters, which is a very finalizing quest, some quest fates are sealed in stone because of the overlapping parts that NPCs have in several quests.

For example, the plotter NPCs are involved in the Butcher quest and the Tourney quest. That's why it's a good idea, if you're a completionist, to do the plotter quest after various quests, in which camp NPCs are involved, are completed.

Otherwise, you can proceed with the game as normal because it's not like the story has gone wrong because you got a bad result. What matters is if you think the result is desirable or not, and if not, you can reload and try again =)

In witcher quests, there's no right answer, but imo, it's a good idea to save as many lives as possible because it increases the possibilities in the storylines.

The elf not talking to you might be a glitch, though. Feel free to ask more questions for clarification.

Some quests that award you a square coins, are pre-reqs for advancing a quest about the plotters. Only one of them is required, in order to obtain the info where to find plotters. If you go there right away, the rest of the quests fail.
If you did not help enough soldiers, the ones guarding the elf will not allow you to talk to him. It is not a bug.

The same system is on Iorweth path. If you advance a story too much, and Iorweth with his people leave Vergen, you automatically fail succubus quest, for example. In essence, if you follow the main quest, you may fail a lot of side quests, in Flotsam, Pontar Valley, and Loc Muinne as well. So yes, quests in TW2 may fail, and it is not a bug. It is a design decision.
